We lose a game or two most years where the other team has players that you know the Irish never even recruited.

If they pass the eyeball test that is what is most important to me.

Well Chris Leake is the new WR coach at UF, Joker Phillips has resigned. So that's what happened to Chris. He'd been a GA at UF before that.

    re: Elijah Taylor

Played at Moeller in Cincinnati. He's a nose guard type.

I don't get it, Mahone has never been in any trouble before, what a bad mistake on his part. If he's dismissed from the team he won't be missed as he's never played much and isn't likely to play at all. He'll be an academic Sr. this fall and likely wouldn't be invited back for a 5th year, but now getting a ND degree is in doubt.

I read Eric Hasens report in the Trib and he must have been messed up on something. Maybe somebody slipped something in one of his drinks. He was raging at everybody, threatening to kill people, fighting, resisting arrest, etc.

The behavior described fits what I've read about people high on X or stuff like that. Hard to believe he's a user of that stuff, but it was way more than just a drunk.

Stories like this are usually the first act in a very sad drama with a sad ending...

I'm not one to ever believe one damned thing the police say. It's not a bleeding heart thing, it's a 'I've seen them lie, beat and re-create scenarios TO ME.' Every guy I know who grew up to be a cop is a lying, power tripping asshole.

I've met lots of great guys who are troopers, cops, feds etc...so I'm not saying they don't exist, however, I know there's as many bad cops as there are good ones.

With that said, I believe the police here. Also, I'm wondering (like Terry) if there was something more than booze involved. I'm also wondering if this is an ugly problem that was finally exposed, or just the first misstep down a bad path?

Wow. My son will tell you that his number one job is to get home in one piece every day. To do that he has to deal with some extraordinary idiots, psychopaths, lying lowlife scum that will do unpeakable things to other human beings as well as themselves and him.

He has seen dead babies at their parents hand, people burned alive, motorcyclists who are power washed off the highway onto the shoulder because that is all that is left of them, spousal abuse daily, rampant drug use and ODs, animal abuse etc. And that is in addition to the normal crimininal activities he deals with as an undercover detective with the NJSP.

You bet they can get on a power trip. That is how these guys survive, how they get up the next day. We all deal with our problems; they deal with their own problems and yours. Not an easy job.

Indianapolis Cathedral Pitcher and ND signee, Ashe Russel is the Indiana Gatorade Player of the year.

Program definitely needs a boost in talent and maybe in coaching. We're a long way from where we were in 2002 when we went to the College World Series and not in a good direction. Maybe now that they finally got the field finished and we'll actually play home games we'll be on the rise. If not Swarbrick needs to look at his short list.

He obviously is a great kid and an outstanding pitcher. I haven't seen him, but his stats and awards speak for themselves. However, don't hold your breath. Here's an excerpt from a May 28 article in the Indianapolis Star:

I get that George, I do. I also know that some, not all, regularly wipe their ass with the Constitution. The notion of 'protect and serve' is supposed to come ahead of 'make it home each day.'

It's a tough job no doubt, and one that no one forced them to take.

Again, I'm jaded. I've been attacked, cuffed, restrained and beaten by the police TWICE for crimes that I called to report. I literally got my ass 'Rodney Kinged' once until the actual suspects that I described drove by. They just uncuffed me and left me on the street.

Not all cops are like that, and as I said, there are some great cops out there. There are just as many bad ones.

That being said and back on topic, I think Mr Mahone got into something more than booze..

Wow...QB rich Alabama just picked up the Barnett kid from So.Cal who had at one time been our QB verbal. I'm completely shocked, not that it's not a great school for him to go play for, they win a lot that's for sure. But everybody thought for sure when he decided against ND after a visit to Oregon and talked about always loving Oregon...that Oregon would be the spot.

Maybe it was the pro-style offense at Alabama that attracted him. But I'm thinking I can't actually think of a Saban QB who is a NFL success, collegiate success sure and I don't down play that at all. Who doesn't want to win and compete for NC's. But as I said Alabama is loaded with young talent at QB.
