Joe clearly had a falling out with Kelly, and it happened in the first year. Now Nate left ND for a semester at JC in So. Cal. But even at that JC he didn't get to play much. He came back to ND for Spring Drills of 2011 and then left for Montana or Montana St. I forget which. Somewhere along the line Joe thought Kelly screwed over somebody. Maybe the only reason he sent the kid to a Calif JC is that Kelly suggested it and made a promise that he didn't hold up when Nate came back. Maybe he just never liked the way Kelly acted, you know the yelling. I don't know but Joe would have been better off deferring the question or saying something less controversial. But he's entitled to his opinion and in the end no body will remember this and Joe will still be one of the greatest ND QB's ever.
Everybody just hold up one flipping second. I dare you... I flat ass challenge you to go back and watch Kelly's teams at Cincinnati, especially those years in which he 'made a name for himself' and count all of the QBs that played.. I sat by shaking my head while everyone threw Dane Crist under the bus because Kelly allegedly knew what he was talking about. Now Joe Montana is just a bitter old dad...hold up and check your heads. When it comes to football, we know Joe Montana knows his ****. He may be a bitter father, but does that really impact his assessment? Is the prostitute really a bad eye witness because she's a whore? (no poking the eye out jokes, AJ ) When it comes to football, Joe Montana knows his **** especially on the field. Right now, I think I've seen that Kelly is a tremendous recruiter and wonderful organizer.. but I haven't seen anything that shows me he knows **** about big time football played under the bright lights and the big American flag..
I'm just wondering how many times that Joe has seen Golson throw. I read somewhere that Golson is 6th in high school career TD passes 151. He completed 63% of his passes. The big knock about the kid is his size. I believe that last year Golson was on the prep team running the other team's plays. I willing to bet that Montana hasn't seen Golson throw one pass this fall camp. I don't dispute that he knows football but I do doubt he knows Golson.
Agreed. No one with a brain would dispute that Joe knows how to play football at the very highest level and that he is a flat-out winner on the field, but that doesn't mean he knows anything about coaching. If he did, he would have recognized during Nate's HS years that he wasn't cut out to be a D1 QB, and he would have steered him to a DII or DIII or even an NAIA school. Instead, he threw his own son to the wolves by sending him to ND to play QB. Maybe Weis would have worked him into the rotation. Kelly chose not to. That's a coach's prerogative. The tell for me was the way he answered the question in the interview with an all-out bashing of Kelly, clearly designed to make a point. People at Joe's level who understand how to conduct interviews don't throw their alma mater teams - or coaches - under the bus unless they have a personal agenda. In the end, I agree with Terry that we all will forget this and remember Joe only as one of the greatest QBs in ND history.
Any assessment of Golson's passing ability is pure speculation at this point since he has not thrown one yet.
GIPPER!! SID!! I'm jealous!!....not for the FB but for the golf.... Pictures and post game briefs will be a must upon return!! Have a great time guys!!
Also, if you find time, the sleepy little town of Leixlip (pronounced Leeks Lip) is where Intel built its Ireland operations. You would be visiting the same area of the countryside that I have been through many times. The town of Leixlip Ireland However, if you stop off in Maynooth, a town just West of Leixlip, do not pronounce it like it is spelled. The locals get pretty pissy over it. It is pronounced: May Nute - heavy on the T at the end. 8)
So Sid's going as well...Skybox Irish will be well represented! Tom, I've been to the Guinness brewery in Dublin and did the tour and all is that the same as "The Storehouse"?
Notre Dame needs more criminals on the team.... http://bleacherreport.com/tb/d8lcz?...m=newsletter&utm_campaign=notre-dame-football
Yeah that has gone viral...I think I understand what he means, I am pretty sure Lou once said something about needing some guys who ride motorcycles...ie tough guys. But using the word criminals and what's worse is dragging Ohio State into it and claiming their best teams always had a few criminals...that's not going to sit well with the Buckeyes. I wonder if he will issue a clarification, even though he declined to clarify his remarks by the host of the radio show. I could see him losing his job over this.
Yeah, Paul made remarks that made it look like he was a racist and subscribed to the theory that blacks aren't smart enough to get into ND. I don't think that was what he meant, just that ND academic standards hurt them in recruiting esp black athletes....that is the truth and it's still the truth today. Of course we have plenty of black athletes and have for a long time but there is no doubt that esp with poor black kids from SEC country who can get into SEC schools easily can't qualify for ND. But it was ill advised. Paul was a white making a gaff about blacks, that is always punished greater than when a black guy making a similar gaff.
He didn't insinuate that blacks weren't smart enough to get into ND. He said most top ***** black athletes aren't smart enough. I don't think he's wrong. As a point of reference, I was neither smart enough nor talented enough at football to get into ND.
