Jif you're embarassing yourself here, you know nothing about Notre Dame football.

    1) Academic standards are just fine, our players are decent students from high school, some even great students. It's not academic standards that are hurting us. 2) Charlie has done a great job recruiting. He has 2 full classes in the bag and both were rated in the top 10 in the nation, the current years class is currently ranked #1.

Maybe you need to update your knowledge of ND football beyond 1940-50 before you start trying to make some conclusions.

Ive been hearing the same war cry for years now. Fire the coach...kids dont play to win..fans are sitting on their hands. Can it possibly be the kids are good students who cant play ball?

It's common amongst college football fans jif, maybe if you still followed college football you'd already know that.

At Texas when Royal retired in 1976, we went through a lot of coaches who weren't very good till we hit Mack Brown and finally won another Nat'l Championship and that is with consistently good recruiting and low academic standards. At Southern Cal they went through several coaches after Robinson and McKay had left for the NFL and they had great recruiting and low academic standards, during that time they lost to ND 13 straight years. Then they got lucky and Pete Carroll showed up, you remember him don't you?

You've got to have the right coach, sure recruiting is important but without the right coach and staff the talent just gets wasted.

Weiss started his first season off on fire! Probably because he had my blessing!..if the talent held up....? What happened? No speed no D and Clausen really stinks.

:D  8) Krebsie happens to be right.....Weis is a total bust and the worst of all recent head coaches at ND.

The three years have yielded far below subpar records, even with Brady Quinn at the helm and a sprinkling of other front runners.

ND pullled the trigger too quickly by giving Weis a long term juicy contract that will come back and bite them in the ass and wallet.

The story about a #1 recruiting class next season are shallow and innocous since ND has enjoyed top recruiting classes that have dissappointed in their performance.

I know Miami is on a downslide due to the incredibly inept Larry Coker's regime.....BUT....ND has been in the doldrums for so long that a coaching change will not rectify the program soon.

Look at Urban Meyer.....you think he's a good coach?.....WELL....maybe yes and maybe not......he won the NC with Zook's players....and this year he's got 3 losses even with Superman at QB.

Zook a bad coach?......NO.....he's taken Illinois steadily on the uprise and defrocked Ohio State as an NC pretender.

Spurrier a bad coach......NO......he can do and will do wonders at South Carolina....a couple of years away from greatness.

Tuberville, Richt, Rodriguez,Mack, Myers, Carroll and at least a dozen other head coaches are far better at it than Weis if you look back at their beginnings and W-L records.

Just look at Schiano.....taking over a Rutgers team that was the second worst team in D1 after Temple.....and see what he has done with far inferior talent.....then contrast that with Fulmer at Tenn.....a guy who just can't get it done no matter how good a talent base he gets.

Nutt is also another example, Callahan yet another for the naysayers.

I would say, if I could rank Weis as a D1 coach.....he would be in the bottom 5 the last three years.

And, next season expect more of the same......a struggle at best.

Jif, you may wish to dial it down a little or someone may be flying to the mini state to perform a root canal on you without the benefit of anesthesia.
