I see that the Irish women soccer team beat CAL 5-2. Next up is a showdown with #6 ranked Stanford. Irish are currently #12 ranked, the ACC is loaded with ranked teams.

I'd forgotten about the sometimes acrimonious history of the ND/Ga.Tech series. From an article written by Lou Somogyi back in 2020. https://notredame.rivals.com/news/notre-dame-georgia-tech-past-southern-discomfort In the 15 years from 1967 through 1981, the Fighting Irish and Yellow Jackets played 12 times, with a three-year hiatus from 1971-73 the lone interruption. Unfortunately, the series became notorious for the lack of southern hospitality during Notre Dame’s visits in the 1960s and 1970s that included an anti-Catholic sentiment, plus the fact that southern schools didn’t begin to integrate their rosters with black players until after 1970. Frequently on Notre Dame’s visits to Georgia Tech, dead fish (symbolizing the Catholic protocol to eat fish on Fridays) were hurled at the Irish sideline from the stands, and soon other trajectories such as liquor bottles, ice and even eggs became part of the ritual.
Whose idea was it to wear white pants? First time I’ve disagreed with uniform choice. IMO it looks hokey. Fortunately at 21-7 if hasn’t affected our play so far.
Don't know about the uniforms, but I am guessing that it had something to do with Ga Tech getting to wear white at a home game. I am also guessing that the players wanted to wear white pants with the home blue. The kids like them.
Solid win for the Irish. Defense played well and the offense did as well for most of the game. Those fakes in the kicking game were fun.
I will say that I was surprised at the Tech coach in the final minute his QB was really put at risk for nothing. He did finally get a score even though it was meaningless. The kid took a lot of hits.
Even losing a high NFL draft choice, this defense continues to play well. Our O line is adequate but inconsistant. Our special teams had a great day. They blocked a FG attempt, got a first down on a fake FG try and Zac Yoakam did a nice job filling in at kicker. Jer Love is really fun to watch.
Looking back at the Ga.Tech win, it was a good solid win but not spectacular and the Irish cooled off on offense in the 2nd half when they needed to keep the foot on the gas. It was great that we pulled off a couple of special teams plays, but we shouldn't have had to do that when we were ahead. Our young OL is growing but they aren't a dominant OL and it hurts our offense. Riley Leonard is getting better but he's not really better than a good QB not a great QB. He's making plays with his legs and at that he's amazing, but just adequate as a passer and maybe just barely adequate. That's up from awful at the start of the season. So glad for the win, the defense played well but they don't look like the Georgia defense that's for sure and they will have their hands full vs Navy esp since the Academy has added a credible passing option. We have some young players who have never seen the option like Navy runs it, and that will be the difference, can Golden get them in position to win. Can they be disciplined enough to play the assignment football you have to play vs Navy. We know that Navy will posses the ball and eat up clock, so as always the Irish need to score nearly every time that they get the ball. I think we win, but it will be a close game.
This game could be short by college football standards. NDi is a lot like Navy in that it relies more on long drives rather than big plays. Traditionally, stopping Navy on first down would be a winning strategy since their offens relied on medium gain running plays. Now they have plays for third and long. Possessions will be valuable and turnovers will be more costly than usual. Navy is first in the NCAA in turnover margin per game. The Irish might not have to win the turnover battle but they sure better not lose it.
