Well Irish Womens Basketball team went to UConn and put up a hell of a fight considering that their 2 best post players were on the bench. Freshman Marina Mabery continues her outstanding start to her ND career by scoring 21 points. But it was still a 10 point loss, while I doubt the team feels the same as I do, but to tell you the truth that almost feels like a victory given how UConn recently blew out a 100% healthy top 10 Ohio State team and we were down 2 important players. There is some chance that Turner could be back in January, and Reimer will be touch and go with her playing time and return to 100%. We should still be a top 10 team but probably not as good we might have been with Turner at 100%, she really is a great player, potential was there for her to be a 1st team AA this year. On football Kelly has said that Jarron Jones is cleared to practice and should play vs Ohio State and that Durham Smythe is also cleared to practice and should play vs Ohio State. C. J. Prosisse is not cleared to practice yet and is day to day. Also the ACC has admitted that the critical Pass Interference against Butler that lead to one of the Stanford TD's should not have been called. Too late of course to help the Irish. But it'd have been moot if we could have covered the Stanford WR in the last 30 seconds.
Daelin Hayes...talk about ranking based on potential. I got this off another board. He is highly rated but based on what? Also I didn't know his injury history. I hope it's not something that will dog him his whole career if he comes to ND. Sophomore year: Played 4 plays before injury (left shoulder) cost him the entire season. Then committed to USC. Junior Year: Moved from Michigan to California. Played 3 games before custody battle cost him the rest of the season. Moved back to Michigan. Senior Year: Played two games before injury (right shoulder) cost him the entire season. He earned his recruiting 5 star ranking by looking great at Rivals camps, like the one where he earned the MVP despite having to leave early because he, wait for it, injured his shoulder.
Kelly on Uncle Rico. Q. Just kind of big picture, you've had 25 games with VanGorder as the defensive coordinator. Is your defense where you thought it would be two years ago? BRIAN KELLY: Well, I think we always judge it by the whole. We're a better football team than we were 25 games ago, and that's the most important thing. So my question -- the question would be answered in that as a whole, as a football team, we're a better football team than we were 25 games ago.
USA Today has named Sheldon Day and Jaylon Smith as 1st team AA and Will Fuller as a 2nd team AA. Funny thing is that as our defense has struggled a lot...we have more 1st team AA on defense than either Fla or Alabama. In fact no team but ND has 2 first team AA on defense. I guess it's the rest of the defense that's the problem! http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2015/12/08/all-america-college-football-team/76965922/
Who..me? I think Urban knows enough about UF bowl history that he won't be caught off guard by ND's abilities.
In the world of La Cosa Nostra, that is the kiss on the cheek. Usually followed shortly thereafter by two behind the ear.
Speaking of Uncle Rico, the Irish just had Shedon Day and Jaylon Smith named as First Team All-Americans. It's hard to beleive that any defense anchored by two dominant players like these could give up so much real estate on a regular basis. I have the Buckeyes penciled in for 30-35 already We will have to outscore them which I think we will.
Jaylon Smith won the Butkus Award as the top LB. Ronnie Stanley won the Polynesian Player of the Year award..... if you did a double take and said I didn't know Ronnie Stanley was Polynesian, then you are like me. Oh and here's a complete list of the previous winners.. 1. Marcus Mariota. 2. Ronnie Stanley. That's it!
George, front 7 vs. back 4. Our front seven was as good as any front seven in the country. Our back 4.....not so much.
Watched most of the ND/Stoneybrook game last night, Irish won and looked pretty good doing it. Brey post game was very happy with the win. Auguste and Jackson looked good, still not seeing what we saw last year. They have 4 more games in Dec before they start ACC games, including the Crossroads Classic vs IU. Still a work in progress. No news on the football front.
5* LB Daelin Hayes committed to the Irish today. My only concern is that he's really not played that much HS ball due to various reasons including shoulder surgeries. He has reportedly blown people away in the various combines that Nike, Under Armour, etc run around the country but that's not playing football But no matter I'm glad we got him and I hope he's healthy and ready to play when he arrives, he will be an early enrollee.
I do as well Gip. Grace and Collinsworth really had promising careers before their injuries. Nick Barratti is another one and now I worry about Drue Tranquill, a very talented kid who has not been able to finish either his freshman or soph years due to injuries.
from SBT The only thing clouding Hayes’ future is a history of shoulder injuries that cut multiple seasons short in high school. With a clean bill of health, he could have the highest ceiling of anyone in Notre Dame’s 2016 recruiting class. “From an upside standpoint, Daelin Hayes has an absolute ton of it,” Wiltfong said. “He's a guy who can grow into a fantastic edge rusher. That's a position where Notre Dame has not really had a consistent difference maker. He could be a bona fide pass rusher for several years at Notre Dame. “Unfortunately, he's battled injuries his entire high school career. He's still growing into his frame. But when you see him in a camp setting, he's got big-time athleticism among some of the nation's best at some of the top events. I just hope for him that he's able to stay healthy in South Bend. If he's able to do that, I really think he's going to be a great player for the Irish.”
ND <r>Not sure I like this type of stuff but for what it's worth:<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www.uhnd.com/articles/recruiting/daelin-hayes-wins-commitment-announcement-26156/"><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.uhnd.com/articles/recruiting ... ent-26156/">http://www.uhnd.com/articles/recruiting/daelin-hayes-wins-commitment-announcement-26156/</LINK_TEXT></URL></r>
Parker Boudreau had a pretty good commitment film as well, but like you I would just as soon they call the staff and give them the good news and forget the news conferences with the hats and now the videos. But kids today are much more into "me" and letting everybody know what "me" is doing via Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Vine, etc.
