    Pat Connaughton is telling MLB teams that he plans to return to ND for his senior year and play two sports. Some teams don't like it, some are willing to work with him. He leaves open the possibility of being drafted, playing minor league ball in the summer, and returning to ND to play basketball and get his degree.

    New twist on recruiting... Big 12 teams have been doing it for a couple of years, Texas complained about Ok State doing it, but Ok State countered that they weren't the host that the school whose campus they used was the host and their staff was merely employed as counselors at that camp (perfectly legal).

    Now ND is going to Georgia State for a camp in 2015 and looking at Calif sites. Penn State is going to Georgia State this summer and some place in Fla as well. Same deal, it's a Georgia State camp with Penn State coaches on staff. Not surprisingly SEC coaches aren't too happy about this.

    I'm going to bet that the NCAA steps in and says ...nah this is a sham. Which of course it is, but currently legal. I think I'm reading that you can't host a camp further than 50 miles from your campus, so this is a way around that.

    I disagree with the practice. I believe it's a brazen way to skirt the rules. Funny, there's no mention of SEC programs coming up north or west coast programs coming east. :lol:

    New Commit

    <r>Josh Barajas, LB from Indiana decommitted from Penn State and gave his verbal to ND yesterday. <br/>
    <br/>
    Barajas actually declared Notre Dame was his leader after visiting and receiving an offer from the Irish in March and on Friday, he came to the decision that many believed he would initially and committed to Notre Dame.<br/>
    <br/>
    Nice. <E>:D</E></r>

    I'm completely shocked. Actually I was shocked that he committed to Penn State when he did, but his statements afterward were strong about being done with recruiting, etc. I was moving on, and nobody (gurus) were saying things like this isn't over, Kelly will stay on him, etc. Everybody seemed to let him go and move on to Hilliard. So I'm completely surprised by this turn of events.

    As usual, recruiting these kids always brings plenty of surprises, this time in our favor, maybe... Hope we still get the Hilliard kid too.</t>

    :idea: :!:

    These are kids and they're being bombarded with flattery and offers of free stuff from every conceivable direction. All of their classmates are wondering if they will be accepted to a college they want; then they have to figure out how to pay for it. Most of these football players have never even had to make a real decision before. It's not surprising that most of them are confused...

    I just saw today that ND commit Jhonny Williams won the Michigan Class 3 shotput title (56 ft.). Last year, he finished 5th in shotput and 7th in High Jump. When does that ever happen? Must be a darn good athlete.

    Drama developing around Blake Barnett who visited Oregon and really liked what they have to offer, said he's solid to ND but hasn't made his final decision.

    That's the new theme for today's recruit, all over the country. I"m committed to you but I'm open to other offers.

    Blake Barnett...bye bye...said he's opening up his recruitment...word is that ND will not be a school he'll consider going forward.

    Back in Nov he was excited.

    I'll miss Alex Flanagan much more than a 17 year old kid.
