Sid I have read various positive things about our WR blocking on the edge. Mike Denbrock the OCoord also coaches the WR's and he's also coached the OL in the past so I think that may account for why the WR's can block!!
ND <t>ESPN's Brian Griese says Notre Dame does not belong in the top 10 at all, haven't played anybody yet, played terrible against Syracuse and Michigan just gave them the game. <br/> <br/> Does he hate ND that badly or what?</t>
I was at the ND/Stanford game in 2012. I was cold, wet and miserable..but overjoyed at the end. Looks like this weekend is setting up to be the same, cold and wet...hopefully while I'll be warm and snug at home this afternoon...I'll still have that overjoyed feeling! Also while I've always preferred a grass field for football, this is the type of weather where the Field Turf should make the surface much more playable ...for both teams.
I think the turf field has made us a touchdown better every game we play on it. That crappy sod field slowed us down.
ND <r>Please note this quote cannot be attributed to me:<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I was amused when I read it though.</r>
Watching Ohio State at Maryland. It sounds like the Buckeyes band is there in force at the game in College Park. Last week at the Meadowlands the Irish brought no band, not even a pep band. They had a small contingent of cheerleaders and the leprechaun. Thinking back, we did not hear the ND fight song once the entire night. For a program and university of ND's stature, that is really doing things on the cheap.
It was Syracuse' home game. I wonder if they didn't invite the band or even didn't allow an ND representation band-wise. It's not unusual for the visiting team not to have a band unless there is reciprocation. Think of the teams who bring their bands to ND and allow our bands at their stadiums. The only ones that come to my feeble mind are Navy and Southern Cal (ugh!). I'm guessing but don't know for a fact that the Big 10 has a tradition or a conference rule that allows bands to go to opponents' stadiums.
We virtually never take our band to USC, they always bring their band to ND. I could be wrong but I don't remember our band at USC in my lifetime, always seems to be Notre Dame HS. Texas takes it's band to every away game. Stanford band is permanently banned from ND stadium I believe. I'm certainly glad to be snug at home watching this game. It looks even worse than the 2012 Stanford game, and I was cold and miserable. We should be up 14-7..Golson not giving a Heisman performance. Of course the Stanford Defense is #1, and they look like it. Have to take care of the football and continue to play good defense in the 2nd half.

Unbelievable finish! Golson was money when we needed him to be money. That Stanford DLine was whipping our OL all day, but somehow we survived. No running game, terrible holds on 2 sure field goals, pick on the goal line, and fumble inside our own 10. Brian Van Gorder's defense gets the game ball today, they really played great the whole game.
What did you guys think of the calls that went in our favor? That one on the last Cole Luke INT couldn't be overturned there was no view that showed whether he held on or not. I was surprised that the catch by Robinson held up, while the announcers were 100% sure it would be over turned I thought maybe (with my Irish Eyes) I could see his hands get under the ball. The PI call on Stanford late in the game on Fuller, I thought was going to be called in the endzone and we'd have the ball on the 2 yd line. Instead it was just regular PI and 15yds. Didn't matter in the end, but I still think it should have been called a PI in the endzone. Hell Fuller almost caught the ball in the endzone. STATS. While we didn't run that well, we out gained Stanford on the ground 129yds to 44 yds, and overall we put up 370 yds in the freezing cold rain with high swirling winds, they barely got 205yds. Like Tim this win is esp satisfying because all the "experts" were picking Stanford because we hadn't really played anybody and were no doubt over rated. I liked Kelly after the game when he was asked about the criticism of ND's schedule not having played anybody in the top 10...he was deferential but noted that we still haven't played anybody in the top 10...little shot at the Trees.
Holder putting on gloves, just another example of Kelly making great moves. I wondered why the kid didn't have hand warmers on his hands over there on the sideline.
