Terry, I was at that game. It was Brian's freshman year. We sat in the northeast corner, near the flagpole, in the lower half of the stadium. I'll never forget it. The southwest wind in our face was so biting that I had to turn my head away from the field between plays. My wife went to the JACC sometime during the 2nd quarter. At halftime I walked around to the opposite southwest corner, where the wind was at my back, and I was sheltered by the stadium wall. The game was a blowout, but I stayed to the end. That's when we had our lake cottage, a little more than an hour from campus, so it wasn't like we had a long drive ahead of us. My wife stayed inside for almost 3/4 of the game with thousands of other fans.

I also was at the famous "Snow Bowl" game vs. Penn State in 1992. That one wasn't as bitter cold as the 1991 Navy game, but the heavy flurries during the game gave it a blizzard-like feel.

re: Notre Dame vs. Navy with snow.

I believe that game was in 1996. not 1991. It was the last game for the old stadium and they expanded the place to it's present 80,000+ the following year. There was a light snow falling all day and it fell on our tailgate too. One thing that helped to keep us warm was the fact that there wasn't anyplace to sit down. Over the years, they had simply painted the numbers closer together to increase the seating capacity until they were only 12" apart. Everyone had to sit sideways...

    re: Blake Barnett

At Thanksgiving dinner today, I had a chance to have a long talk with Brendan about football. He knows Blake Barnett. They shared the same QB coach for awhile and they worked out together last summer on several occasions. He said that Barnett is a nice guy, but he also said he was a raw talent: tremendous natural athletic ability, but he's still learning how to play quarterback. Keep in mind, this was last summer and Barnett is still only a junior...

My Lord! I'm not a big guy, but when it was cold and everyone was wearing heavy coats, it was impossible to sit comfortably. That's why I like sitting in the newer part of the stadium, the so-called upper deck. The seats are comfortable and easily accessed.

Sid I'm like you. I prefer the upper section because of the extra seating room.
