I'm not a big fan of Fowler. Like Musberger, I don't dislike him. I just don't care for his style. Of course, if ND would make the 4-team playoff, I would gladly listen to him or anyone else. IMO the cupboard is pretty bare at ESPN when it comes to play-by-play talent.
Sam Bush (6'4" 295lbs) is a very good football player. He was all-world at public school powerhouse Newport Harbor HS......where his dad was the booster president......then he transferred to Mater Dei where he was an all-league player. He has the grades to go anywhere and he certainly would be an instant starter at any Ivy League school or service academy, but he wants Notre Dame for the same reason that he wanted Mater Dei: they're the best in his eyes. We got another good one for free... http://articles.dailypilot.com/2014-01-23/sports/tn-dpt-sp-0124-sam-bush-notre-dame-20140123_1_sam-bush-dame-football-mater-dei-high
Great Story! I really hope this kid works out now...maybe he'll be like Joe Schmidt who also was from Mater Dei and basically sealed the USC win for us this past year.
In these films, you can see that Sam Bush played left tackle at Mater Dei. This means that he was their best pass blocker who protected their QB. He's also a very good run blocker and you can see that too. Remember, Mater Dei doesn't play the Little Sisters of Charity. They play the toughest teams who aren't afraid to schedule them and that includes out of state road trips. This kid Bush was overlooked...probably because of all the big-time stars who also play left tackle around here...like Damien Mama. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/457252/sam-bush IMHO this kid Bush is better than most 3-star OLs who got full rides to West Coast schools... BTW- Sam Bush is #76 in the red, striped helmets.
Irish Hockey took 2 out of 3 from BC at their place this weekend. That makes us 3-2 vs BC this year all were in Boston and they have been ranked #1 for most of the season. On to Hockey East Semi-Finals ...in Boston.
From an interview of Jack Swarbrick in the SBT: ND Basketball They make you jump through a couple of hoops to read that article. I'm a registered user so as long as I'm logged in I don't have to worry. All the papers seem to be going that way, the Houston Chronicle started it last year and it sort of ticks me off.
Irish back at it for the 2nd half of Spring Drills. I don't think I've ever heard of a team that split their Spring Drills into two parts, I hope it turns out to be a good move. I read Kelly's transcript and guys like the ISD and Irish Illustrated Guru's but nothing really stands out to me. Seems like everybody is worried about DL depth and inside LB. Offense seems to be poised to have a great year with all 3 RB's (Bryant, Folston and McDaniel) healthy and ready to go. I hope they stay that way as there is nobody behind them. OL is being touted as the best we've had in quite awhile. Stanley (LT) and McGlinchey (RT) with Steve Elmer (LG) and right now Hegarty (C) and Connor Hanratty is the RG..but many expect Nick Martin to be the starter in the fall at center and Christian Lombard to be the starter at RG. The WR's there just is so much talent it's hard to believe that we won't be one of the most potent and productive passing teams in the country and if Ben Koyack can stay healthy then he could emerge as an AA candidate. DB's seem to have lots of talent and depth. I was surprised that Josh Atkinson was still with the team, I thought he transferred when GAIII left for the NFL. Plus we have the Gator kid coming this August to bolster the group. Going to be very young though in the middle at LB and thin at DL. Also although Kelly keeps responding to questions about the defense going to a 4:3 base with they will continue with a 3:4 base and points out that they are close to 50/50 in games going with 4 man front vs 3 man front. But all the guru's swear Van Gorder is going to the 4:3.
Musberger is a thesaurus with only football cliches in it. This is going to make watching SEC football so frustrating.
Don, You're right, that's what happens to Musberger when he gets away from his football cliches.
Yeah while Ms Webb was a beauty before that game, those comments really gave her a lot of national attention that she wouldn't have received otherwise. I'm sure that she's is a little richer in the pocket book due to Brent's comments.
Back to ND stuff. Irish Hockey is in the Hockey East Semifinals tonight vs UMass-Lowell. After an up/down season they seem to have found their legs and playing very well at the right time. They beat the Irish twice during the regular season, back in November.
Dan Fox is credited with running a 4.59 40 yeserday at ND's pro day for NFL scouts. That puts him in the very top echelon of LBs for speed in the nation. Who would have known? He kept that well hidden for four years.
Diaco criticism is starting to grow, lots of people now say that his system was very complicated and that contributed to players being hesitant and a step slow in reacting. I just hope that this new guy finds a way to get after the Navy QB, that seems to have baffled Diaco. I rewatched the Air Force game last night and it was discouraging to see Mathias Farley get lit up by smaller Air Force backs constantly taking him out of the play and allowing the ball carrier to cut up inside and make yards. He was directly responsible for the 1st Air Force TD. Of course they couldn't cover our receivers so we killed them, but it was a harbinger of things to come with Navy who had a much better offense.
That is exactly what the problem was. Too much detail. You do not want your defensive players thinking too much; it slows them down
There was a good post on a site callled IrishEnvy.com by a guy who went to the practice yesterday. Worth a read. Guy is from L.A. but lives in South Bend ..check out his avatar which is him and a buddy I assume. I wonder if they lived in West Hollywood? IrishEnvy.Com Report
I went to ND's baseball game today vs. Virginia Tech. It was played in Westfield, about 20-25 minutes from my home. It's also where gipper's daughter and her family live. I took my two oldest grandsons. My son and his twin 7 yr. old boys also went. It was a fun day, although ND did not look good, losing 8-3 after giving up 8 runs in the first two innings. It was cold with the temp around 40 or less and a northerly breeze. The little boys and their older cousin retrieved 4 foul balls, including two from a retention pond as the balls drifted with the wind to within reaching distance from the shore. They kept three and gave one to another kid who was watching them. They are playing again in Westfield tomorrow. Connaughton is pitching. Unfortunately, I can't go. I knew Craig Biggio had a son on the team, but I did not know he has two sons playing, both of whom are starters.
