He's a pretty good singer. Sounds like he's settled nicely into his post football career. Good for him.
I don't follow recruiting, so after I read Tim's post above I googled Darnell Ewell. A DT! Hooray! http://notredame.247sports.com/Article/BREAKING-DT-Darnell-Ewell-commits-to-Notre-Dame-46256568
Michael Young, WR from Louisiana...next possible verbal. Set to announce tonight...on Twitter of course.
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I guess I'm showing my age but the whole twitter thing is just beyond me. I had an account but deleted it I think. Anyway. I just don't get it.</r>
I think you mean Michael Young don't you Tim? He's a 3 star kid who a lot of people really like as a slot receiver. He had some good offers and was down to Oregon, A&M and ND. I think from what I read there are a couple of other WR's out there that people are really hoping will come ND's way. One is Hezikiah Jones and the other is Jerimiah Hollman, both outstanding and elite. The next St. Brown kid is also highly coveted but he seems to be looking hard at Stanford and has not been admitted yet so no offer. Could be another Demetris Robinson. Other area that we have some good guys left is OL we have 3 guys now but we really want one of these three guys Foster Sarrells, Trey Smith or Jedrick Willis. It'll be a battle to get one of those guys. But it would make this OL class one of the best. I don't think they are even looking at anybody else right now. I will be surprised if they take another RB. We are solidly in the top 10 in recruiting right now, but there are a lot of 5 star guys left out there and when they start falling other teams could pass us up unless we get one or two as well. Right now 7 of the 26 5 star kids on Rivals have committed, 3 to Ohio State 2 to Alabama 1 to LsU and 1 to Clemson. I don't think either Ohio State or Alabama are finished either. Those 2 have separated themselves from the rest of us in recruiting.
ND <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> I stand corrected. Thanks.<br/> <br/> We have a very nice 2017 class going so far.</t>
I guess by now everybody has seen the Shamrock Series Uniforms. Like most of them, they are controversial to say the least. I'm ok with them, I actually like the Helmet a lot, some photo's of Jersey and Pants I like some I think the color is odd. I'm still not sure I'm going to drive over to San Antonio for the game. I like San Antonio and the Riverwalk and when Kes and Scott and group were there along with Tom and Cindy I had a good time. I don't know anybody going to the game this time though.
Terry, re: color of jerseys. I think (from memory so check me) that the color is very similar to, if not exactly like, the color of the green jerseys worn in the 30s and 40s during the cross-stripe helmet era.
Mike Brey tweeted that Demetrius Jackson has signed a $5.5 million rookie contract with the Celtics. It's 4 years, years 1-3 guaranteed, year 4 team option. Plus, he's going to be coached by Brad Stevens. Life is good for DJ, as it should be.
Well Friday Kelly will have his press conference and then the Irish well head down the road to Culver Military Academy for the first week of practice. I'm never 100% sure why they do this, but some say it's a good bonding process for the team and the practices away from their regular environment means fewer distractions as well. I look forward to the season with excitement and trepidation. 1. Excitement that we seem to have a stable of capable QB's. Kizer, Zaire, and Wimbush. I remember back in 2010 when I thoght Dayne Crist was going to be a great ND QB, and that seemed to be confirmed when he took the field vs Michigan and had them on the ropes till he had a head injury. Behind him we had nothing. Of course the legendary Tommy Rees story begins here but it was a bumpy ride with Tommy. Golson flashed some good stuff but then he flashed some bad stuff and was gone. Kizer, Zaire and Wimbush. It's been a long time since we had this type of depth at QB. 2. Excitement in waiting to see what Josh Adams can do in his 2nd season, hoping that Folston has the season we know he's capable of having, and then there is Dexter Williams who showed some stuff in the Spring and was more highly thought of as high schooler than Adams. Nice 3 deep at RB. 3. Excitement in waiting to see how the OL shakes out, another likely high 1st rounder at LT in McGlinchey, a brawler at LG in Nelson and a solid center in Mustipher. Then some trepidation on the RG and RT...a lot of potential there, but not a lot of experience. How about Tommy Kraemmer I am excited about him and Parker Buedreaux , but I hope they get to red shirt. Kelly says it might be tough to keep Tommy off the field. 4. Excitement to see how our WR and TE work out, a lot of young talent out there, I think they'll be good. I think Tori Hunter Jr could be great, and it'll be very interesting to see how Alize Jones does in the role of Corey Robinson or EQ St. Brown. Maybe there is no Will Fuller but there is a lot of good young players, say Kevin Stepherson that guy was outstanding in the Spring! 5. Trepidation about everything on the defense. We have some numbers and experience on the DL with Cage and Jones in the middle along with Jerry Tillery and Issac Rochell. But the LB's could be great or they could be not great. Will Max Redfield play like he can consistently, will one of my favorite players Drew Tranquil be up to SS I know there is no lack of heart or want to in Drew that's for sure. CB seems to be in good hands, there are a couple of young guys who might make an impact, Devin Studstill had an excellent spring pushing Max Redfield, then there is true feshman Troy Pride Jr who won all the sprints at the North Carolina HS championshps, nobody had ever done the triple he did, so what can he do this fall? But given how the defense played last year, giving up big plays all over the place and seemingly falling for every trick play in the NCAA. I think having some trepidation is natural. 6. Excitement to see Justin Yoon and Tyler Newsome have great years again. They were terrific last year.
Great news for DJ, it had to be some disappointment to go from everybody talking about how he was going to be a 1st rounder to being a 2nd rounder. But he did go to a great organization in Boston and Brad Stevens. It's more money than most Americans will make in a lifetime, and hopefully he'll get his chance to grow his game and play 10 years. In the current NBA even an average player once he's past his rookie deal will make 8-10 million a year. Not too bad . I hope though that he takes the time to come back and finish his ND degee. That is important to me and should be important to him.
ND <t>You knew it had to be coming. Just before media day. Alize Jones TE out for season. Academics</t>
Yeah, Kelly said a couple of weeks ago that everybody was clear but apparently Jones was appealing his academic suspension. I will say his message that he put out was very good. He took full responsibility for the situation and said he would stay at ND and work out with the team and fix his academics. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do this year, so this is a loss but he wasn't a key to the season and we do have Smythe and Weishar along with Luatua and Matuska who mainly block. But I was really interested in seeing what he could do as the big WR more so than the TE.
2018 Penn LB Bo Bauer gave his verbal today. Not a really highly ranked recruit but he projects as MLB in this defense.
