Some concerns of a worry wart: Malik Jefferson looked great but he was helped by MZ not seeing him coming and not checking off. While the OL looked really good in pass protection, Losing Folston is going to put a lot of pressure on CJ and Adams to recognize the blitz and provide protection for the QB. Out kickoffs are not deep enough although I thought coverage was good. And speaking of kicks Yoon's 45 attempt was not very impressive. What's he going to be like with the game with Clemson on the line in the closing minute? I'm going to quote Lou also, “You're never as good as everyone tells you when you win, and you're never as bad as they say when you lose.”
So why was this not an ejection for hitting high helmet to helmet? Oh wait... Big Bevo refs... <iframe src="https://vine.co/v/eTVE7L9hZZa/embed/simple" width="600" height="600" frameborder="0"></iframe><script src="https://platform.vine.co/static/scripts/embed.js"></script>
Scott I agree and when it happened I was completely shocked that helmet to helmet wasn't called. The kid continued to play so hopefully our Docs dit the proper testing and he didn't have a concussion. I do think though that on our 1st score that our QB missed getting the play off by a nanosecond, but B12 refs missed it. Also IMHO we caught a break on a pass that was ruled incomplete and reciever didn't have feet/foot down and possession but that was the review crew which would have been ACC guys...who have no real love of the Irish though.
Check out this play with Nelson mauling the Texas defense...this kid should be great this year. Nelson
While not a Nebraska sellout by Notre Dame faculty and season ticket holders there was a large contingent of Texas fans at the game. From the online reports I'm reading at Inside Texas most of them really enjoyed the game day atmosphere at South Bend, which is pretty typical of visiting fans. Texas fans as a group travel pretty well and are pretty friendly so it was two good fan groups getting together. Texas fans pretty upset though with the offense and OCoord Shawn Watson, lots of talk that without a fast turnaround he might not make it through the season. Same for OL coach Wickline. Reports are that Patterson and big Cigars did not want Strong to bring Watson in the first place and that he's entering Greg Davis territory with the fans/donors. Could be a rough year for Strong if he doesn't get things righted starting with Rice.
Basketball related items... Former Gator verbal John Mooney (F) committed to Mike Brey over the weekend. He reopened his recruiting after Donavan left for OKC/NBA. Some guys said he (Donavan) told the Mooney family they needed to check out Notre Dame and called Mike Brey himselt of let Mike know that he should go after the kid. Also Texan Lauren Cox the #1 ranked woman in the 2016 class in basketball was on campus for the Texas game. She's wanted by everybody of course, Texas, Baylor, Notre Dame, and UConn are the teams in her final four. Hopefully she had a great time. I don't think anybody knows what she's going to do, she did eliminate South Carolina though recently.
About the Texas turnout 1. Thars a lot of money in Texas 2. It's been quite a while since they've played in South Bend and many have a trip to ND on their bucket list. 3. The cost of season tickets is getting pretty steep for some fans. It's a break for them to recoup a lot of that cost from just one game. 4. For years there have been long time season ticket holder in the South Bend area that make money scalping them. Often they're purchased by ND fans but obviously some Horns fans outbid them. 5. Sites like Stubhub make buying and selling tix so easy. Oh, and last I saw there were a little over 1,000 tickets available for the Va. game this week.
I get it that when you can pay for your season ticket with one game it makes sense of course from a financial standpoint. But you never see that at Neb, or at Ohio State, or at Michigan but there you get a free coke and pizza with your ticket so who would give that up! I wonder how many Texas fans or ND fans for that matter, paid the outrageous prices that were being advertised on Stub Hub?
I learned at the 2001 Nebraska game that a worrisome number of ND fans are whores. They'll sell out for the big games if the price is right. That's why Notre Dame never will be a dangerous venue for visiting teams for big games. I've said this before....by the luck of the alumni draw, I had ND-NE tickets in 2001 between the visitors' side 45 and 50. I never gave a thought to selling them. I never would. Unfortunately, there are thousands of ND ticket holders who don't feel the same. There is no excuse for selling your tickets to the opponents' fans.
"I get it that when you can pay for your season ticket with one game it makes sense of course from a financial standpoint." I used to be able to do something very similar as that with UF.... giving up my two Bama-UF seats in 2011 for instance for a cool total of $525.00 Of course UF got trounced and I was a smart guy. Then as the UF Admin started raising my prices for those two endzone seats the on field product became so lousy that I couldn't unload any tickets hardly for even face value. I reluctantly said bye bye to the tix a couple of years ago after the 4-8 debacle. I recently bought 5 tickets to the UT-UF game at just over face and that may be all I spend on Gator tickets this season. Picked that one because hopefully UF will be 3-0 and still having some pride and Tenn is at least 2-1 maybe 3-0 also. The Swamp will be jumpin if that is the case....
ICON video is up on und.com for Texas game...very good. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/inVFp6Sd1Gg" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Very nice. Always enjoyable when we win. Re: season ticket cost. If you have to be concerned about recovering your cost, you shouldn't be buying season tickets in the first place.
No I'm equating the ND administration of taking seats that were once part of the lottery and designating them "season tickets." Actually the season tickets coincided with the elimination of the senior alum game. Why make those seats available for the typical alum that has travel costs on top of the ticket charge when you can use those tickets to pander to the nobility?
