OK Aaron Lynch decmits from ND, what is his reason? This is his reason, word for word from his Mom. So you think it's that he thinks ND is not good enough for him, we maybe if he were now considering Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, etc. But instead he's considering Fla and FSU. No disrespect to those institutions but they don't have grad rates or academics to match ND, so clearly he is looking for an easier route.
Well said Terry, you summed it up very nicely. Honestly I do agree with George and JO'Co in the fact that you look at Stanford as an example of a team that performs on and off the field. I would say that when a college football fan thinks of a great college team Duke or Stanford for that matter is not a team that pops into their thought process. As much as I enjoy the new academic mantra that Miami is enjoying I see the team playing as a team like Duke has played for the last generation. There seems to be no fire as I mentioned on a different topic. The item that seperates a team like Miami from Notre Dame is finances. Even though they are both private universities Notre Dame is in another dimension when it comes to having the ability to fund their sports program. Miami doubled its campus buildings and patted the kitty with revenue made by its program while it was winning every year. That revenue base is almost non-existent at this time. But for those of you Clinton lovers out there we should not fear because Donna Shalala is our school president and keeps reminding folks that she is the queen of fundraising...  Well enough of my crying I have run out of cheese to go with my wine anyhow. Lets just play ball and have some fun...
ND <t>I just don't know how much more of this I can take. Just when you think everything is a rock bottom we hit a new low. <br/> <br/> I always said I would be a ND Fan till I die but they are killing me right now! <br/> <br/> Somebody stop the bleeding.........<br/> <br/> I can't remember being this depressed over ND ever....</t>
Tim, I feel you pain. After watching Penn State shread our defense with a walk on QB, a 12 play playbook dating back to Truman administration, and a patchwork offensive line that had been getting the snot kicked out of it by other B10 teams , my state of mind is such that when I look forward to watching football on the weekend, I am now left with Lions as my only source of joy And when you admit that the Lions are your only refuge for football sanity, you know things are not good.
Went to the game yesterday Bobda. It was electric. The Lions are the best team in the NFL. ( best 2-5 team that is.... )
....ah you just don't know suffering Tom. Talk to me when you are on to your 5 coach in 14 years and none of them successful!! That means that since Fulmer resigned in 2008, you have had Kiffen, and now Dooley, so you have 3 more coaches to go in the next 12 years none of whom can be successful!!
It is not my intent here to rub salt in the wounds fellas, but I think that maybe Kelly was given a little more credit for Cincy's success than he deserved.....in truth, I think D'Antonio turned the program around, put that team together but left for Sparty before he had an opportunity to see the finished product..... In fairness, I think Gip might have suggested something to that effect earlier, but I believe there is some merit to that position. That said, he was the coach on the sideline that season and deserves some credit for their success.....I'm hopeful that he can turn the Irish around but it will not be an easy road.....fwiw, just my two cents.
Could be BT, I don't know. All I know is that right now he's in a heap of trouble, and he'd better find answers quickly or the hole he will have dug will be so deep that only some incredible season next year would save his ass.
... with that said, I hope that at the 14 year mark, we are still at three coaches. I think that Dooley is the right answer. The hole was dug so deep that it may take several years to even get to a winning season. He seems to hold true to Tennessee traditions which is something that Kiffin mocked. I am ready to give Dooley until he has Seniors that he recruited for at least 3 years (read 8 years from now) to turn it around. I hope it will be sooner but the big need right now is stability.
Tom, glad to see your attitude toward Dooley. I was pretty impressed with him when he was introduced. I expect him to bring you back and in less than the time for his players to be seniors. Kelly, way to early to get rid of him for his coaching. I have read some writers who are blaming him for the accident and I see he took the blame himself. I don't know much about that incident and how much pressure might be put on him because of it. As far as what kind of coach he is, when I look at Cinn this season they sure don't look like the same team they were when he was coach. But in the big picture it doesn't really make any difference to me except I don't like to see my Notre Dame fans in such turmoil. Maybe some, but certainly not all.
Wow......630 posts in this topic and I haven't weighed in. I suggest the ND Nation give this guy a chance. So he choked in the middle of a fiasco season. His track record suggests that he will win an NC at ND if given the opportunity.
I'm with Bobda on this one. The similarities between Rich Rod and BK are scary. Anyone who has seen Michigan's high school offense has to sneer just a little as they realize that Iowa, Michigan State and Wisconsin are running the Wolvies old power offense with much greater success. It seems as if the only team that Michigan can beat is the team with the high school defense: Notre Dame. How did either program arrive at this low level? There's been some real incompetence somewhere...
Another injury from the Tulsa game has surfaced. Ruffers long snapper broke his ankle during the game, apparently on the blocked extra point.
It's really a shame, while this team has many flaws, and maybe they are soft which is the most common criticism that I read of the team. But they worked hard in the offseason with the new S&C program which by all reports was much improved over previous program. But with some questionable coaching decisions, some bad luck on injuries, we have what we have. The Declan Sullivan situation was the topper for this team and the worst of Kelly's decisions to throw the pass rather than kick the FG added to that and I don't know how this team can get up for the challenge with Utah. The fans right now are as acrimonious towards the program and the school administration as I have ever seen them. It took Davie, Willingham and Weis about 3 years to get to where Kelly is right now. He has to be questioning his decision to take this job.
