Aah. I see your point clearly. Unfortunately, that's the direction the powers that be have chosen. For my part, even though we live less than 3 hours from South Bend, I'm going there for games less and less often with each passing year. This season, I'm going only to the Navy game and meeting my college roomie, who is staying in a rented house in town with his daughter's family.
ND <r>Just watched the first of the series "A season with Notre Dame" shows on showtime. Personally, I liked it. Then again, after a big win it's not hard to please me. I may not feel the same if we were to have a loss. <E></E></r>
i thought it was good as well tim, tough to see how the jarron jones injury occured, talk about freak accident.
Not to break up the cordial dust up between Sid and Mike (I agree with Sid re the whores)... at the same time, I understand how people fall into being whores..... but Texans really do enjoy a good ass kicking of themselves. They got curb stomped at the Alamo and they celebrate that thing with the same fervor that used Elvis crap gets in Mississippi and Western Tennnessee. I meant to watch that show tonight. I'll see if it is on demand for Showtime.
You know what they say about first impressions. We went down to the Cotton Bowl in 1979 to watch the Irish play No. 1 Texas with Earl Campbell. Obviously the host city Dallas was full of Longhorn fans. They couldn't have been nicer both before the game and after we beat their asses senseless. We had the same experience years later when we say aTm beat Tim Brown and the Irish. I compare them with the maggots who infest Miami. I've never seen so many rude "host" city folks. They went out of their way to disparage ND every chance they could. But the worst part was ND WAS IN MIAMI TO PLAY COLORADO.
From the ND Student Newspaper, The Observer, comes this letter from a Texas fan who attended the game:
I think for the most part this the typical ND visitor experience. The campus is very attractive, the ND fans are for the most part very friendly and welcoming and it is one of college football's most historic venues. I've seen letters like this from all sorts of fans. On the Texas board I participate in the reports were for the most part all very complimentary, a couple of exceptions where a Texas fan was hassled by some drunk (most likely) Irish fan. But not the norm. But I must say that it's not just ND, I know people who have been to Knoxville for Tenn/ND and all said it was really a great experience. Stu can back me up on this but I think most Ohio State fans came away from Austin not only with a win in 2006 but also a good feeling for the Texas gameday experience.
