ND baseball struggling along this year. New coach probably will need some time to get things going again. I don't think coach Schrage left him with very much.
Great article, Terry. To be honest, I got a bit choked up as I read it, remembering Brian's experience. I guess old age has softened me. Thank you!
ND <r>Looks like the RB situation just took a hit. Cam Roberson suffered a torn lateral collateral ligament and partially torn anterior cruciate ligament. Puts him in serious doubt for playing in the upcoming season. <E></E></r>
Yeah and we were thin to begin with, I heard Kelly said he would look to see if a couple of the Interhall football players could fill in for the Spring. I couldn't tell if he was serious or not, but I think there is only 1 walk on this spring who plays RB. Cam McDaniel....are you ready to be the next man in???? Also Anthony McDonald is out for the Spring with a partially torn pec muscle. But will be back in the fall, not to mention we have some depth at his position.
ND vs USC Oct 22 will be a night game. 7:30. I'm all for Sept night games to help beat the heat, late October...not so much. If ND is having a great year, it'll be a box office winner though on TV. We also play Michigan at the Big House at night this year.
Kelly has said that the Irish will wear 1950's throw back uniforms for the Michigan game and that there will be a uniform change coming later in the year that "even" Oregon isn't doing.
For the first time, ND is going to use tiered pricing for home games. The Michigan State, USC, and BC games will be $80 per ticket. All the rest are $70, the same as last year. This tells me that: 1) the demand for the three higher-priced games is expected to be far greater than the supply, and 2) they are concerned about possibly having trouble selling out some of the so-called "lesser" games on the home schedule. I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing, especially if they keep the ticket prices relatively flat year-to-year for the "other" games.
A sad note. There was a tragic crash in Alabama in which four teens from Angola, IN were killed by a car crossing the median on I-65. The driver of the other car also was killed. One of the teens was the brother of the ND leprechaun. Angola is the town near our old lake cottage in the NE corner of the state. All four boys were active and well-liked. A terrible tragedy.
I'm a little late in posting this but a classmate of mine who was a great football player Jim Seymour passed away this past week. He grew up in this area (Berkley, MI) and attended Shrine HS just down the road from where I live. One of his cousins lived with his family on our street. Those of us who were there will never forget the Purdue game in 1966 when he and Hanratty made one of the most incredible college football debutes ever. A couple of years ago I lost another classmate Dr. Dennis Nigro who was known as Bergen on the ND Nation and ISD boards. It's time like this that you feel your mortality.
I saw that about Jim Seymour. I can remember that Purdue game almost like it was yesterday, he was a great college football player and from what I have read a great man as well. I decided to look up Jim on Wikipedia and found out the former Michigan TE Paul Seymour was his brother. I wonder why he didn't attend Notre Dame? Also looked up the Wiki on Shrine HS, very interesting history. Father Charles Coughlin was associated with the founding. I remember my father being a fan of his (before I was born). Also on the Shrine HS wikipedia page they listed notable alumni including Kristin Bell (va va vavoom) and John Wrangler (Mich QB) did not list Jim Seymour. I don't really remember what shortened Jim's football career I assume it was injury. It does give you a little something to think about when your contemporaries start passing away.
Terry I first met Jim in a gym class freshmen year. We were in the vollyball session that freshmen had to endure. The "prof" happened to be the tennis coach and since I was playing freshmen tennis at the time he had me be one of the captains who were supposed to choose up sides. For my first pick I took a tall kid who looked like he has some ability. It was Jim. For my next pick he conviced me to "pick Terry." So as you can guess, MY vollyball team had both Hanratty and Seymour and we kicked ass in vollyball. I was really crushed when they didn't give me any mention in the Time magazine article on them the following year.
The swim coach......Stark.....can't recall his first name. His son Dennis was a classmate of mine. I'm trying to visualize you at the net. I'm guessing you were more of a setter on that VB team, right?
Sid the Tennis coach was named Fallon. I was 155 lbs as a frosh. Besides some other sports I high jumped in HS.
