I absolutely love JOCO and George's week in reviews. Funny side note that I shared with my dad earlier. While bitching back and forth with Oliver on Twitter (EDSBS) we both came to the same conclusion... I hate this team (his is Florida). They couldn't be more frustrating. Bad is one thing. Talented and underachieving is just hard to watch. I'm cranky and in pain, I'm going to finally try to sleep now.
I must have missed all that great line play esp by Golic. We were stuffed constantly on the run game esp up the middle where Golic was. And pass blocking...well since BC was only rushing 2 ... I'm not saying the OL sucked they battled but it wasn't a great game for them.
BC's defensive scheme in the second half was brilliant. They overplayed the run on first down and then in 2nd and 3rd and long they dropped 8 or 9 defenders. We played right into their hands by running on 1st down over and over again. (Fit perfectly into the definition of insanity.) Our late winning FG was set up by a drive in which we began throwing on first down against the run stacked defense. BTW what a difference between punters. BC's was really good constantly pinning us inside the 10 yd. line. Meanwhile we'd just kick it into the endzone and net about 29 yds. Thanks Turk Did Tyler Eifert play in the second half?
ND <t>No comments on the game other tan to say I'm really surprised Kelly didn't put Crist in. I believe he could have done a little something with his feet to extend a lot of those drives.<br/> <br/> I feel really bad for Jonas Gray. He was having a nice season and if that ACL is torn it might effect his draft status. Hate to see a kid like this have such bad luck.</t>
Any bets on whether or not we'll see that defense when we play Stanford? Unless Kelly plays Hendrix a lot or even Crist he will have no answer for that defense.
 He had no answer for that defense against Pitt or Southern Cal or... The word is out. Like a power hitter who can't hit the curveball, that's all we're going to see. Every team the Irish play with Tommy at QB will do whatever is necessary to put Floyd on an island and dare Rees to run with the ball...
If you are a premium member of Irish Illustrated you should go read Pristers article. Here is an excerpt, sort of addresses the comment that Kelly made in defending playing Rees, if you saw his press conference he retorted with 12-2 as a starter, you guys know that don't you?
I agree in principle but we have just beaten four poor teams some of our shortcomings were camouflaged by sheer talent. That won't be the case this week.
re: 12-2 as a starter Kelly is knocking over a straw man. Nobody said that Rees couldn't beat Navy or Purdue or Pitt or BC. All he has to do for them is hand the ball off without fumbling and throw toss-ups to his All-American receiver. Kelly needs to address the real concerns of ND fans. We're saying that his wins over the top teams are going to be rare with THIS QB running THIS offense. Why doesn't he either change the QB or adjust the offense? His answer appears to indicate a complete lack of confidence in all three backup QBs, which guarantees that at least two of those three will transfer, and he never even considers making modifications to his offense, which dooms the Irish to becoming Georgia Tech North...
This isn't Cincinnati and we don't give two shits about winning the Big East. Beating ACC teams is suppose to be an afterthought. I still hold faith, but it's diminishing.
Kelly has said Spring will be equal opportunity for all qbs. This could bring Golson into the picture. I would really look forward to that. Strong arm, runs makes plays.
