Bleacher Report has a video up of him making his "offical" commitment, it's way out there IMHO. I personally don't get it why kids do this, or their parents allow it. It's way beyond the 3 hat shuffle that used to be so popular, think Jimmy Clausen.
ND <t>I saw the video too Terry. I can't say I like it either. Whatever happened to just thanking the university for offering him the Scholie and that he hopes he can be the best at his position and worthy of the offer? Naaaa, to old school huh? I guess we just getting old. But I still don't like it. Let's just hope he turns out to be as good as he is suppose to be and that video doesn't come back to haunt him.</t>
I'm telling y'all, ignore how many stars your recruits have. Your coaches are being paid to evaluate candidates and then convince them to come to your school. If the coaches want them then they are 5 stars. Now can you hold on to the commitment from that 18 yr. old until next February, that's another question. :?
Well said, kp. My personal opinion is that a kid who needs attention so much that he participates in a sideshow (I saw the vdeo - Ugh!) is going to keep looking for attention when the lights dim after his verbal, which should make him vulnerable to the come-ons from other coaches and an eventual de-commit. That's why I'm not getting all giggly over this one.
According to Pete Sampson the Irish wanted Mirko to do a year at Holy Cross which is across the street from Notre Dame and owned by the same order of Priests as Notre Dame. It used to be a 2 year college and is now a 4 year college. BTW that's where Rudy went before he was admitted to Notre Dame.
I was listening to Jack Arute and Butch Davis on a sports talk station on Sirius today. They were discussing Notre Dame and Davis suggested that a major impediment to them getting the top talent was their insistence on mandatory Calculus in the Freshmen year. He said that many high school players graduate with little or no course work in four years to prepare them for Calculus and that many are dissuaded just by that. They were not mocking the Irish in any way, just suggesting that the calc requirement was a major obstacle to many. Interesting.
Gerry Faust and Lou Holtz had to face the Calculus requirement as well, yet they still got top recruits to ND. I seem to remember discussions amongst more recent ND grads that there are several levels available depending on your target major. So that if you are going into Engineering or Physics you take a different level than someone going into Fne Arts or English. But it's always something, I think in the past people have made a big deal out of the language requirement as well. But in the end we're ND, not Arizona State. So unless they are going to have a dumb down major for jocks they have a smaller pool of candidates. That's not anything new. On another front the Opening is just winding up and Irish OL Parker Boudreaux has had a great camp, his SPARQ score was the highest for any OL. Not sure what that translates to on the field because his SPARQ score was higher than Reggie Bush or Tim Tebow. But I doubt he can play RB or QB. Supposed all-time SPARQ Champ in football is some white kid from California named Travis Goethel, who went to Az.State...ever heard of him?
Well OK, if so then fine. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me, I think Kelly went there the first time because he didn't think he had any leaders and felt like maybe going to Culver would allow leadership to develop. This years team I think has leadership.
Well for 2500$ you can go to Culver as well! https://alumni.culver.org/2012/alumni/general/alumni-home/2015/events/notre-dame-2015-home
A 6'5" 212lb WR and kick returner. I can't tell how good he is from these videos, because he's a Canadian playing in British Columbia. He could be Superman or a more physical Randy Moss. Then again, if those Canadian kids aren't that good, he might need three years to develop. I'll take my chances with this guy. As the old saying goes, "You can't coach size." <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZJ94Dkn5d5E?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0"></iframe> Both Oregon and the Washington Huskies really wanted this kid. Someone in the great NW knew something...
ND <t>The kid had offers from Neb and mich also. If he doesn't get any heavier he'll make a nice WR target. Of course if he puts on muscle looks like TE would be natural position for him. [/b]</t>
Alloway <t>Don't know much about Alloway but the west coast schools in particular seem to like him a lot for sure. 4* on Rivals. Top 250 kid.</t>
Also Ade Ogundeji a DE from Michigan will announce this week, Irish seem to be a leader for him. A 3 Star kid.
re: Damien Alloway This kid is a local from here. My first reaction was, somebody from Fontana qualified to get into Notre Dame? For those who don't know, Fontana, CA is the low IQ capitol of the United States. It's the birthplace of the Hell's Angels, as well as the state headquarters of both the American Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan. My personal history with those savages goes back to 1965, when I was tossed out of our game with them for fighting. Our bus was rocked both coming and going. As the years went by, I was also engaged in several full scale baseball brawls with them, both as a player and as a coach. That being said, some parts of Fontana have changed. Summit HS is one of several new schools that were built in the last 20 years. It's in an upper middle class area of new housing tracks and it's not part of the old "Fontucky" around the old Kaiser steel mills. This kid Alloway looks great. He's a burner, and Fontana has produced a ton of those over the years. The town just never had any who qualified for Notre Dame... <iframe width="620" height="380" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qFcxps1zi6w" frameborder="0"></iframe>
