I could be wrong, but I don't recall that Kelly walked out of the post-game press conference because of that edgy exchange.

<t>I'm watching the Wake/BC game online now. I'm even more convinced we will kick their butts. Of course the team will have to battle the BC fans as well who are known for spitting, throwing cans, bottles and batteries and just being general assess at home. <br/>

    Go Irish!</t>

This Irish offense is terrible so far, nobody is playing well, Adams had a good run that was about it so far.

Well excellent drive to go ahead 14-10. Wimbush so far is a terrible Passer. Adams big runs are the only only plays we seem to have

28-13 Wimbush finally makes a play in the passing game, but it's the running game and the defense that have us out front.

Another running TD for Wimbush, no denying he can run the football, but the play before he airmailed a wide open receiver. If he ever figures out the passing game this offense could be what we thought it might be, but right now it's one trick pony

Can't complain about running for 500 yds and scoring 49 points, but they need to figure out how to get Wimbush going in the passing game.

As I said Bill it's tough to complain about this win, but realistically even though the running game stats and the score are impressive. Our passing game was non existent today. We are not going to have a great season without a passing game, sure against a weak squad like BC we can do it but the better teams on our schedule will just line up and dare us to throw the ball, that's what got us beat by Georgia.

But I'll take the win! :)

Just a few thoughts about today's game
    1. Not all the problems with the passing game are on Wimbush. Our receivers aren't getting separation.
    2. If I never see that flanker screen play again it won't be too soon.
    3. That kid who kicked off for BC has one hell of a foot. At first I thought he had a strong wind at his back but he kicked it over the end line in both directions.
    4. Last year I thought game after game we physically faded in the second half. Not so this year.

<t>Well I kept waiting and waiting to see the BC team I had seen on video that played a hideous game against Wake Forest to show up and finally at the end of the 3rd Qtr, there they were. They certainly looked like a different team until then. After that it was all over. <br/>
    <br/>
You're right about the passing game Terry, where are our receivers?</t>

Wimbush is a throwback QB. He reminds me of the vintage option QBs of the 70's and 80's who could run but threw like they had a broken arm.

We are spoiled after watching Kizer's pinpoint accuracy. His runnng ability is hiding the effects of really average passing skills.

Gipper is right on point about the conditioning. And about the flanker screen, which never works.

I commented to others with me that #7 was killing our right tackle on the pass rush and that the only way to slow him down was to run right at him. I guess the OC was listening; as soon as they started taking the attack to him you never heard his name again.

That's my cue. Can you say Tony Rice? His career passing statistics were anemic by today's standards, but he QB'd his '88 team to the national championship. I like the kid. I'm confident his passing game will come around. Meanwhile, I'm excited about the running game, which so far (key words) reminds me of to Ara's and Lou's teams and on Saturday did something that's never been done before at ND, producing two 200-yard rushers, one of whom is the QB. I also am excited about the much-improved conditioning, which has provided 4 quarters of solid effort on both sides of the ball.

One game at a time. Goal: 1-0 on Saturday vs. MSU.

Side note: Based on the amount of red in the stadium at the GA game, I'm guessing that 25-30% of ND fans are whores and traitors who will sell out to the competition for a price, similar to Judas Iscariot. I don't care what the reason or the price is. It's inexcusable. It's hard to identify them, but if I ever run into one, I'll let them know in no uncertain terms how I feel. Twice they've embarrassed the university on the national stage. It will take me a long time, if ever, to get over it.

    Sid,

I will not disagree with you as to the importance of leadership at QB as a opposed to pure passing skill. I sense he has more leadership on display right now than perhaps Kizer had last year.

Wimbush reminds me a lot of Pat White, a fabulous athlete who had a strong arm but never really developed as a passer. Wimbush has a strong arm, it's not his arm that is holding him back, it's a lot of things and I expect progress to be slow to tell you the truth.

As far as the ND traitors, there are a lot of reasons none of which will satisfy Sid that's for sure. It's been discussed a lot on all the ND boards. The bottom line is that ND diehards say they would never sell their tickets to another schools fan no matter what the price. They'd rather eat them and have them go unused if they couldn't sell them to another ND fan.

    Excellent point, George. I agree.

One further thought. I am not unconcerned about the passing game. He needs to improve. Today's game requires it. In '88, we ran over the opposition game after game with a steamroller offensive line. The Georgia game showed that our OL is not in the same zip code as that one. Our attack must be more balanced. I'm hoping that our much-improved running game eventually will allow him to relax in the pocket and successfully check down to the open receivers. I'm sure they're working on it as we speak.
