I know that. Sorry about what's happened. You know the old saying, Act like you've been there? Well, we've been there, and we were "there" for a lot of years. All that time, you and the brothers didn't rub it in. Now is the time for us to return the favor by our respectful silence.
Sorry Tim, probably best I watch curling rather than football on future Saturdays. Sid, go ahead and enjoy it. Given Hoke's comments last year and the chicken dance music after last year's game, all of us M fans just need to learn to eat **** while still smiling Goodnight all.
:? What a day I don't even care that I finished last in the contest... Who the heck is McNeese you know that school that was within minutes of taking out AJ...... Sorry AJ but I thought if it was a day of upsets then why not a school no one knew existed. ///// and then there was Pat Hayden.... Clueless and Classless.... hope SC gets some actions against them for his actions on the field today. and you know there is always baseball... boys in blue are looking good as are those Angels... freeway series..... you never know
ND <t>Bobda,<br/> <br/> No you're right. If the tables were turned I would have expected a little more respect too. No excuse, just got caught up in the moment.</t>
I missed that H.G. Wells book! Well, lets enjoy our victory and do so with out offending our friends here on the Skybox. If you want to do a chicken dance on Mich, do so over at NDNation or Irish Illustrated or Mike Franks or some other all ND board.
Before I go to bed and have sweet dreams of this game a few thoughts. 1. After the Rice game I figured Gardner would torch us for a lot of points and that the game would be high scoring first one to 40 wins. I never saw the great defense that we played tonight in the tea leaves. 2. Golson, what a great game. The best thing is that this offense can get better, some of the young guys had some drops. But guys like Carlisle, Fuller, Robinson, Brown, etc are going to get better as the year goes on and we can really look for more. 3. Running game. We really didn't run the ball very well tonight. I don't know what Mich was doing but they seemed to be all over our OL when we ran the ball. 4. Kyle Brindza ...what an asset. 5. The game could have been worse for Michigan, the pick six we had to give back and with all those turnovers we did get we didn't do a lot with them. 6. Man did we play a lot of young guys on defense who played very well. I'm liking Brian Van Gorder a lot.
We have not tackled like that, as a team, in more than 2 decades. No, I'm not kidding or being hyperbolic. Our offense has a lot of skill and speed. Our defense has even more speed. According to the ND radio on Sirius, we started 7 freshman in this game on defense? Holy ****. I still don't like Kelly's play calling. We're up 28-0, solidly in Michigan territory and we're throwing the ball on 3rd and a foot.. WTF? That isn't Monday morning Quarterbacking, stick with me on this. Think back of every god damned horrible thing that's happened to us over the past 20 years. Now ask yourself, could you see Brian Kelly having to answer the question at a presser 'why were you throwing the ball with your 1st team QB in the game while up 4 TDs, deep in Michigan territory?' It would be like the Bob Davie years all over again.. Jesus, this dude recruits big, fast kids who can hit. It should be noted, we had zero problem covering Funches in man with our Linebacker..but we couldn't cover Funches with our DBs... I found that interesting. I also found it interesting that BVG didn't rely on it or become a slave to it. He continued to mix defensive calls, ergo, Michigan could not set him up... I like our offensive talent, but hate our offensive play calling. I love both on defense... Bobda, you're a credit to any side that is lucky enough to have you. The fact that Michigan gets to claim you as one of theirs is just one more reason I hate Michigan. They don't deserve you, but you press on holding the torch high. Better days are ahead.
1. Kelly claimed that the Irish played 19 true/red-shirt freshmen against Michigan, mostly on defense. The "experts" had assumed that all of the graduation losses would hurt the defense, but now we see the truth: they were replaced by faster and more aggressive players. 2. Coach Brian Van Gorder appears to be the missing piece of the puzzle on the Irish coaching staff. He and Harry Hiestand have made a HUGE difference in the team's performance. 3. Devin Gardner couldn't run this time, because LBs Joe Schmidt and Jaylon Smith play sideline-to-sideline at warp speed. 4. I love Max Redfield from Mission Viejo HS. Even without Collinsworth, the Irish safeties are a great group. Every week they play faster and faster as they gain experience, and when in doubt; they hit people. 5. Other freshmen standouts today included Kolin Hill, Andrew Trumbetti, and Drue Tranquill. This group of 18 year-olds raced over, around and through the much older Michigan Oline. 6. Amir Carlisle has found his brier patch at slot receiver. He was all but unstoppable against Michigan. https://mtc.cdn.vine.co/r/videos_h264high/DD084FC5D71120219090850615296_SW_WEBM_14100590412726c01f54e35.mp4?versionId=oE7GJd5JBmpAAkP1Y1.leoAMjWANFmBV 7. Once Golson calmed down, the outcome was never in doubt. I didn't mind the three time-outs in the first quarter. The coach has to do what he has to do... 8. Our Oline appears to be solid. 9. Kelly's offense takes what the defense gives him. Today the defense bet against Carlisle and Fuller. Big mistake: those are our two fastest receivers...
To piggyback on Jim and Corey's expert analysis..... Big recruiting turnout last night. Perfect timing. I commented to my sons during the game that sure tackling stretches the field out in front of you. As an Irish team goes, that was as good as it gets. Earlier this week I said Golson is the difference and for that reason ND covers. Same with Jaylon Smith on defense. Like Benjamin Moore paint, he can cover up a lot of mistakes. Three new defensive stars born last night: Max Redfield, Daniel Cage and Kolin Hill. Speed kills. ( See Oregon for illustration ) 0-Line is solid but still a work in progress. I am a Steve Elmer fan but feel he is out of position at RT because he does not have the footwork... yet. But he is a beast at guard. Would not be shocked to see him moved inside... it could turn a good line into a great one. Brindza is a huge factor. No turnovers?
I still don't get it why Max Redfields hit was a penalty. Sure it was a big hit and he laid out Gardner. But Gardner was turning and starting to pursue Shumate, he became a DB once the INT was made. But many people including ND fans say that he's still protected and Redfield was fairly flagged. I don't get it, I always thought that once the INT is made the whole offense becomes defensive players and they need to have their heads up because they are fair game. You have to watch Joe Schmidt's post game interview. I love that kid. I still remember JO'Co telling us that we'd be glad we got him as a preferred walkon...and I am. Everybody said he was just a place holder for Nyles Morgan this year, I don't think so! Morgan is going to have to earn his way on to the field the old fashioned way.
Great win for Notre Dame. Everything seemed to come together in this game. I am still sorry that this series is ending. I don't understand hating a team so much that you don't want the opportunity to beat the hell out of them again. :?
What I miss??....You guys beat up on a average Michigan team...Doc breaks out the good stuff....Tim and Bobda obviously put on a mini ISIS show......and now there's apologies abound.... AND I MISSED IT!! DAMMIT!! This is the time of year we appreciate this board the most I'll have to say...I wonder if Andy, JB, Murray, and the Reverend are having this much fun?
DIANE!! That's what we call TIME MANAGEMENT here in the motherland! No reason to over work yourself till the late rounds....ALI used to do it all the time! Besides, when we won the NC in '94....Kansas blew a 2 point conversion to beat us with 4 seconds left.....they had bad time management.....
ND <t>You can say what you want about Joe Schmidt but he played his heart out in this game. What a great kid. It's great to have him on our team.</t>
Naaaaahhhhhhhh..... Hell, NU beat 'em last year in the big house with a 9-4 team.....you guys didn't do anything special last night.
Yeah, despite 8 opportunities a year not one Big Ten team has been able to shut out M since 1984. But come to think of it, they're just BT teams...nothing special.
