Hats off to Markese Stepp...that dude is a load. 30-27. Onside kick coming up, if we recover it's game over.
Irish Win..it was a tough win, that last drive was the key. That kid Slovis is an excellent QB, and he's got a lot of great targets. I love the way that USC back Stepp runs. He was once a ND verbal but reportedly due to academic issues they had to pass on him. He'd sure look good in Blue and Gold. Great game by the Irish OL and running backs. That was the difference in the game tonight
Rivalry week, calamity week, kid playing against his home state favorite that turned him away, aaaand we still get the W. I'll take it.
300+ yards rushing and we lose this one if not for a redshirt kicker who breaks his own personal record twice. This is the third time this year that Book was not the best QB on the field and tonight he was schooled by a backup freshman. Something is not the same with him this year as we have no vertical passing game to speak of. All week long the Irish press told us that the biggest advantages the Irish had over USC going in were our DL over their OL and Kelly's huge strategic coaching advantage over Helton. Neither of these materialized. I got the feeling that Kelly went conservative with a 20-3 lead early in Q3 and it came down to an onside kick as a result. Helton was the best coach last night and almost pulled off a huge upset.
On 4th and 5 I'd have rather they pooch punted and made USC go the length of the field if we got a good kick out inside the 5. Besides the win, though the Irish picked up two highly rated WR's for 2021. Lorenzo Styles from Ohio who is 102 in the 247/composite and Deion Colzie from Georgia who is 51 in the 247 composite. Also had a good visit with potential grad transfer from Ohio State...Isaiah Pryor a Safety prospect. There were a ton of recruits at the game, mostly 2021 and 2022 kids as we are pretty much done with 2020. Most of the stories I've read of course are very positive but then I can't remember when I read a recruit said ...nah it was just another game, campus was just ok, see yah. They all usually praise the heck out of every place they go.
As far as Kelly being on the field he said he was trying to get a TO called or get the team to move...he said both the team and the refs ignored him. It should have been a penalty but it just would have meant a do over for USC. I don't know that I've ever seen a coach called for that very often, if they did Pete Carroll would have been called multiple times a game.
Terry, I don't think it had any effect on the game but I have seldom seen a coach that far out in the field, that close to the play being run. It should have been a penalty though. He was not trying to call a timeout. Did he really say he was trying to call a time out?
He said that in the Sunday press conference. I have the game taped and I can't tell what he's trying to do, he could have been trying for TO or signaling the players or both. I couldn't tell from the TV feed. But no matter he should have been penalized.
I'm cool with him getting the penalty if they start penalizing everyone who does it. Until then, meh.
Y'all are a trip☺ it didn't have anything to do with the outcome of the game but it was unusual for a coach to be out on the field right when and where the play was possibly going to take place.
Irish pickup a pair of new members that joined the 2021 class, wide receivers Deion Colzie and Lorenzo Styles Jr. announced verbal commitments to the Irish over the weekend. Both highly rated.
The 2021 Class is shaping up nicely sor far. There are 7 commits all 4 stars. 5 are in the top 100 national rankings, 1 is at 102 and the other 206. Not bad, not bad at all.
The win over usc may not have been pretty unless you like the run game but as I said any win over usc is a good win as far as I'm concerned. Next up our old friends um, I think we can take this team on their own field. The Penn St. game should tell us a little more.
