That's so much kinder than "The Hell with Purdue". Good luck guys...I'm on a golf trip and got bad feelings about this one...didn't even set the DVR to record it...
ND/PU <r>O.K., I've stayed away long enough. It's time to weigh in on this game. I don't know how the Irish win, I just hope they find a way to win. They need this one. <E></E></r>
well, if we don't start getting the holding call we will never get pressure on Painter and will be in big trouble. That's twice now the end beat the tackle only to be grabbed from behind leading to Painter completing a big pass. ugh even game otherwise
Great win for the Irish. That's easily the best the offense has looked in the last two years. Three and one. Not bad, not bad at all. PJ in Jersey
Looking back on today 1. Nice to see that some dentist from Houston was able to get the team to play to their potential. Way to go Doc. 2. Jimmy is a very accurate passer. He's now learning to look for secondary and third receivers. Nice. 3. We can run....sometimes. 4 Armando Allen is the most explosive of the group of RBs. He's gotten much stronger since last year and his vision is also improved. 5. Watching freshmen contribute is really exciting. One more solid recruiting class with the right positional players and .....watch out! We will be back. 6. Our schedule is tougher than we might have thought. NC with their victory today in Miami has served notice that they're one tough team. (and did Navy win today too? Wow!) 7. There were some important recruits visiting today. They must have been impressed.
Nice win, guys...congrats...I know how much y'all like beating on us. I hope this portends good things for ND, but I'm afraid we aren't a very solid team right now...we owe a lot to Joe Tiller but I'm starting to lean towards the side of the fans that think he may have retired a couple years ago...I dunno... For the past several years now we have been a team that shows up and beats teams we should beat...but we haven't won any big games against good teams at all. Our conference record might really suck this year.
I was at the game, Stu. Painter is very good and Tardy and Orton are excellent receivers. Although you don't have a pounding running game, you will continue to cause your opponents fits with your passing game. IMO your achilles heel yesterday was your defense. As happy as I was with our offensive performance, I have to believe your run D, especially in the 2nd half, contributed to our effectiveness. You are going to have a good - not great - season and probably will get to a bowl game.
ND/pu <r>Finally......finally......FINALLY......we saw an the offensive explosion we have been waiting for!!! Hopefully the team will keep moving in the direction they were in this game the rest of the season! <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E></r>
I have to tell you it was an absolutely beautiful day for football in Northern Indiana. We had bright sunshine, low humidity, cold beer, hot brats, and a prime tailgate location!!! Oh yeah and an Irish win. Irish got off to a little bit of a slow start, but they really finished strong. The defense gave up a ton of yards to Painter, but he threw nearly 60 passes. He got rid of the ball quickly as a good spread QB should do and we didn't really get much pressure on him. So that tells you how good our DB's played in general. Naturally everybody was excited that Armando Allen and the running game finally got rolling and Jimmy was really on target, while we won't know for awhile but I think this team can be very good by the end of the season if they keep working and getting better each week. There is talent there, Tate, Grimes and Floyd can all catch the ball and JC can deliver it. Kyle Rudolph will also only get better so Clausen should be able to make defenses pay if they load up to stop the run. We are still so young though that it's likely we will have a couple of more stinkers and losses this year but I'm hopeful for 8 or 9 wins. The next step they need to make is to get off to a good start. It looks to me like we no longer have a 1a, 1b, 1c at TB, with the game Allen had yesterday the other 2 guys (Hughes and Aldridge) are going to get some work but Armando is going to get the bulk of the caries. I was certainly glad to see Walker finally boot one through, we are going to need him if we hope to go 8-4 or better. I'd be pretty happy if he just makes all his FG's from 30yds in and 90% of those between 30 and 40yds and outside of 40 if he can hit 40-50% it'll not be great but better. Main thing is to get him going, to get his confidence back up. I sort of look at this as a breakout game for the offense, but the next step is 4 quarters of good offense, not struggle some for 2 qtrs and then explode. The Defense has been pretty good and given that we are thin on the DL and are playing a new system with some pretty young players we should expect to struggle somewhat. But in the 3rd and 4th qtr when they needed to get Purdue off the field they got them off the field. I just keep waiting for that game where our blitz gets to the QB several times and chases him a lot. The end of the weekend was at a Bar in St. Joes where the bartender was giving us doubles when we ordered singles!! Terry
Walker's kicks are strong, but he has to get it on target. I think his next few boots will be paramount to his confidence for the rest of the season. I am very concerned about him. The defense has done what they need to.. While QBs are getting off the 3 step drop... in the past QBs have been able to roam around and make the big play, they don't have the luxury anymore.
Great win for the Irish....I figured the Boilers for a solid squad this year with Painter and Sheets both good football players. I watched most of it and came away impressed with the progress Charlie has made with this team....imho, they looked and played alot more physical than any I'd seen in recent memory against a decent Purdue team. Looks like good things are coming your way in SB....congrats.
That's the key BT, the team should feel great but not overconfident that they just beat a top 10 team. It was a very good win, and they did a lot of things right, but they also have to keep it in perspective and continue to work very hard.
