Clausen has turf toe, but will play on Sat. Armando has a ankle injury and will also likely play.

Turf toe is one of those things that seems to plague a player once he gets it and never gets better while they are trying to play. They can usually play through it and get it better in the offseason.

It would be nice to get a big lead on Purdue and let Crist, Gray and Riddick get a lot of meaningful playing time and give Clausens toe some rest! :)

Interesting. A turf toe injury playing on grass. I always thought it only happened playing on astroturf. It must be some kind of sprain that doesn't heal quickly because of the constant pressure on the joint caused by walking/running.

hmmmmmmmmmmm We might have to outscore Purdue as well...I was so hoping for a 45-13 or something like that win, not another 35-30 win or worse loss.

I think the Irish will win but being the pessimist that I am I think It'll close. Something like 40-35. I just don't think the ND defense can stop an offense like Purdue's.

It's not like me seem over-confident, but.........

As bad as our defense has been the last 2 games, I have trouble believing it's worse than Northern Illinois, which statistically dominated Purdue's offense and gave up "only" 21 points. On the other hand, I am confident we can score on PU's defense. The intangible is that PU always plays hard against us at their place, so a different team from the team that played against No. Illinois likely will show up.

I just don't put much stock in how Purdue played against No. Illinois. I do put some stock in how they played out west in Autzen Stadium vs Oregon. They played very well and could have won that game. That scares me.

I think it's possible that No. Illinois was your classic "trap" game for the Boilers.

    We shall see though.

One other thing, the Irish schedule which looked weak to start the year is looking tougher.

UM is better than expected; Navy went into the Shoe and played OSU toe to toe; Purdue went to Autzen and played Oregon well, Pittsburgh is 3-0, Washington gave LSU an excellent game and beat USC. UConn took UNC to the wire before a safety in the last 2 minutes allowed UNC out of town with the win, then they beat Baylor who is not your same old Baylor.

B10 has suspended Purdue LG Zack Reckman ( I wonder they just mispelled Ryckman?) for unsportsman like play during the No. Illinois game.

On a related note evidently Rich Rodriguez is going through all B10 films to make sure nobody gets away with throwing a punch like his player did against ND.

I was watching the PU-NI game and saw that late hit. It was so obvious that I was surprised a flag wasn't thrown. I guess it's another case of B10 refs protecting their own. I'm glad the conference is taking action. Hopefully, they will instruct the refs to be more impartial in the future vs. nonconference opponents.

I see where the Michigan coach is making it his mission to review films to catch other teams committing personal fouls that aren't called. What a dufus!

    Edit:
After reading more about last week's game, I realized that the late hit came on the last play of the game. That's why a flag wasn't thrown. My most humble apologies to the Big 10 refs.

Starting to be some rumours that Jimmy won't start against Purdue. That would be very bad, I'm not liking the way this game is shaping up. Purdue, based on their game with Oregon has some good offense and we have a leaky defense so we'll need to score a lot of points and with JC out or limping and Armando maybe not 100% and Floyd out, then this is not good!

Hopefully this is the week that our Defense finally gets untracked and plays to the level that I thought they would before the season started.

TOK, I think it was you who said earlier that turf toe can be very aggravating. I've heard the same and vaguely recall a top FB player (college or pro?) who missed most of a season because of turf toe. I sure hope Clausen's injury is not that bad.

    ND/pu

    <r>Terry,
I'm not buying pu being a good team. I know they played Oregon tough but they did the same thing last year and ND beat them up bad.

Even if Dane Crist starts we still have more offensive power than pu. kamara or Evans or a combination of receivers will have to step up and make it happen.
Tim and Terry,

I go back to having watched the PU-No. Illinois game. I agree with Tim that PU simply is not a good team. Having said that, I always dread playing at Ross-Ade Stadium. Bad things can happen there, regardless of how bad a team PU seems to have.

Thanks, Terry! A great way to get fired up for the game.

    Two things:

    1) I had forgotten about the Ray Zellars run. Wow!!

    2) I was at the 1977 game with my folks. Montana was the 3rd string QB. Lish was injured, then came Gary Forystek, who was injured seriously by the PU nose tackle, Arrington. An ambulance drove onto the field where he lay to take him to the hospital. Then in came Montana and the rest is history. I had forgotten some of the details brought out in the video.....that Hermann was only a freshman and how our defense completely shut down PU in the 2nd half.

I might have bought unsportsmanlike conduct on that 3rd down play but didn't see a personal foul...but no volume here either...maybe I missd something.
