W.Michigan today for Irish baseball...then a big road trip to FSU for the weekend. A sweep by FSU would be bad, win a game and I think it's a decent outcome. It would be huge if we could win the series 2-1.
Well ND did get some good news from the NCAA, well not just ND but everybody, they can now pay the cost of a recruits parents/guardians to come with him on an offical visit. This is very big for a school like ND who depends on National recruiting where parents have to spend some money to fly to ND/stay in Hotel and pay for meals. All of that is of course covered for the recruit. It's not that big a deal for Texas because most of the kids we recruit are with in an easy day's drive from Austin so Parents don't have quite the same expense. But still it will help parents even of Texas recruits to have their meals and hotel paid for during the recruiting trip. For the Irish of course it gives us a better shot if the kids parents get to see the campus with him and meet the coaches, learn about the special nature of going to ND and see it first hand. Won't make us a recruiting machine, but will give us a better shot at some kids.
Irish Academics are top notch again when the 4 year APR results were released. http://www.und.com/genrel/042016aab.html[/quote]
Swarbrick announced that there will be no Shamrock Series game in 2017, that will be the "Grand Opening" of the Crossroads project and they want to maximize the home games. He said it will resume in 2018. Also looking at the APR announcement on und.com, I noticed that no mention of football was made. So I checked the NCAA site and football's APR was 975 which was the lowest of all the sports on campus. It's a pretty average APR in the football world. Duke and Northwestern are both in the 990's, Stanford is 983, Vanderbilt is 990. So it's not a bad score and historically it's about average for ND, our high was 978 twice and low was 964 once, there was an outlier year the first year the APR was calculated in 2004-05 where we had a 946. The other thing I noticed is if you go to und.com and count the number of sports they list it's 11 mens and 10 womens. But they say there were 16 1000 scores + 6 that were 985 or higher = 22 then football at 975 =23. What am I missing.
Disappointing weekend for Irish baseball. Three losses to FSU. However, Michael Hearne was named ACC Player of the week for his complete game shutout over #21-ranked Michigan State. He had Tommy John surgery 13 months ago. Lefties rule! http://www.und.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/042516aaa.html
Yeah Irish baseball is a good team, just not a top team. We have a couple of midweek games, one with IU and another MAC team after that, then a 3 game weekend series with Ohio which seems odd, then we resume ACC competition. Maybe we can win all 5 of those, that will help the record for sure. Irish Softball is one of the better teams in the ACC. Both Lax squads are very good, and should challenge for ACC Championships and NCAA's.
That was a surprise, E. Michigan isn't an esp good team either. Next up is Ohio for 3 games this weekend. A sweep would be nice. We also have a 2 game series with LSU coming up, that should be tough.
Will Fuller to the Texans! I look forward to seeing him play in our retooled offense! Ronnie Stanley to the Ravens, good luck to him.
ND <t>Great news for Fuller.<br/> <br/> Feel bad for Jaylon. He should have easily gone in the first round also.</t>
I wonder where Jaylon gets drafted. I will be surprised if he goes in the 2nd or 3rd round. I won't be shocked if he's a 6th round draft choice by some one and it's not impossible that they will pass on him completely and he'll be a free agent. 4th to 6th round though is where he'll be taken though. At that point you can take a little risk that he'll be back for 2017. Also I've read that if he falls to the 4th round he'll get 5 million dollars from his insurance policy. So it might be better for him to fall to the 4th round or later.
ND <t>I didn't realize Jaylon has a insurance point that covered this. If so, I feel a little better about the situation. Hope to see him play many years in the NFL though as I'm sure he does as well. He a great young man and great representative of Notre Dame.</t>
The Dallas Cowboys just took Jaylon Smith with the 34th pick in the draft. Good for Jaylon. The Cowboys will be rewarded for stepping up and being willing to wait for him to get back on the field.
Good for the Cowboys. Their orthopedic surgeon was the one who operated on Jaylon. You got to believe he knows the odds for a full recovery. Good things happen to good people.
I'm surprised by the Cowboys pick of Smith, but as gip said their doc's did his surgery so they are the best able to evaluate the future for him. I hope he does great, even though I'm a died in the wool Cowboy hater. Nick Martin to the Texans, I'm a little surprised at this as well. I didn't see it coming and I don't think I even heard his name mentioned on Sports radio here in Houston.
