Was it the Ohio State game he played with a broken leg and and a dislocated shoulder? :)

We're doomed. We don't have anyone on our side as analytical and driven as Ace. Unfortunately, all of our people have lives.

I posted the article because I thought is was well written and complimentary of ND's offensive strengths and assumed that the Irish contingent on this board might find it a little bit interesting to read how their team was viewed by an avid fan in the enemy's camp. Also, I was curious if those here who follow ND closely thought the writer's opinions were sound or not.

I thought it was a pretty good analysis. The only missing ingredient is, of course, the opponent. Kelly will approach Michigan much differently than he did Rice. Remember, he had all summer to plan on showing some things for Rice, that will set up other plays for Michigan.

There's just too many wild cards to predict very much in this one. We're still learning about Van Gorder and his defense, as an example. We also have a sneaking suspicion that the backup QB may be even better than Golson, with the backup running backs also being more talented than the starter. Hopefully the Michigan game will give us a little more clarity, but that analysis wasn't too shabby.

Just a gut feeling, but I will be surprised if Michigan will get out of South Bend with a victory?

Bobda, I only read part of it and decided it was too long. I assumed that it was pro-Michigan propaganda, so I resorted to a sarcastic post. Obviously I was wrong. I apologize. For my penance, I will read the report in its entirety.

Well this might be the last game against Michigan but Ohio State will be on the Notre Dame schedule in 2022 and 2023!! Bring on the Buckeyes!

Bobda, I read the report and agree that it is a very good analysis. It helps me to look for things I might not otherwise notice, like how our OL holds Michigan's pass rush and how our receivers are able to create separation from Michigan's DBs. In the future, I will not comment on anything late at night when my mental faculties are even more lame than normal. I will wait until I am awake and rested......and have taken the time to read what I am commenting on.
    Me too. :)

The timing of the announcement of ND scheduling OSU was a very artful way by Swarbrick to flip the bird to Brandon and a lot more clever and biting than the playing of the chicken dance after last year's game.

Sid, no apology is needed. I was a little too cranky last night.

Don, I think the problem for M is that we have not been a good road team the last few years. The optimistic portion of my brain tells me we have a legitimate shot at winning since ND's style of offense matches up well with the strengths of our defense. M has fared poorly the past few years against teams that play physical, smash-mouth football, e.g. MSU, OSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kan. St. ND has the tools to maul us but given Kelly's coaching style, they usually attack us with a spread offense that emphasizes the pass over the run. That works somewhat to our advantage as M defense usually has the speed to defend the spread but has lacked the physicality to hold up against teams that win by pounding you. The pessimistic side of my brain tells me to recall how M self destructed in past games at SB.

    Bobda,

Always prefer to root for the B1G Ten Teams, but this time I think Notre Dame will prevail.

Question is how many confidence points do I allow for the Irish?

Good article here on the game, specifically Mattison's defense. Also note that according to this article Tommy Rees will be back on campus in January to take a job as a Graduate Assistant.

    http://irish.nbcsports.com/2014/09/04/rees-discussing-the-the-challenge-from-mattisons-defense/

As I said earlier in Tommy's losses it wasn't that we couldn't move the ball vs Mich and Mattison's defense it was the turnovers.

Well it turns out that I was reading too much into Rees back at ND, it's that Tommy is going to be a GA somewhere, not necessarily ND.
