I truly thought ND was going to lose when the SD St Rb was heading into the endzone and somehow as he was going down at the goalline he lost the ball. He scores and I truly think the game was over. I dunno but that leaves a ton of questions about ND IMHO.
Tom, I think that is the most positive thing that came out of the SDSU game, that Clausen is fully healthy and that he may be the real deal...I say may be because 1 game is 1 game. The thing that I saw against SDSU was that Clausen is also emerging as the leader of the team on the offensive side, he's only a sophmore but he's showing a lot of fire on the sidelines, and he was one of the guys who helped Robert Hughes off the field. Plus through all the injuries and sacks last year I never heard anything but positive stuff out of him. But the negative is he is cursed with the Clausen hair. Terry
I guess it gets back to how you were watching the game. Sure SDSU would have taken a 2 score lead at that point, but at the same time, ND went on to score 2 TDs after that anyway (that would have put them ahead regardless) and ended the game with ND running out the clock on the SDSU 9 yard line. You can wring your hands about this loss ND fans and I do believe there is cause for concern. At the same time, take a look at the drive charts and you will see what I am talking about. This is/was a team that was looking for any confidence. It was a horrifically young team last year (Thanks Ty) that got dumped on all season long...and here we are 4 quarters into the new season and that team is already being shat on by its followers.. Checking the drive summary. We started with a punt-punt in our first 2 possessions. -Then we have a 36 yard drive that ends with a missed FG. -Next possession was a 74 yard drive that resulted in the phantom fumble on the SDSU 5 yard line. (at this point, we have now pissed away 10 points) -Next possession Clausen throws an INT off the top hole in the 8 on Kamara's jersey. (SDSU scores a TD 2 plays later. Now we have missed 10 points and given them 7) -Next drive punt. -Next drive, Clausen misses a WIDE OPEN Tate in the back of the end zone. ND decides to kick a FG but muffs the snap (We have now pissed away as few as 13 and as many as 17 points in this half alone!) -Next drive, TD Irish. Assuming the Irish don't make the big mistake at the exact wrong time, ND could have taken a 20 or 24-0 lead into halftime. (yes, that's a zero, SDSU scored on a 2 play drive set up by a turnover in ND territory) You all would have been happy with that and Dave would still be having doubts... but wait, there's more...(and it's not a set of steak knives) in the 2nd half. 1st drive, punt. 2nd drive, Clausen brain farts and Kamara quits on the route... the result is an INT in the end zone... Even with the bad read, if Kamara runs that route its an easy 6 out jumping the vertically challenged DB. (we have now pissed away 27 to 31 points..wow these numbers are adding up, aren't they?) Also, SDSU mounts their one real drive of the game after this and scores a TD. 3rd drive, Armando Allen gets knocked the eff out and fumbles. 4th drive, punt...the team is clearly searching for identity now given all that they have given away freely to SDSU. 5th drive, Touchdown Irish. 6th drive, Touchdown Irish. 7th drive, ND ends game driving and killing the clock on SDSU's 9 yard line. ND won this game 21-13... If ND just makes the plays in front of them (no hypothetical play calls or woulda coulda shoulda).. If they just execute the play in front of them, this game is 48-13 at the closest and most likely 52-7. This team needs confidence. They are in the position to make those plays, they need to step up and make them.
filling my half full glass <t>Now you can see.. We threw 2 INTs (one in their end zone and one in our territory), we lost 2 fumbles (one on their 5 and one at midfield), we also missed 2 FGs. We did all that, pissed away roughly 27 to 31 points in real red zone scoring opportunities... and we still won the game.<br/> <br/> Excuse me while I get back to the matters at hand.<br/> <br/> Go Irish<br/> Beat Wolverines</t>
Great comments, Corey. That puts things in the proper perspective. Add me to your glass half full club.
Hey we've only made one field goal all season and the Miami coach is still upset about it! 2/3 extra points, pretty good gipper.
C'mon now Gip, I like our record a whole helluva lot better than theirs.....but I'm with you on one thing - never b!tch about a victory. It's the only thing that matters.[/quote] Hey Terry, many of the Gator faithful are complaining bitterly because we won ugly 26-3 against Miami. Go figure. I think the next time we lose a game I'm staying away for about a month.  From the Gator board I mean.
Never a doubt Bobda.....the politically correct M clothing line in C'bus will continue to fly off the shelves as it always has, just because it's M. We are not the least bit fooled by your deceitful efforts at mediocrity.....by November, they'll be running the RichRod like a well-oiled machine and have our poor Buckeye defenders chasing people in space all over the field with sickening futility! I'm looking forward to a great game from both the Irish and the Blue...
I'm afraid we all have caught on to Bobda's style........Lure them into overconfidence with sky-is-falling whining about how bad his team is and how much we (insert team name here) are going to trounce them. Then, when the whistle blows M proceeds to take us to the woodshed. It may not have worked in recent years with OSU but it sure as heck has worked for M's games with ND. Nonetheless, Bobda's witty and sharp commentaries are big reasons why I look forward to this game every year.
ND?SDSU <r>Corey,<br/> <br/> After reading your analysis of the game and all the should have beens, I somehow feel a little more optimistic........well....damn, it's gone already!<br/> <br/> Back to feeling lousy about our chances this season...... <E></E></r>
Au contraire my Tex-Irish friend! The men from DS are alive and well, have become a cultural icon and play to SRO at the best dives in Ohio! As proof, and with all due respect to my bro-in-arms Bobda, I offer the following little ditty which is at the top of everybody's playlist during November - that said, Go Blue! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UwGXMryTbwE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UwGXMryTbwE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
"To hell with Michigan" At least that's what Weis said back in April according to the Free Press and I do remember that as accurate. I wonder if the Wolverines remember?
No offence intended, but will anyone score in this game? Both offenses have struggled early. I like ND going forward but you can't feel good, as a fan, seeing your team struggle against what would widely be considered a lesser opponent. However, as has been pointed out here, this condition is not exclusive to Notre Dame and you don't have to remind Michigan about struggling against lesser opponents. I actually like ND in this game as Michigan will take a while to fully incorporate their offense, IMO.
Well he did say it, doubt if it makes any difference. Here's video proof, you have to watch for about a minute but there it is...Charlie rather calmly saying "to hell with Michigan" Here's his exact words, as uttered addressing a ND crowd at the Blue/Gold Game Luncheon.
Alllrighhhhht, Now that the warmth of that South Bend love is finally starting to kick in, let me throw a log on the fire with a little video/musical interlude: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLOtDB1SzSA
A yes the travails of a first year QB behind an inexperienced line. I wonder what would happen if the shoe were on the other foot    I can't wait until Sat. to find out. Oh, and really folks, what would fire you up more playing against a team whose coach said "to hell with" your team or playing against a team that smoked ya 38 to nothing last year :?:
At the 1:15 in the video, the intercepting M dude did the same thing as the Husky dude did this weekend. Was there a flag?
