I don't mind playing Navy, they were pretty pathetic before Paul Johnson went there and revived the program. They are now a legit opponent, just as Air Force has been over the years we played them. Their style of offense makes them difficult but they had already lost 4 games when we played them so it's not like nobody could figure out how to stop them. Ga. Tech runs the same offense, and while I can't say I follow ACC football I don't remember hearing ACC teams calling for Ga. Tech to change their style of offense because they don't like to play teams that cut block. As Kelly said learn to deal with it. Besides Joel would lose his interest in ND football if Navy wasn't on the schedule.
I will say though that playing 2 service academy teams like we do in 2016, we play both Army and Navy is too much and IMHO poor scheduling. Granted they are both Div1 in football but still I don't favor playing Army ever again. I am embarassed also by the presence of UMass on our schedule.
Ahhh, Doc. Now you are talking! I would rather ND played Harvard instead of UMASS! ( Lucky ND didn't play Mich State this year!!)
The ACc agreement has placed pressure on our scheduling. With 3 away ACC games next year we have only 2 other away games one of which is Stanford. We need to schedule some teams that won't require a return visit. UMass fits that bill. The reason why you're embarrassed Doc is that UMass is the second cupcake on our home schedule. We also play Texas.
Last time Notre Dame played Michigan State they kicked the **** out of them. Is that all you got, my consiglierie?
Yeah, MSU went out of it's way to schedule toughies....Jacksonville St, Eastern Michigan and Wyoming. Since the only big boy that the scheduled (Ore.) beat them by 19, they're lucky they have only 1 loss.
Let see who was the only team to beat Mich State last year and keep them from the Nat'l Championship game? Oh yeah it was Notre Dame and it wasn't even a close game and Notre Dame was only slightly better than average last year. ND has won 4 out of the last 5 with Mich State ..even Cholly knocked them off the year he was fired. Their only win was the year that the B10 refs failed to notice that the clock had expired when they kicked their wining FG. Same thing that they did to Penn State this year in the Ohio State game.
Vandy needed a miracle to beat UMass. Of course, Vandy got their ass kicked by Temple. We never know how these things are going to work out with 3rd tier opponents.
