ND <r>Terry, <br/> <br/> Unless I'm confused, the Bauer kid is VERY highly rated from what I'm looking at. <E></E></r>
Speaking of the Bleacher Report. The Irish have just announced a partnership with them. http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/080416aab.html
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> No biggie, in this case I'm glad you were wrong. We'll still have to see if he stays committed until he signs. <E></E></r>
Speaking of big time LB commits, when Nyles Morgan committed we were all pretty excited, many thought he'd be a starter from day 1 just like Jaylon Smith. But didn't happen. This is his year though. Here's a Kelly quote on him. I hope he's right. He's a big physical kid who if he has got the defense down and gets good DL play in front of him could certainly blow up into our best Defensive player.
I'd agree gipper, he's going to have to prove it to the fans on the field. If he does step up and do a great job at MLB, then it'd be fair to wonder why he couldn't play more than the injured Joe Schmidt. Who besides having lost a step with that ankle injury also played most of the year with a bad shoulder. Kelly also was asked about Grant Blankenship, and said he's not on the roster and is looking to transfer. Not much of a surprise, Blankenship was not a happy camper last year, publically critical on Instagram or Twitter of the coaches at one point. Kelly also asked a lot of questions with regards to Kizer and Zaire, but refused to be nailed down to anything specific beyond they are both good and will both compete for the job. Personally I favor Kizer because of what he showed last year, he is big and has a strong arm, and while maybe not the type of runner that Zaire is, he can still hurt you with the run and I'll bet he'll be even better this year.
Hard not to notice that with the season coming up soon that George is MIA on the skybox. Still see him on Facebook so we don't need to start an Obit search like we did for P.J. He last posted on a topic in the Back Room, Going to see the Donald, on Feb 24th. Nothing since then. I thought it was odd that he didn't even jump in with his usual attractive female birthday salute. Wonder what happened. Joel was on me, not sure what happened with George.
Terry, I also have noticed his absence. I don't recall any overt problems. Maybe he's so busy that he doesn't have time, which would be a good thing for a guy who owns his own business.
ND <t>I think Kelly needs to go ahead and name a starting QB now. If you screw around with this too long I'm afraid it will affect the rest of the team negatively. We don't have the luxury of starting with some a lesser team at home for the first game.</t>
I sort of agree Tim, unless Kizer has an awful camp I just don't see how you make the guy who lead you to a 10 win season the backup to a guy who has started only 3 games and didn't finish the 3rd game due to injury. I feel bad for Malik but those are the breaks. I never really believed that old saying that you shouldn't lose your starting position to an injury. I think if the guy who replaced you preformed outstanding and even better than you did then he earned the job. I do hope though that we don't have a situation where there are Kizers guys and Zaire's guys. I hope everybody just goes with the decision and moves forward.
BTW did you see that run that Tony Jones jr ripped off in practice. Irish are well set at RB, Dexter Williams is going to be a factor this year as well.
ND <t>Terry, <br/> <br/> I agree, Kizer should start. I like Zaire but just too much good game experience with Kizer.<br/> <br/> Yeah, the Jones kid looks like the real deal. <br/> <br/> Let's hope we get thru fall camp with no injuries this year.</t>
How do you say Kizer is better when he couldn't beat him out the first time? I'm not so quick to write off either candidate at this point in time. It's interesting to see what kind of pressures people and programs put on themselves. It's also equally interesting to see how each program handles this type of 'distraction.' Some food for thought... Alabama is entering their 3rd straight season with a 4 man competition at QB. They still don't have a leader and they didn't have one at this point in time last year. The job will be won when it is won, and putting artificial pressures on yourself just to sooth the fans or media is just self destructive. Jeeez, I am clearly listening to too much Nick Saban
Well said. I'm of the same mind. It's a very nice dilemma. Either one would be an excellent choice IMO.
From what I can tell he never really fit in at ND, not academically or on the field. Good luck to him at OU.
