One second left and ND has the ball on the USC 4 yard line. This is why I had 2 points on this game. I picked USC but I'll give the 2 points up to see USC go down!
Well, it wasn't to be. ND scared the crap out of them. Even though he went to Notre Dame instead of following his brothers to Tennessee, I still like to see Jimmy playing well.
Tough loss. But for the first time since 2005 we played them tough down to the end. Kudo's to Jimmy Clausen, that is one tough son of a gun. He's a great college QB, he's a winner and did I say he's tough. Too bad Kamara slipped on that last play or it's TD and we're headed to OT. Matt Barkley looked great for the Trojans as did that TE of theirs. I'm exhausted.
Don a lot depends on how he finishes the season. He has no teams left who are as good as USC, he should/could win them all starting with BC next week. That's the rub, he should...but if he doesn't and stumbles home then I am not sure he will be retained. He has to finish now.
Tough loss fellas.....gutsy comeback to give Petey and his boys a huge scare. The Clausen kid is as gritty as they get.....too bad. On the other side of the ball, has anybody seen a true frosh as poised and efficient as Barkley. I don't think I have....
 Gipper did you survive ....... I was worried about you in the 4 th .. i really dont want to go to work monday and face the music I really thought we would win this one.......
Gipper and wife underdressed for the game. When SC threw that same 3rd and 1 pass to the TE that they'd thrown in the first half, I'd seen enough. Caught the last few minutes of the game in a sports bar. If we'd come back to tie or win I would have felt awful. Instead, I was happy to beat the traffic and warm up. How can you let them run the same play a second time and get beat the same way? How can you blitz when the opponent has trips flanked wide? We did that at least twice and there was a receiver wide open each time. I'm still not sure that Rudolph didn't catch that ball for a TD. Seems like every f##ken game we have a TD pass disallowed.
Rudolph was definitely out. Jimmy tossed the ball way too high it gave the DB a chance to get back into the play.
Rudolph was OB... no question. Here is a disturbing trend.... the good news is we only have three more spots to go 8) Here is Notre Dame's freefall in pass defense rating this season, rankings out of 120 D1 teams: After Nevada #37 (154.00 yds) After Michigan #58 (197.00 yds) After MSU #91 (249.33 yds) After Purdue #106 (259.25 yds) After Washington #110 (263.60 yds) After USC #117 (283.00 yds)
Just mind boggling our pass defense. I know we don't get a good pass rush, but the DB's were supposed to be the strength of this defense, they were all 3 or 4 star players well thought of when recruited. Maybe it's Tenuta, maybe it's Corwin Brown, I don't know. I just know they don't cover very well and they don't tackle very well and with rare exception when they get the chance to make a play they drop the INT. Corwin Brown is popular, a great recruiter and people keep saying he's a head coach in the making. Now the 1st 2 are a given, I like what I know of him and he is a good recruiter, but as a DB coach or DCoord I don't see what he's done to make any school want to take a chance on him. I don't think he's even a good DB coach, at least right now. If Clausen had a defense like UF, Alabama, OU, Texas, USC to play with there is no doubt in my mind we'd be undefeated and kicking some major butt. We have a top 10 offense, it just has to carry the entire load it seems. Now I don't want to overlook that it was the defense that made the play to win in OT vs UW, but it was also the defense that let them drive the field to score and take us into OT. Of course there's always the next game where the lights will go on and we'll go on a good defensive run to end the season....but I'm not holding my breath. If Weis stays then he really needs to take a hard look at Tenuta and Brown and cut them loose.
Tai-ler Jones (who thinks up these names and their spellings?) just decommited from Standford and gave Charlie his verbal today before leaving for home. He's a 4* WR and the son of former ND player Andre Jones. He is #77 on the ESPN 150. This is the 2nd Stanford verbal that Weis has taken from Harbaugh, the other is Chris Badger. Harbaugh was pretty steamed at losing to the Irish last year and supposedly told Jimmy Clausen to go F&ck himself when Clausen tried to shake his hand after the game. He might punch somebody this year should the Irish prevail on the field again. Terry
For the record, after Urbie pilfered Omar Hunter and Justin Trattou a couple of years ago from ND at the 11th hour, Weis came out with a policy that if an Irish verbal started visiting or talking to other schools then ND would also look for another to fill that slot as well. It appears that what's good for the goose is NOT what's good for the gander.
I .... <t>Seldom post much on the ND defense as they have killed my passion from game one versus Nevada when I saw disturbing things like wide open receivers all day but a Nevada QB that was way off. They ran us to death as well just didn't get it in the end zone. I was told I was way off and we had shut down corners yada yada so I took the fifth and shut up. Well sadly we get exposed week by week even in close wins.
I maintain we have no down linemen to get excited about unless there is a young freshman already there or on the way. It's not by accident that we seldom get pressure on other teams and they pass us to death like MB did yesterday. I told my son yesterday SC would beat us by 14 or more. I was wrong on the score and to the credit of the offense we didn't quit and stopped the blowout at 34-14. I wish JC had the opportunity to play against the ND defense in a game like Saturday as he would hang 50 on this bunch. Can you imagine what a team with an offense like Houston would do to the current ND defense? I maintain until a head coach at ND (Weis or the the next guy) finds a way to get a solid defense again at this school we as a program will never get back to being talked about with the likes of Florida, USC or an Alabama. Eight years in a row losing to SC sickens me but I understand why.
Looking at the rest of the schedule does anyone else see us winning out or like myself sadly can see us losing maybe three more? BC at home next week, how has that been working for us the last few years?

I made a point last night of tuning in Stanford for one reason to see a kid I watched play at Stratford high school for three years here in Houston, 10 minutes from my from door. Remember the name Andrew Luck the son of an old Oiler QB Oliver Luck. Name the school out there and he had an offer from them.
He threw for 423 yesterday in losing cause to Arizona. Our only saving grace is Stanford is real poor on defense as well but I can see this kid carving us up as he will play on Sundays. I dread the game with them.

Do I hope we somehow get on a roll and win out of course but I have zero confidence in that defense and its coaches getting it done for us.

Oh well at least we didn't give up sixty plus to cough, Kansas State. That is beyond belief according to my Aggie son-in-law.

Oh and George how bout those Yankees.............. looks like their year.</t>
If that is true and ND can prove it, That coach should be removed by the NCAA. These "Men" are supposed to be teaching sportsmanship. How can we expect these kids to have respect for the opposition if the coaches act like that?
Well certainly the Irish are likely to be favored in the final 6 games of the year and nobody is even close to being as good as USC. So it's certainly possible that we will win out. The problem is of course that the offense can not have an off day as they have no defense to bail them out like Alabama or Fla or Texas did for their offenses yesterday. BC of course is the perfect trap game, just like our other nemesis Mich State they come after a highly emotional rivalry game. Plus both teams of course have been better than average some years really good. This year will be a test of something Sid always harps on and that is leadership in the upper classes. I think in Clausen we have one of the great leaders that we have seen in quite awhile. I don't believe he will allow the offense to do anything but come out firing on all cyclinders. I don't know who that guy is on the defense, that of course is the rub.
Tom I have heard it from a very good source that is what he said, but there is no way to prove it and I can't imagine Jimmy or Charlie or anybody wants to go after another coach for using profanity on an opposing player after a tough loss, esp when they go into and probably use profanity themselves on their own players who screwed up during the game.
It is almost expected that a coach will go in and use questionable language to get their own players' attention. The players are not performing to expectations and the coach is "motivating" them to play better. When a coach acts as you reported, and I have no doubt he did, he can not be acting in any other way than with malice and disrespect. This is the total lack of sportsmanship.
