Jamir Jones newest Irish verbal. He's being looked at as a future edge rusher...but here's the odd thing...he's playing QB for his school. Anyway he's another 3 star kid. There is a lot of concern that recruiting is not going well, we are getting kids and they might all turn out to be great kids who are excellent college football players. But that many of them, outside of the OL's, would not even get a sniff from the top programs we seek to emulate. Maybe not even start for Hoover High!
ND <t>Well I don't know about the Jones kid but both Stepherson and Elliot had offers from schools like Georgia, Florida, Miami, FSU, Auburn etc. they may be 3 stars but some other big schools thought they were worth offering a scholar for.</t>
I really like this kid Jamir Jones. He's a legit 6'4" 220lbs. He plays QB and DE on his HS team, but he could easily be a TE, tall slot, safety or WR. He's not going to walk in the door and take anybody's job, because he doesn't have a permanent position yet, but he will fill a position of need before his junior year. I'm very happy to have this kid on board. He's a keeper. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/s0rxw85rEGI?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0"></iframe>
One thing for sue, sometimes kids don't fit easily by virtue of HS size/weight/speed into the mold that a 5* kid does..but yet they end up being outstanding college players. The develop with proper coaching. I saw a comment by one of the recruiting guru's that he plays like his hair is on fire...to me that's a good thing. I always cringe when I read about a player with all the measureables but people say he takes plays off and doesn't always play hard...cough..Javedon Clowney. Now JJ Watt plays like his hair is on fire and his offers out of HS were MAC offers. But I admit I'd like to see a few more players come in that we beat out Alabama and Ohio State for than Rutgers!
This is the year!! I'm not so optimistic as Feldman, but we should be very good and as always it takes a little bit of luck to end up in the big game. Maybe this year we'll have some of that luck. This is the year
I thought our D line with Nix, Tuitt and Day was outstanding. That's the area I worry about most this season. I'm hoping that the O line play vs LSU carries over to this season. Nothing is better than blowing the opposition off the line of scrimmage.
T..come in please! <t>some trivia from the desk of the JIFFER...What do UVA, UMASS, NAVY, TEMPLE, WAKE, BC have in common????</t>
Chew on this, Joel: None of those teams is as bad as the Boston Red Sox, and all of them, including Notre Dame, use properly inflated footballs. Here's something else for you to think about: The biggest game in 2015 in Fenway Park will be Notre Dame vs. boston college.
The word on Jamir Jones is that he had a great camp at ND and the staff decided to offer and he jumped at it. I still would like to see us get some more 4 and 5 star guys, it's great to have motivated kids like him who are underrated but gimmie some Alabama recruits as well!!
Very nice article describing Thom Gatewood's assessment of Malik Zaire. Gatewood is bound for the CF HOF and is by far one of the greatest and toughest receivers in ND history. Nice article. http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dgVtd?...m=newsletter&utm_campaign=notre-dame-football
Mirko Jurkovic Jr. Is being evaluated by ND to see if he'll qualify. Apparently he is trying to up his test score. He was unable to enroll at Ohio State due to some academic issue that was never made public of course. He wasn't a highly recruited kid, but his dad of course played on the '88 championship team and was with ND as a broadcaster when he died ..way too young. Speculation is that the interest on the Irish side besides the legacy angle is that with the move of Jerry Tillery to DL that it left a hole in the OL class of 2015 that he could fill. I hope he can get it in if he has potential/upside which he must if Urban offered/signed him.
Yeah he certainly could. I trust that if Urban wanted him and that Nebraska wanted him that he's got some potential. Kelly/Heistand never offered him last year though, so I'm not sure why. Certainly his dad was well liked around ND. Maybe they never offered because of whatever academic issues he's trying to overcome, or maybe they didn't see him being a fit for what they want in an OL.
I wish I could understand what is going on here with this recruit. If he does not qualify academically here at Ohio State, how can he be qualified at Notre Dame? Granted none of know all the particulars and probably never will, but it just does not make any sense to me.
That's a good question Don, it's been reported that he's trying to get his test score up this summer. Kids can improve their test scores but if they improve them too much that sends up a red flag and they get investigated. Maybe ND is going to take him if he gets a qualifying test score as a favor to his family, plus while he was not highly rated, he was a Neb verbal for a long time till they fired the staff and then he flipped to Ohio State...so it's not like nobody wanted him.
ND <t>Reading over on Mike Frank's board that ND likes Jones at the SAM backer position not DE. They REALLY like the Elliot kid.</t>
:!:  Jones would be perfect at SAM. That's the strong side backer who covers the TE and slot backs on crossing patterns. Jones can run, he's 6'4" and he's a former QB who knows the routes. Yes. I can see Jamir Jones playing early and often in passing situations...
