    re: USC QBs in 1995

Kyle Wachholz and Brad Otton. The Trojans won the Pac10 that year and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

re: Texas running back who was better than Ricky Williams

I mentioned that I thought he was better during the game. His name was Priest Holmes.

    re: Jim Sanson

I had faith in Sanson, because I had run into him before. My travel-ball baseball team played against his in Mesa, Arizona and I couldn't get him out. The game was an extra-inning shoot-out and he went something like 7-for-7. Guys like that give an old pitcher nightmares. What I didn't know about his kicking, was that he had no goal posts to practice with. He learned how to kick between some palm trees at a local park. If I had known that when I made my statement, I wouldn't have been so confident... :p

The other RB was Priest Holmes. He had a 10 year career and a Super Bowl ring..

Now that Gary Williams has retired at Maryland the rumours are starting that Mike Brey will take the job. Brey is from Maryland, but not a Maryland Grad. He graduated from George Washington.

Funny thing is that only a few years ago people were hoping somebody would take Brey off our hands, but the last 2 years and seeming uptick in recruiting has left Irish fans hoping now that he will stay.

One of the criticisms of ND basketball is that the Administration doesn't take care of it like they do football. When Brey was hired they promised him upgraded facilities, but it took 10 years before they upgrade Joyce, and they still have no plans for upgraded practice facilities. At Maryland they care about basketball and spend the money on it. I'm sure he'd make more money at Maryland and have better facilities, but he'd still be the 3rd or 4th best program in the ACC behind Duke/UNC and ?

I hope he stays, and that he uses this as leverage to get better facilities and more pay for assistants. Sort of the thing that Matt Painter did at Purdue recently.

I know on ISD there was a lot of criticism of the discussion but quite frankly, I thought it was well balanced and while not thorough, they spent a lot of time talking about a team not even in the preseason top 15. Until we stop losing to the Tulsas and getting thrashed by Navy we don't deserve any respect. Meyer seems to be a lot more favorable to the school than say James. However, last year wasn't our first bowl win in forever. We did win in Hawaii didn't we?

<t>I have to admit I have softened my criticism of Meyer a lot over the past few months. Some of the comments he has made about ND have made me take a closer look at the guy. I genuinely thought for some reason he didn't care for ND at all, obviously I was wrong.<br/>

As far as the TV discussion about ND the only thing that is going to change the minds of these sports talking heads on ESPN etc. is for ND to just go out there and be dominate on the field. Then they have no choice but to respect the program. We are getting closer and hopefully this coming season will put the Irish back where they need to be. Still hoping Kelly is our guy and can get it done.</t>

<t>Deontay Greenberry of Washington Union High (Fresno, Calif.) says he has ND as his leader now and I couldn't be happier! Check out the video on this kid and you'll see why! Man I hope we can get this WR. He's tall, big and appears to have great hands and good speed. Just what we need to take Floyd's place in 2012.</t>

Have you heard anything about that WR from Missouri who's the next "Randy Moss" talent wise...hopefully not mentally/characterwise.

BTW: being reported now that Sean Miller is going to take the MD job so Mike Brey not likely going to leave.

    re: Deontay Greenberry

I haven't heard of him or his high school, which is up in the middle of the state where all the marijuana fields are. He looks like a great prospect. You can't shrug off a true WR with numbers like 6'3" and a 4.4 forty. Furthermore, I notice that Skippy over at UCLA is after him. That is always a good sign. Neuheisel is a great judge of talent, he just doesn't know how to coach it without cheating...

BTW- good news about Brey. The BB program is finally on the right track.

    Re: the Maryland job

I wouldn't think that it would be that attractive to a higher level coach already ensconced in a higher level program like ND or Arizona. Unless you have a magic potion for attracting elite recruits, the best you can hope for in the ACC is third place behind Duke and NC. On the other hand, it would be a great upward move for a hot coaching prospect at a mid major program.

    We'll see.

Hey Williams won a NC at Maryland. I think Drisell won at least one at Maryland prior to that.

Carlton Scott decides to stay in the NBA draft. He will graduate this month so staying the extra year was not necessary for him academically and even if he doesn't play in the NBA next year he'll play for pay somewhere in Europe. I wish he had come back, he really is a very good college player and the team would have had a lot of prospects for 2011-12 season with him on the team. But good luck to him!

I requested tickets for AF and BC, and I will be going to the Purdue game in W. Lafayette with my son and granddaughter.

Gip, how long a drive is it timewise to ND from your home?
