    Nevada's QB ran for 2000 yards last season? That can't be right.

    Sure it can be, George. It's a Navy-type offense, and it's an average of 167 yds. over 12 games.

    Nope, they have it flipped. The kid is a fantastic talent, but he ran for 1200 and passed for 2000+

    I never heard of him until today and I follow the college game pretty closely. I assume that's an all time record for QBs?

    kaper?

    <t>I watched Nevada's bowl game with Maryland and the Terps seemed to control that game very well. That was with several Terps starters out the whole 1st half for some team violations prior to the game. With all the starters in the 2nd half it just wasn't much of a contest and Maryland seemed to wear them down. <br/>
    <br/>
    That QB can be a pain in the butt but if ND you can control him and not let him run, he'll have a long day.</t>

    From Everything I've read, they have a very prolific offense........but they must also play defense. Heh-heh.

    I'm reading that Tyler Eiffert is having a great fall camp and might be one of the freshman to play early this year. I'm just a little disappointed that I'm not reading great things about the other Ft. Wayne kid, John Goodman, not reading anything negative just no glowing descriptions. I really thought with his speed and hands that he would take control of the slot receiver position this fall.

    The 2 Freshman RB's are getting a lot of good press, suprisingly to me Wood is the "bruiser" of the 2. Riddick is said to be very fast and elusive, I never got that when we recruited him. In fact I wasn't very excited when we recruited him.

    2 weeks!

    Terry....

    <t>What I enjoyed doing yesterday was watching all the interview clips with the freshmen. If you haven't already notice the one on S.Evans. Talk about a sharp young man and I'm not surprised the Toma kid has looked good. IMO he will prove to be much more than a "buddy" of MT and soon.<br/>

    Check the local listings in the Comical today and at least we will be able to see some good high school matchups on TV starting this weekend. With this miserable summer we have had in Houston this helps...... LOL !!</t>

    Tausch

    <r>I see Weis announced today that Nick Tausch had won both the placekicking and kickoff jobs and it wasn't even close. That's damn impressive for a true freshman! Could it be that for the first time in I don't know how long ND will start the season without HUGE question marks on the kicking game? <E>8)</E></r>

    Deion Walker

    <r>I can't believe how Deion Walker has seemingly gotten lost in the shuffle and we're not even hearing his name mentioned much at all even on the 3 deep! Right now I'm hearing lot's of good things about S. Evans getting some playing time right away and with Kamara still on the mend it may be sooner than later. Walker was listed as a 4 or 5 star recruit depending on which recruiting service you used but things don't look good for him right now. <E>:?</E></r>

    I feel bad for Brandon Walker, I read an article that was written about him on ISD and he really seemed like a great kid and I was rooting for him to show the leg and accuracy he had in the 2nd half of last season when he finished 13 for 17. But having real competition makes the team better and you have to let the best guy play not show favortism to upper classmen. I'm ok with giving the Jr or Sr the edge when things are essentially equal, but this doesn't sound like the way it worked out.

    I like what I'm hearing about Evans as well, he's got speed and I did finally see some good things about Goodman. I'm a little leery of Kamara he really seemed to have hands of stone last year. Walker is a mystery, last year the word was that he just didn't pickup the playbook very fast, this year he seems to be inconsistent in the way he practices and the other guys are going past him..essentially out working him.

    Robt Hughes seems to be getting lost as well, I really thought he'd be that big back that it's always nice to have. But he's not having a good camp and I'll bet Jonas Gray ends up at #2.

    All in all I'm ready to have some of that Holtzaide and whup up on Nevada.

    ND Fall camp

    <r>Terry,<br/>
    <br/>
    I was looking for Hughes to be the man also but as you say it looks more and more like Gray is the guy who may be looking at more playing time behind A. Allen.<br/>
    <br/>
    I'm looking forward to getting the season started also but I just don't want to get my hopes up this year only to have them thrown out the window first game of the season again. <br/>
    <br/>
    I read all the good news coming from the fall camp but as far as I'm concerned <B><s></s>THE<e></e></B> one part of ND's game that HAS to be better in order for them to have a good season is the <B><s></s>O-Line<e></e></B> !. I really think it all hinges on the big guys. It's been <B><s></s>TH<e></e></B>E major problem the past 2 seasons and hopefully, hopefully, <B><s></s>HOPEFULLY<e></e></B> Verducci will have the guys ready this year. <br/>
    <br/>
    Until I see it, not <B><s></s>hear<e></e></B> it...I will have to hold back my enthusiasm. <br/>
    <br/>
    God we need a good season!</r>

    While like you I feel some sympathy for Walker, I'm really glad Burkhart is done. What a complete bust he was. Now in his fourth year, he is beaten out by a freshman. That says it all.
    Tausch must be pretty consistant to beat out last year's starter. It's just another example of how we're improving across the board.
    I'm expecting to see one of the frosh RBs running back KOs too. A dozen days to the debut.

    As I've mentioned before, our current RB coach has a strong record for backs that don't fumble the ball. Every time I saw Jonas touch the ball last year, I thought he had 'it' but he didn't always have the ball.. If he corrects that, he could be special.

    If he fumbles, I'm all about the way Holtz use to deal with that situation.

    We're in a situation in which it appears we have a couple slashers and a bruiser or two. I could even see Hughes moving to FB once Aldridge graduates. We have some guys who have to get on the field...

    But Tim made the best point, if we don't block it just won't matter.

    Weis made a comment about Hughes needing to decide what type of back that he wants to be, a big bruiser or a slasher. I got that if Robt wanted to be that Slasher then Weis said he was going to have to lose some weight, not so if he wanted to be the big bruiser type. I wonder if Hughes is caught between, mentally wanting to be the back where he has to lose some weight but not being able to lose that weight.

    I'm also getting a good feeling that the Irish have solid upper class leadership, something that we have lacked in the last 2 years being such a young team.

    You're familiar with my mantra, so you won't be surprised that I share your good feeling.

    I replaced my kicker on my CBS team with Brandon Walker. Guess I'd better look for someone else.

    Edit: I just replaced Walker with Nick Tausch. Whew!

    I haven't looked, but I wonder if Tausch is available as a kicker.

    On Hughes moving to FB, while he is a big kid he doesn't seem to be the guy who runs over people, he seems to want to play like he's 5'9" 175lbs with speed.

    I love this video of the 2005 Tenn game. I'm sure Tom hates it, but one thing you'll notice early in the video is the number of Tenn students mixed in the Notre Dame students. ND students who have made the trip to Knoxville the times we've played down there always report great times, courteous fans and a great atmosphere. ND tries to return the favor. :)
