Irish lose to UMD 2-1, just reading the posts it seems like UMD was just better, they were faster and played great hockey defense. Terrific season for the Irish, get to the championship game for the 2nd year in a row so they are doing something right. Just need to reload and come back again.
Not new news...but the Irish are building a new indoor practice facility that will be used by football, mens and womens soccer. In the ever competitive field of athletic facilities the Irish need to spend to keep up with the other top programs in the country. https://news.nd.edu/news/notre-dame-to-construct-new-indoor-facility/
Also, not surprisingly controversy has arisen over Kelly's comments in a Press Conference about transferring Jay Hayes. Reading the whole thing it's not as bad as some would have you believe, but I do think the wording could have been better. So the bolded parts are what offended a lot of people. If I were advising Brian Kelly I wouldn't have had him answer that question with anything other than...Jay has been a great part of our football program and we wish him well in the future. That would be it. Nothing gained by trying to explain why he might be transferring, it might have been that he was getting passed on the depth chart and didn't want to sit on the bench as a 5th year senior but even if true just leave it alone. Wish him well and don't give the media any speculation.
ND <r>Honestly, I don't have a problem with any part of his statement. No one seems to be able to say anything in thus PC world without having someone interpret it in some ******** twisted way. <E></E> The kid and the media need to move on.</r>
We don't know the whole story and likely never will. My money's on Kelly, who's experienced enough to know exactly what he was saying. Those words didn't just slip out of his mouth. He probably was sending sending a message with his cryptic comments. When my son was on the team, there was a lot of drama that never saw the light of day outside the locker room. He only spoke of it generally and never got into specifics. It goes on all the time at all programs. To those who were offended, I say kiss my Irish ass.
I have no problem with anything Kelly said. But in this day and age where everyone is offended by everything, it does not suprise me that someone may be offended by this. I echo Sid; if you're offended pucker up and kiss my ass!
I see that Arike Ogunbowale is going to be on Dancing with the Stars....those 2 shots really changed her life, Cover of Sports Illustrated, Ellen Show, DWTS, i hope she has time to keep with with her academics. On the Kelly kerfluffle...I'd agree it didn't offend me personally, but I still would have told him not to say anything beyond good luck to him and stuff like that. George is right though so many people seem to get up in the morning and look for something or somebody who offends them in some way shape or form and take to the Internet/Social Media. We see it all the time where athletes post something they think is cute or insightful on social media only to have to delete it quickly and of course somebody already has a screen shot of it so it's never really deleted. Then they spend time apologizing, explaining, etc.
More good news for WBB. The #1 recruit in the country, Samantha Brunelle, has given her verbal to Coach McGraw and the Nat'l Champion Fight Irish! In most years that #1 has gone to UConn. This is the last week of Spring Drills, with the Blue/Gold game due on Saturday. There was high praise for Brandon Wimbush from everybody, the website gurus', on his performance during the drills that they were allowed to watch. Now if Practice Brandon will turn into Gameday Brandon next year could be very good! No news on the recruiting front.
Well there is news on the recruiting front, Drew Pyne a 2020 QB from New Canaan Connecticut ..247Sports has him rated the #7 Pro Style QB. So makes me wonder if we will have a QB in the 2019 class. He has a cousin who is a highly rated OL in the same 2020 class who the Irish have offered, no guarantees but it can't hurt.
I have to laugh sometimes at what recruits say... So Zeke Correll a highly sought after OL, said this after a visit to Clemson of his top 3 programs. I guess he didn't notice the big Cathedral on the Notre Dame Campus, the statue of the Virgin Mary on the Dome or the mural of Christ on the Hesburgh Library. Also while I think it's no secret that Dabo is a sort of born again type of Christian and he makes no excuses for his faith and his expression of it..but Clemson is a State school and there for it's sort of odd to say it's a Faith Based Program.
Good comments. Bunch of godless heathens in South Bend. Religious faith is discouraged. And every body knows that a Notre Dame education is not worth much on the job market. But the players are nice. Get some sleep, son.
OL recruiting is looking pretty good, Quinn Carroll also expected to be Irish before June. Spring game today, not really expecting much, it would be nice to see Wimbush look good throwing the ball. But mostly I hope we get by with no injuries.
Irish and Alabama have reached a home/home agreement for 2028/2029. I'll be in my 80's by then, hopefully still able to enjoy it on my Holographic TV! http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/041918aab.html
ND <t>and the Irish get another 4* recruit. This time a safety. Litchfield Ajavon. 2 days and two top 200 recruits. Not bad😀</t>
Spring Game: IMO both QBs looked good. RBs looked good. Defense looked good. Tough to predict based on today's intrasquad scrimmage, but knowing that we'll have a pretty decent defense, I'm not concerned about the few QB errors. As a fan, I'm comfortable knowing we have two QBs with good arms and strong legs plus a WR/RB and a QB/WR/RB to solidify our depth at RB. OL must be decent based on the offensive drives vs. the strong D front 7. I thought Alohi Gillman looked good along with a few other DBs. They closed fast on several passing plays to prevent receptions. In summary, I didn't see any glaring weaknesses, which is a good thing. A few WR/TE drops is about the only thing that was less than positive IMO. On the other hand, there were some nice WR/TE plays.
I've just seen the highlights buy Claypool looks like he's ready for a breakout season. Always hard to judge these Spring games, if the offense looks too good what does that say about the defense and vice versa. I like the new DB verbal that Tim mentioned I hope we have 4 or 5 more kids by the time June rolls around. They've offered a kid who is currently a Wisconsin verbal at QB, don't know if they can flip him though. He's a 2019 QB.
