I was at that game sitting in the first row above the tunnel. Paterno's nugget is blocking me in that halftime interview. By the way, who was that big guy shaking hands with Paterno at the end of the clip? :D

Irish get a verbal from a Houston area RB, actually from just down the freeway from me, Jamel James. He's 5'11" 220 and supposedly has run a 4.38 recently. The district he plays in is one of the top 5 in terms of competitiveness in the states highest level (5A).

Mike McNair was one of the greatest high school linebackers that I ever saw. Why anyone thought he was a fullback was crazy.

    McNair

<t>Mike McNair, oh yeah, Greatest recruiting tape I've ever seen! I thought this kid was going to come to ND and break every rushing record on the the Irish books! Right.......I Never have put much stock in recruiting videos/tapes since then. Nice kid, not a good RB. Should have been at LB from the beginning.</t>

From what I remember McNair never wanted to play LB, and I think with all of his foot problems he probably never would have played even if he'd started at LB.

I think he did move to LB for like 2 weeks one time but didn't like it. If I remember the same thing happened with Joey Goodspeed, he was tried at LB but inspite of being a kid who was said to have AA potential at either LB or FB coming out of HS, he no longer had the mentality to play LB.

    USC

<t>Well I see USC continues NOT to be hampered at all by the loss of scholarships. They took 16 in last years class and they are up to 18 so far this year. Guess they will stop when the NCAA tells them.</t>

So there you have it. Carlo and Tommy out for Navy. For the QB battle I have to assume that the majority of the reps now will go to Golson and Hendrix. I certainly expect Kiel to redshirt so he doesn't really need the reps and if Tommy is not even going then they really need to focus on Golson and Hendrix.

BTW: I wonder how this squares philosophically with the treatment that Floyd recieved. Carlo IMHO got screwed in this deal, no way what he did was the same as Tommy. On the other hand I guess his people didn't think they needed to step in on this either! :)

You are right Sid, there was a foreboding feeling amongst a lot of ND fans that Kelly would go with Tommy as the "devil he knows" rather than go with Golson who has supposedly more potential.

Collective relief that Tommy will not be at the Navy game can be felt like a disturbance in the Force! :)

I'm neither for nor against Rees being the starter. I simply respect the coach's decision, whoever it may be. What bothers me is the lack of respect by some, not all, toward the kid during and following last season by people who have no idea what kind of ability, determination, and heart it takes to be a big-time college football player. After all these years, I know it comes with the territory, but I've never liked it.

I dropped in on the BGI Facebook page and they are celebrating Rees punishment like it was OJ being convicted instead of aquitted. They are already penciling Golson in as the savior of the program and a future Heisman winner. At 5'10" and about 180 lbs. he must be something special. If not, we will be eulogizing him :D . I was reminded why I cancelled my subscription to BGI after ten years.

I agree with Terry about Carlo. He was a legal drinker and denies ever saying what he is accused of saying. I can tell you they have no witnesses to this . And even if he did, so what? Did these cops really feel threatened? Up to three months ago my son and I were planning on going to Dublin. We cancelled for other reasons but Carlo Sr. is stuck big time with a block of tickets and five days worth of activities planned. Now he can take a haircut on all the money he has forked over so far or go to Ireland and leave his son behind.

At least we can look forward to Mr. Softee playing a whole game at LB. :x
