    None taken.

I just hate having people see a post like that and next somebody thinks that there really was some kind of incident.

Domers have enough irrational dislike for our fine institution without any help...just look at our friend Tim (geez, and after all the nice things I said to TOK about Texas and especially Texas women!)

To my knowledge, George, Joe Tiller has never received a promotion fee from Quaker Oats.

You mean I've been buying supplies from Liberty Medical because I believed Tiller?

To clear up any confusion, here is an actual picture of Tim-in-El Paso singing with his sidekick Ricky Ricardo...

Taken from an article in today's SB Tribune:
I listened to the Minnesota game last week. The Purdue QB has several outstanding receivers to throw to, and they have a running game to balance the passing attack. In theory, we should be able to exploit a defense which gave up 35 points to perennial 1-AA loser Indiana State, but it's Purdue, and anything goes. IMO we would make a serious mistake to underrate them, which I don't think will happen. I'll be at the game.

The same article cited above states that Sagarin rates ND's schedule through the first four games as the toughest in the country, which is no surprise. Certainly this rating will even out as other teams embark on their conference schedules, but it shows that we have been tested and as bad as we have played at times have emerged 3-1, which is not bad.

I feel better now. Tennessee has played two top 10 teams and has come out 3-1. Not bad... Not bad at all!

Amazing how playing those darn B10 teams can elevate your schedule rating. :)

It's hard to make any evaluation of teams that have played weak opening schedules. Take that Purdue/Indiana State game, I wonder how up the Purdue team was and what kind of game plan they put in on defense and stuff like that.

The conventional wisdom is that playing good teams gets you ready for playing more good/great teams and that playing bad teams doesn't prepare you for the good/great teams you face later. But we see it all the time where somebody looks medicore winning vs a 1AA team, then looks great the next week vs a good Div1 team.

I may not be the best looking guy in Texas, and for sure I don't look as good as some of the ladies down here, but judging from the recent photo of Coach Tiller I found below, I'm looking pretty good.<br/>

Here is an article on Ryan Baker (no relation). Remember him? He was a TE recruit a couple of years ago who committed to ND then decommitted and went to Purdue. He now is a starting DT.

    Article FYI:

    Boilermakers' eyes focused on Quinn

    By TOM KUBAT
    tkubat@journalandcourier.com

Purdue coach Joe Tiller didn't try to sugar coat it. He was up front and direct. Of course, there's no way to hide it -- the biggest concern heading into Saturday's game at No. 12 Notre Dame is how well Purdue can defend quarterback Brady Quinn and the Fighting Irish's passing attack.

While Quinn and the Irish are averaging 271.5 yards passing a game, the Boilermakers and their young secondary are giving up 284.8 yards through the air.

So what does Purdue do? Does it blitz, and risk leaving the defensive backs on an island? Or do the Boilermakers play it straight and hope the front four alone can put decent pressure on Quinn? Or do they drop eight defenders?

Without giving away the game plan, here's what Tiller had to say:

"I think it's a mistake for you not to do what your guys do the best. Whatever that is. So you try to take that, and maybe mix and match it.

"When you go against a really, really experienced quarterback, like Notre Dame has, if you just show him one coverage, and that's all you show him because that's what your guys play the best, he's just plain too talented to shut down. He's going to lick his chops and enjoy that. So you have to mix it up some."

    Learn from MSU?

Since Michigan State also runs a spread offense, one would think that the Purdue coaching staff could learn a thing or two about how Notre Dame defends a spread by watching film of the Fighting Irish's comeback victory at in East Lansing last week. At least by watching the first half of that game -- before the Spartan offense became ultra conservative in the final two quarters.

"It helps you a little bit in terms of adjustments to the formation," Tiller said. "We have a different talent level than Michigan State has. Michigan State burnt them early in the game with some vertical stuff. While we'd like to be a vertical passing team, we're not there yet.

"But you can see how they line up against (different formations)."

    A different look

Curtis Painter was a freshman the last time Purdue played at Notre Dame, but he stood on the sidelines as the Boilermakers knocked off the Irish 41-16.

This time he'll be playing a vital role, in his first start in famed Notre Dame Stadium.

"You kind of have to be there to (understand) the experience," Painter said. "The environment and all the tradition makes it a neat place to play. The atmosphere is great, and the crowd is into it the whole game.

"I'm usually not too bad about getting nervous until right before the game. Once that first play's off, I'm usually not too nervous."

Painter's first two starts last season were at Wisconsin and at Penn State, where the Badgers' Camp Randall Stadium seats 76,000 and the Nittany Lions' Beaver Stadium has a capacity of 107,000.

He figures those two games will help prepare him for 80,000-seat Notre Dame Stadium.

"I think it helps a lot," Painter said. "Both of those places are very loud, very big. So I think having a little bit of experience like that in those stadiums will help me out in terms of communication and what I need to do to help everyone else around me."

    Time of possession

After four games, Purdue's average time of possession has been 27:03, compared to its opponents' 32:56.

That's not too unusual because of Purdue's quick-strike offense. But, partly because of the new rule which requires the game clock to be restarted after every change of possession, when the ball is kicked on a kickoff, etc., Tiller is not overly concerned about his defense being on the field too much.

"I'll take the scores when we can get them, any way we can get them," he said.

"I have noticed that college games are shorter, the number of plays are fewer, and I think the idea of your defense being out there longer is not as significant as one short year ago."

    Green thumb

Tiller likes the way the new Bermuda grass turf has held up after four consecutive games in Ross-Ade Stadium.

"It's holding up very well," he said. "It's a very good surface. It's an honest surface. By that I mean I don't see much, if any, slippage out there.

"The only thing I don't like about it, is I wish the grass was a little longer. Because we don't have the fastest team we've ever had at Purdue. I don't think our team is slow, but we have had faster teams."

Here is a very interesting excerpt from an article in today's South Bend Tribune involving CB Terrail Lambert and his cousin, Lorenzo Booker of FSU. For you non-ND folks who might be interested, Lambert was the hero of the MSU game with two interceptions toward the end, one for a TD. He was named Bronco Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week by the Football Writers Association. Here is the excerpt:

Lo Booker helping out a Domer, even if he is a cousin, to what is the world comming? :) But it's always nice to have family to fall back on in tough times, I'm glad Booker was there for his cuz. I'm also glad that Lo went to FSU, he's had a mediocre career for F$U.
