ND <t>Irish pick up either a 3 or 4* RB Kyren Williams out of St. Louis today. Don’t know much about him but we beat out Mich and Stanford to get him.😃ðŸ‘</t>
Everybody seems to really like this kid. We really need Rbs, hopefully we'll get another one in this class.
From Today's O'Malley's Monday Musings... 9 – Prediction No. 11: In our summer series…Chase Claypool will lead the team in touchdown receptions and receiving yards. -- No. 1: Notre Dame will beat Michigan -- No. 2: Notre Dame will register its second-highest season sack total of the nine-year Brian Kelly Era (27 is the number to beat). -- No. 3: Te’von Coney will break the Kelly Era record for most tackles-for-loss in a season (15.5) set by Sheldon Day in 2015. -- No. 4: Three different running backs will lead Notre Dame in rushing yards in September, October, and November, respectively. -- No. 5: Notre Dame will trail either Vanderbilt or Wake Forest in the second half but win both contests. -- No. 6: Brandon Wimbush will lead Notre Dame in touchdowns scored. (That does not include touchdown passes he throws.) -- No. 7: Khalid Kareem will lead the team in sacks. -- No. 8: The Michigan game will be the season’s lowest-scoring contest. (Lowest point total by the winning team.) -- No. 9: Unlike last year – but as is the case in most Irish football seasons – eight of Notre Dame’s 12 regular season games will be decided by the events of the fourth quarter. -- No. 10: The Stanford game will be Notre Dame’s highest-scoring game this season (most points scored by the losing team).
Irish pickup another 2020 kid, Michael Mayer one of the top TE's in the 2020 class from Kentucky. TE recruiting continues to be very good. I eagerly await seeing what the crew of Cole Kmet , Brock Wright and Alize Mack can do this year and the pipeline is continuing for the future.
Now that Graham Mertz has reaffirmed his pledge to the Badgers, the Irish are focusing on Brandon Clarke a Va kid who has decommitted from Wake Forrest and has offers from UNC and Clemson, so he's not a plan B type of kid. He's a good HS QB.
Nice article on 2020 Irish QB verbal Drew Pyne in USAToday. He's got a cousin who is a big time OL that we'd like to have as well. http://usatodayhss.com/2018/notre-dame-football-drew-pyne-quarterback

Irish had 2 verbals this week. A WR in Cam Hart from Maryland and a QB in Brandon Clark from Va. Both are 3 star kids with a lot of upside from what I read. Class is close to getting full with 17 kids, the theoretical max is 23 kids so that means 5 more slots at the most. Could use another RB, another LB, and another WR and hopefully another OL either Saleem Wormley or Walter Rouse.
Surprise verbal today from Tenn WR TJ Sheffield, he's a 4 star WR and ranked #39 in WR's on 247 composite. The kicker is that he's not done taking official visits. He wants to go to Ohio State and Tenn for officials....so write this guy in pencil.
ND <r>If he is serious about this statement then we don’t have to worry:<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE></r>
They're serious about their education until a better offer comes along. Or they do not get the playing time they think they deserve.
Well that didn't last long, TJ Sheffield is gone. Announced on Twitter that ND told him they were not going to honor his verbal. It seems that TJ's announcement on Twitter that he had committed to ND took ND by surprise and the assistant he called, Del Alexander, accepted it but really shouldn't have. According to Matt Freeman ND had decided earlier that they weren't going to pursue him because they already had several receivers that were just like him and had backed off recruiting him. So the call to say he was giving them his verbal was a complete surprise. Anyway, it's not a good look for ND no matter what the reason. For TJ there is plenty of time left for him and he had a lot of other options so he won't be left out in the cold. Still won't play well for the Irish.
Non Alabama fans would have said it was roster management! Either way it's never a good look for the school, it happens and sometimes it's when there is a coaching change and the new coach who comes in Dec/Jan tells a kid he doesn't fit his plans. But whatever the reason the school comes out looking like a heartless entity, and the kid as a victim. However kids who change their commitment from one school to another rarely get bad press except from the fans of the school they left.
true, but we kinda look like boobs here where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
Yeah it's not the staffs finest hour. I'm not sure exactly how it works, I think in general when the calls from a school either stop coming or only come once in awhile the kid probably should be getting a sense he's not really somebody they are actively recruiting. But clearly when he call Del Alexander he should have been told to hold up, that Del needed to check with Brian Kelly before he could accept the verbal. But you know even that could be spun negatively.
I'm pretty sure Urban Meyer invented the non-committable offer as a recruiting tool. Back in the day when I first started following recruiting nobody handed out offers like candy. Now all the teams have so many offers out there and not all of them are committable offers. But they make the offer and stay in contact with the kid and if things don't fall right for that position they still have a relationship with the kid and he might fill a slot
