I'm sure the local kids will have a lot to talk about. It was E. St. Brown from Servite HS who blocked the kick. Redfield got an interception and Captain Joe Schmidt from Mater Dei got another victory... Compare that to the players that ND recruited, but who chose USC: Adoree Jackson, Ju Ju Smith etc. I wonder what they will talk about?
All reports are the recruits had a great time, many impressed parents as well. But no verbals. Khalid Kareem and Daelin Hayes both supposedly had great visits but want to keep taking their visits.
BTW Temple is ranked 22 in the AP and 24 in the Coaches polls...and likely to stay that way, they play ECU next weekend. Joel would be proud that ND is playing another Top ranked team!
JO'Co, I'm hearing that Mater Dei has a Freshman QB that is outstanding...already a star and will be a highly recruited kid ...What's the local word on him?
  re: Mater Dei frosh QB J.T. Wow that kid really is good. Isn't his coach Bruce Rollinson a USC shill? So might be hard to get him out of So.Cal. But I hope we're in there giving it the good old college try.
From the reports I'm reading it looks like the Irish had a very good recruiting weekend even if nobody gave their verbal. Lot's of the kids they really want had excellent time and their parents really liked ND and it's atmosphere. If we finish strong this year, and there really is no reason not to finish strong and essentially have the Stanford/ND game on Thanksgiving Weekend be a play in game for both teams with regards to the Playoffs.
It was a perfect night on national TV against a big opponent who we beat. What's not to like? We know we are going to a bowl for sure. It's just a question if we play it in 2015 or 2016. 8)
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> and we looooooved it!!! <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E>8)</E></r>
  re: Bruce Rollinson Yes. He's a USC shill, but he's also the best high school coach in this state and I hear he's a great history teacher. It's true that he attempts to steer every great player to the Trojans, but when that fails, he opens the gates to everybody else. In the case of Joe Schmidt, he contacted Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA and everyone he respected to sell the kid. He's as honest as a former USC player can be...

ND <t>JO'Co,<br/> <br/> great pic and video of the PICK!<br/> <br/> I watched the Showtime episode last night. Schmidt had a big group of family and friends come in from Caly for the game, many were sc fans. I know we have issues about his play this year but you got to love his attitude about USC...he hates them!!! He really wanted this game. If you remember, Schmidt was the player who sealed the win two years ago for us with his play and the end.</t>
That pic was really such a beautiful play...and an important one as well. I still root for Joe, I know he's getting a lot of criticism and a lot of people want to see his backups who are definitely more physically talented. But Joe is such a great leader and you can tell he burns to win. Sometimes you just need somebody like that. That said I hope in the 2nd half of the season we find ourselves in a position where Morgan can get a lot more snaps and start getting him ready to play as a starter next year.
ND <r>How's this little exhortation offered by Joe Schmidt to his defensive teammates from the ND sideline at the beginning of the ND comeback in the second half:<br/> <br/> <B><s></s>"We got 10 minutes and 45 seconds for the rest of our lives, we're remembering this game forever, we're takin it from them right now!! We gotta take it, it's ours to take!!!"<e></e></B><br/> <br/> You gotta love the kid for that kind of spirit!</r>
I watched the most recent edition of Showtime. It was another good episode, there was a segment on Corey Robinson, he really came off as a very intelligent and thoughtful young man. I don't think he'll be an NFL player but he will make his mark in life. Also a good moment of Kelly talking to Russell on the sidelines after Jackson beat him on the long pass in the 1st drive. Russell never looked for the ball and that is apparent on the replay. Kelly told him flat out, you better start looking for the ball or you're not going to play. That Int that he had in the 4th qtr was a direct result of him looking for the ball. As always Joe Schmidt had a segment. Dinner with his mom and Dru Tranquil. Joe is really intense, seeing him yell on the sidelines made me wonder if he'd jumped the Shark so to speak with that particular thing and maybe his teammates were tuning him out. But that dinner segment with Tranquil, Dru said he couldn't wait to hear Joe yell at them. Also I watched a segment on Irish Illustrated where Tim Priester took fans to task for being overly critical of Joe's tackling. He said that when Joe misses a tackles fans triple it and talk about him missing 3 tackles. He went on to outline all the positive things that Joe did in the USC game that were critical but nobody wants to talk about. I like Joe a lot and I hope he can have a great finish to the season. I also hope that with the next 4 opponents that the Irish have opportunities to rest Joe and give some of the young LB's time on the field... Nyles Morgan, Greer Martini, Tevon Coney aren't going to magically get better with the BVG defense by sitting on the bench or playing special team.
I'm just basing my critique on what I see week after week. We are soft up the middle. Schmidt tends to over run a lot of plays. Now for all I know he is clearly the best we have at MLB. If that is the case, leave him in there. But I seem to remember Morgan last year getting thrown into the fire when he was clearly not ready and getting better and better each game. By the LSU game he was pretty damn good. The quote of Max Redfield haunts me; he said that learning Mandarin Chinese was easier than learning Uncle Rico's defense. Well that may be the reason Schmidt is getting all the minutes, with his "coach on the field" rep.
ND <t>I know this should go under a ND vs Temple topic but I watched the Temple/ECU game this evening. Neither of these two teams are good. ECU had more turnovers or they would have won. Temples' receivers were particularly bad. Never so many dropped balls.</t>
Stanford is a critical game for ND.... Irish fans need to hope they keep winning. It's the substitute for a conference title game that the Irish may desperately need in trying to impress the playoff committee at selection time.
