    Before I arrived on campus, but probably while Sid was there, Nick Eddy apparently got caught taking the cigarette machine from his dorm's basement up to his room and rifled it for the cash and butts. He was thrown out of school. Fortunately it was second semester. He was back on the field the following fall. :)
    Regarding Floyd, as I recall on of his "incidents" occurred while he was home on vacation. I don't think it's the school's business to discipline him for something that happened when he was at home.

    Sid,

    My question was valid and still is. If my kid was there and cheated on a test and violated the honor code, would he be allowed to stay?

    Nick was my next door neighbor in Keenan Hall. His roommate was Arunas Vasys. He didn't take the machine to his room, but he did rifle it. He was a good guy who was hanging around with the wrong crowd, even though that crowd consisted of ND students. I think that most of that crowd eventually got kicked out or left school for one reason or another.

    George, I was not judging his punishment one way or the other. I was just saying it seemed like folks thought he was getting a break because he is a football player. I haven't been around campus for about 13 years, but IMO that would not be the case. Discipline at ND historically has been blind to the student's extracurricular affiliations. I don't know that the school is more or less lenient than in the past. Like Mike said, we can recall incidents from 50 years ago where the discipline was similar to what we see today.

    LOL...didn't know it was possible for ND Students to be part of a "wrong" crowd!! :)

    BTW: Picked up a commit today from Nick Watkins, kid from Bishop Dunne in Dallas, very good player. His team mate is Payton Hendrix who the Irish also want very badly.

    <t>The Watkins kid is a great pick-up!<br/>
    <br/>
    Not only is Watkins and elite athlete, he also fits the mold of what Notre Dame looks for in it’s corners – long, lean corners that can run. At 6’1&180 lbs with great speed, Watkins easily fits the bill.</t>

    Sid what do you think about the ND/Purdue game going to Lucas Oil? Seems like it would benefit Purdue just as much as it would ND. It would give them highly visible game in Indy and a chance to bring as many fans as ND would to what ordinarily would be a ND home game where they would be a minority.

    Also showcases their program to Indiana athletes as much as it does ND.

    From what I know though Indy and Lucas Oil is a great place to hold a game.

    Terry, ND and Purdue played at the old RCA Dome (predecessor of Lucas Oil) in 1984, the first football game and second sports event in the stadium. I was there. I'm pretty sure that it was a Purdue home game. Tim Brown was a freshman. I recall that he fumbled the opening kickoff. Purdue recovered and took it in for a TD. We lost 23-21.

    I would love to see it happen, but I'm not sure it would meet the litmus test for a location for the Shamrock Series. I can confirm that Lucas Oil is a great venue for a football game. It was built to be fan friendly.

    <t>Well I knew I didn't feel good about this game. Simply put, if we don't find a way to stop Navy's run game we are going to lose. Hopefully, Diaco will make some adjustments during the half or we can forget it. Navy is not making any mistakes and we are killing ourselves with turnovers and penalties. It's 2010 all over again. Unbelievable.</t>

    It's very difficult to beat a team when they commit 0 penalties and win the turnover battle 2-0. Survive and move on.

    Hat's off to the Navy, they just kept coming at us in wave after wave. I don't know what the Navy Coach was thinking with that last play call. They had been killing us all day on the FB dive, the QB Duck, the pitch. Why they thought they needed to try and trick us I'll never know. If they run their offense they had a better than 50/50 chance to make the play.

    Defense played like they had never seen the Navy before, this same offense we stuffed the last 2 years. Granted this years Navy team is different and so is our defense but still they just stuffed our defense.

    On offense, it was great to see the Folston kid breakout. While GAIII had some good runs, he is way behind the Folston kid and Cam McDaniel. Sure when he breaks out into the open he's gone but that's not happening on every play.

    Anyway it as always it's good to get the win, I wish we'd had another game like Air Force but we didn't. They kept talking about BCS possibilties and I just don't see us having enough juice in the remaining games to make our way into the top 14. Pitt is not a great team, today's win likely has us hanging on at #25 at best. Then an off week and while BYU and Stanford are very good teams, Stanford could be a 2 loss team by the time we play them and BYU will be a tough game and hopefully we win of course but again unless we put up a huge win we won't get that much of a bounce.

    Did anyone else notice that our kickoff coverage was abysmal? We gave Navy exactly what they wanted on the last kickoff, the ball at the 50 yd. line, plus there were at least two other long returns. If we don't kick the ball through the end zone, we are in trouble.

    <t>Survive and move on is right. As the game went on I became convinced we were never gonna stop the option so I just told myself that we'll just have to outscore them. We did, barely. I don't know why but Navy always seems to play better in South Bend that at wherever we use for their home games. <br/>
    <br/>
    It's a win but as usual we don't get much out of it. If we win by 40 it's too much and if with narrowly win its not enough to satisfy the critics. As usual though, we will get some of our players injured by the way Navy plays. We did.<br/>
    <br/>
    The offense was great. Remember what I said about Folston? He's the man.</t>

    Is Navy too physical for us? Should we drop them for that? I am so tired of this chop block complaining. It legal. They have used it since the Revolutionary war.

    They are tough SOBs.

    The same old Navy. They're smaller than any high school team in this area and slower than most, but their incredible discipline allows them to play error free and execute to perfection...

    1. Folston is here to stay: a true break-away running back.
    2. Ben Councell played the best game of his career.
    3. Koyack has joined the offense.
    4. I laughed out loud when Navy ran the trick play at the end of the game. I know from bitter experience that there are some games that the kids can't lose, but the coach can lose it if he tries to be too clever...
    5. Terry Hanratty's kid played well.
    6. Glad this one is over...

    Not much more to say about your win here this morning, but it certainly appeared to me, that whoever had the ball last, was going to win the game.

    Notre Dame continues to struggle at times, but I see improvement, and you are winning games. You can not ask for much more than that, especially in November.

    1. We now have two real good RBs in Folston & McDaniel

    2. If he can stay healthy he can be a big help

    3. Offense is much more lethal with Koyack and Niklas on the field at the same time

    4. Amen to that.

    5. Connor Hanratty is one hell of a run blocker. Many of the big runs went right off of his block. Watt does not have this kid's burst.

    <r>Kelly's thoughts on Folston:<br/>

    <QUOTE><s>
    </e></QUOTE> He missed a big hole in the right side of the line when he did that. That was about all he did wrong last night. <br/>
    <br/>
    guess he's tired of Atkinson constantly trying to bounce it outside and getting nowhere. I agree, Folston is the real deal.<br/>
    <br/>
    We have our back. Atkinson needs to keep returning kickoffs and play when the right situation appears. <br/>
    <br/>
    If the Bryant kid is suppose to be better than Folston, we have a nice set of RB's for the next couple of years.<br/>
    <br/>
    I really thought this would be a great year for Carlisle. I was wrong. Great kid but...</r>
