Well Irish get the win, defense still not very good though and what is with the running game? I mean take away Dexter's big run and it's not very good and Syracuse is one of the worst run defenses in the country. But a win is a win, and I'll take it. But we'll have to get a lot better before I'll feel like we're going to crack the .500 mark. I haven't actually watched the game though, I played golf and recorded it so any comment it just second hand from reading online. Clearly we continue to score a lot of points, but we need the defense to get much better.
I played golf this morning and taped the Ryder Cup. I tried to watch the ND game but I can't stand stupid football. I thought that I'd see just about every dumb play that there is but targeting a QB after he's done a hook slide is the worst. After the Tori Hunter no call you just knew that the first time a replay booth overruled the field crew on targeting it would be against the Irish. The encroachment and moving before the snap were just senseless. When we gave up the long punt return and following TD just before the half I started watching the golf.
I just got back from the game. Actually, it was more like a track meet. Neither team has much defense to speak of. Hence Syracuse had 500 yards of offense and lost by 17. We had almost 700 yards and yet the game was won by our special teams. We are just a fair to good team. There is something missing in the chemistry department. You can just feel it. At this point a record of 7-5 would be very commendable.
It hasn't been mentioned much but Justin Yoon has been erratic this year. Misses vs Texas and Duke potentially cost us the game. He was so solid last year, I hope he gets back in the groove.
For the moment, the Irish no longer are the best college team in Indiana. IU beat Michigan State 24-21 in OT, something we couldn't do. It may change as the season wears on, but for now ND is #2 in the state.
Off topic, but... http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2016/10/02/doyel-mad-darrell-hazell-purdue-football-have-care-first/91431956/
Stu, with the new AD I would think he'd be working the lines right now to decide who he can bring in and how he can create an atmosphere where the new guy has a chance to succeed.
Stu, I read the column. It's a sad situation.I like Hazell and wish he could show improvement in the program and keep his job. The results of the Maryland game may be his Waterloo. We'll see.
Sid, I like Hazell also. I'm always the last one to climb off the ship but...man, you gotta put SOME kind of product out on the field.
Could things get worse? I guess so, there is now a giant sinkhole on one end of the Purdue football field. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/water-line-break-at-purdues-stadium-causes-sinkhole-near-end-zone-photos-182401332.html
