Another great day for football. I'll be off to Gainesville in about an hour and a half and plan on having a great day.

Hope all you do the same.

I'm a little concerned about the weather as well...

I realize that both teams hafta contend with whatever we get, but I really think that the only way we can even keep this game competitive is to be completely mistake-free...harder to do on a wet field when your offense is best geared around speed and wide receivers.

Well, as Tiller says...don't worry 'bout things that are not in your control.

Well Irish finally got a running game going and got going in the first qtr.

I kept thinking that we were going to lay a big number on the Purdue defense but they hung in there pretty good and Painter threw the ball very well, that #1 was really really good.

That said our defense just isn't very good right now, for the most part we got no pass rush on Painter and #1 just smoked our DB's.

But like my Ohio State buddies I'm happy for a 1 point win.....wait no I'm not I wanted to crush them!!

Two big weaknesses really stand out on our defense: no pass rush and poor linebacking. Brockington was toasted all day. I first noticed this in the first quarter and my son Eric and I tracked it through the entire game. Purdue's offense audibled right at Brockington and frosh CB Darin Walls all day. When they were both on the same side, you could predict that the next play would be run at that side every time.

Right now, we're not even using a third LB at all. We run nickle back the whole game, with Tommy up as the third LB and Terrail Lambert in as the nickle back. This means that Crum and the other guy have to be all-world and today Brockington was a lot less than that. If there was ever any doubt about why Charlie moved Travis Thomas to weak-side LB, there shouldn't be any doubt after seeing this. We only have one prime-time LB with Thomas out of there: Maurice Crum...

Sam Young is looking really good/comfortable now at RT and his alternate Paul Duncan looks pretty good too, especially on the run...

If we can ever find some LBs next year, I think we will be OK at safety, despite the departure of Tommy Z and Chinedum. Ray Herring looks pretty good when he's in there and Sergio Brown and Kyle McCarthy look good on special teams too. In fact, we may be so loaded with killers at safety that I wouldn't be surprised to see one or more of them move to LB next year if the linebacking depth chart doesn't improve...

Is little Georgie West the new Joey Getherall? Could be. I see that Walls is returning kickoffs now too...
    :)

The schedule gets soft now. Why not get Toryan Smith in the middle and see what he's got. Having TZ roam around out there free is doing nothing but taking him out of the game. We've hardly heard his name called in the last two games on defense; all we see is him providing "reare escort" to another WR flying to the endzone.

How about TZ at CB and move walls or one of the others to safety?

<r>Well obviously our Defense has a loooong way to go, but just so everyone knows....YES! I did enjoy watchng the Irish beat the crap out of PU. That train definately de-railed at the big SB yesterday. Take that stupid looking mascot that looks like Bob's Big Boy and push that ugly train back to W. Layfayette. God I love beating Purdue!!! <E>:D</E> GO IRISH!!! <E>8)</E></r>

I know I have ranted on to great lengths before and after the PU game about my dislike for the Boilers. I hope you don't take any of it personal because it isn't. <br/>
    <br/>
Just so you know, I have a daughter in Indiana who's favorite college team is Purdue. I haven't been able to convert her. I don't know if that makes you feel any better but it is true. She has some friends and relatives who graduated from PU.</t>
