Certainly a lot of negative karma amongst ND fans this week, sometimes I think I'm reading about us playing the 2005 USC squad, and not Ga.Tech. Most of the guys from the various ND websites are picking Ga. Tech win by 7-14 points. Vannie has it Ga.Tech by 14, Mike Frank Ga.Tech by 7, Tim O'Malley Ga.Tech by 6, Pete Sampson has the Irish by 3, although he admits he had the Irish as losers in his preseason picks. Everybody seems to be conceding that our defense has no hope of stopping the Ga.Tech offense. Hopefully the team believes in itself more than the fans and guru's!
ND <t>My problem in trying to be confident about this game is based on starting a new QB that we just haven't seen enough of to know what to expect. If we still had Zaire I would said we would win because I think we can outscore them. I just don't know if young Mr Kiser can do this yet. Thus, I'm just not confident enough to say we will win.</t>
ND <t>Have to admit, I didn't think we could hold GT under 30. Defense played great. Take that triple option and get the hell out of SB!!!</t>
It was hard before the game with so many people saying we'd get shredded by the triple option, that BVG doesn't know how to play it. Well other than the garbage time points we stuffed to those guys. Kizer didn't look like an All-American but he looked pretty solid, and what can you say about CJ Prosise, the kid can motor and he's not afraid to stick his nose up in there and get the tough yards. We left some points out there today, could have scored 40. Solid win.
ND <t>Well now, let's see what the gameday crew had to say in their way of predictions on this game this morning:<br/> <br/> Kirk Herbstreet predicted a GT win. WRONG!<br/> <br/> Lee Corso predicted a GT win. WRONG!<br/> <br/> The country music singer who I have no idea is, predicted a GT win. WRONG!<br/> <br/> and the biggest dumbass of all, our favorite, Desmond Howard was VERY emphatic that this would be an absolute miserable day for the Irish D-Line.....WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! Can you be more stupid than he is? No, you can not! He hates ND in the worst way and will never miss a chance to pick against them. Well he can take his Heisman and shove it up his arse.<br/> <br/> The only one on the whole gameday crew who got it right was..The BEAR! He picked ND to win. Smart man, smart man!!!<br/> <br/> By the way, I had a couple of drinks before I put this post up but I'm still sober enogh to know that Desmond Howard is an idiot!!!</t>
What's up with this Yoon kid? We're stuck with him until 2019. He might be better playing on the DL.
My report card. Coaching: A+ Kelly's finest hour working with the young kids. Only blemish was Uncle Rico's prevent defense which led to two lightening quick scores late and actually put G Tech within range in a game that the Irish dominated for 55 minutes. QB: A+ Kizer played as well as we could have ever hoped for. RB: A Procise continues to amaze. The kid behind him threw a key block on a TD pass. WR: B+ Obviously deep and quick. Wish they could wake up Corey Robinson TE: C Better blocking than receiving yesterday. OL: A controlled the action. Stanley had a bad game with mental mistakes. K: C Got make those extra points but he has a new holder so he gets a pass P: A Very good with distance and hang time DL: A Made G Tech earn every yard and good pressure LB: A+ all over the place. There is nobody better than Jaylon Smith and Schmidt rose to the task CB: C and that may be too high. Got blown out on certain option plays and the coverage was very average against a lousy passing team, except for the 3rd quarter. S : B Really hit hard and worked well against the option. But the onne aspect of the Uncle Rico defense is soft in the deep middle and that showed again yesterday. ST: B Would have gotten an A except for that lousy performance on the first on side kick which they were prepared for.
Regarding special teams, I don't recall in the first three games that any KO that was fielded got past the 25. One did yesterday, but a penalty took it back inside the 20. So far, that's a heck of an improvement in KO coverage from recent past seasons.
George I think you were a little tough on the CBs. I'm not sure Tech even completed a pass in the first half. They were 8 out of 24 and the last TD to Skov was a LB missed coverage.
 This was a great win. The team was physically superior to Georgia Tech in every conceivable way... 1. DeShone Kizer - Wow. There are teams out there who would give almost anything to have Kizer at the controls. He has everything. It's a different offense with him in there, but in many ways it's a better offense, because it's the offense that Kelly loves to run anyway. 2. Drue Tranquill - The loss of Tranquill is huge. He was the hardest hitting Dback on ANY team that I saw this year. In the first half, BVD could use Greer Martini to stop the option and crash into the QB. He was flying around like a madman. Tranquill covered the pass to the back out of the backfield, leaving Martini to be completely evil with the option. When Tranquill went down on that celebration injury, it forced Martini into situations that he couldn't handle. GT discovered this in the final minute by accident, and it's a problem that BVD will have to solve in practice with another scheme. If he can't find another Tranquill; he'll have to replace Martini in certain situations. 3. OL - Wow. GT has a pretty good pass rush and they couldn't get near Kizer all day. If the OL gives him that much time again, he'll shred some defenses as he becomes more comfortable with Kelly's schemes. 4. Fuller - I wouldn't trade Will Fuller for any WR in America. He scores in every game regardless of who the QB is. 5. Linebackers - Jaylon Smith and Joe Schmidt are a dream team. Fast, physical and smart: Schmidt makes adjustments like a coach on the field and there were plays where Jaylon hit BOTH the QB and the TB on the same option play. 6. Yoon (PK) - I don't know about this kid. Sometimes he looks scared out there. 7. Who the hell is UMass?
