Irish baseball ranked #23 in the latest D1 Baseball Poll. I don't follow college baseball closely - only ND - so I don't know where the D1 poll stands in terms of credibility. Regardless, it's a nice thing to see.
What a great 1st half of Irish Women's basketball against a great OSU team. Buckeyes jumped on us early and ran out to a 11-0 lead but the Irish have not given up and fought back to lead 43-35 at the half. Lot of basketball left to play though. Buckeyes are a deeper team and this game is being played at a frantic pace that could wear down the Irish late in the game.
Irish take down the Buckeyes and survive an incredible offensive output by Jalani Cambridge of 41 points to win in Columbus by 83-73. Irish as I said got down 11-0 but after that they outscored the Buckeyes 82-62. Hannah Hidalgo as always wes the key to the Irish win, she played like the All American that she it, such a tough refuse to lose player. 5th straight sweet 16 by the Irish, a team that a number of people wanted Ivey fired in January. Heck of a job by her with the roster that she had to work with all season.
News around the Mens BBall program isn't good. Sir Muhammed and Garret Sundra have hit the portal and more are predicted to be leaving. Also rumours that Shrewsberry was a candidate for the open Butler job are just thet and it's being reported that he will be back for a 4th year. I have to wonder about Markus Burton. He's got one year left and if next years team is going to be a mess then it would seem to me that if he has opportunities to go to a program that has a legitimate chance at making the NCAA's that he should seriously consider leaving no matter what the Irish might offer him in NIL.
Here's a little nugget that speaks to how well Hartline did his job recruiting and developing these kids while in Columbus....crazy numbers here. "After Jaxon Smith-Njigba signed a record-breaking four-year, $168.6 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks — making him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history — the total value of current contracts for former Ohio State wideouts has surged to nearly half a billion dollars: Jaxon Smith-Njigba: $168.6 million Garrett Wilson: $130 million Terry McLaurin: $97 million Marvin Harrison Jr.: $35.4 million Chris Olave: $19.3 million Emeka Egbuka: $18.2 million Total: $468.5 million" Mind boggling to think that Harrison, Olave and Egbuka are still on their rookie contracts. With their new contracts - assuming no injuries - and certainly with the additions of Tate and JJ, that total is gonna approach 1 $Billion$ in the near future.
No doubt about what Hartline did while at Ohio State was simply amazing. You guys are going to miss him.
Mens lacrosse doing well but hav a tough schedule. they are currently 6-0 and ranked #1 in the country. this Sat @ UVA (rec votes in top 25) 4/4 vs. #2 Richmond 4/11 vs. #4 UNC 4/18 vs. #6 Duke 4/25 vs. #5 Cuse They have already beaten #14 G'town, #12 Maryland & #8 OSU. So they already have some nice wins under their belt.
Ugh...from Tom Noie. When sophomores Sir Mohammed and Garrett Sundra and freshman Ryder Frost announced plans to enter the transfer portal, which opens April 7, it had little to do with a chance to make more money elsewhere as it did the chance to play more minutes elsewhere. Somewhere. Anywhere but here. The three, for myriad reasons, never became key rotation players in Shrewsberry’s system. Each leave for more opportunity on the basketball court. The next three expected to exit ― Markus Burton (a Michiana native), Cole Certa (Shrewsberry’s first recruit to Notre Dame) and Jalen Haralson (the highest-rated recruit in program history) ― will depart, in large part, to deepen their bank accounts. Each could make close to or beyond seven figures as college basketball players. They’re less interested in earning a Notre Dame degree and more interested in earning money. More money than they ever dreamed of playing this game. That matters. That is college basketball today. This four for 40 stuff that Notre Dame so trumpets was nice while it lasted, but it ran its course even before former head coach Mike Brey decided that it was time to get out after 23 seasons and 483 wins.
After giving up a big lead and missing several 3 point tries in the 4th quarter, ND women rally to upset 2-seed Vanderbilt in a close finish behind the steals, ball handling, shooting, and key assists of Hannah Hildago.
Looked like a birck throwing contest by the Irish in the second half. Another battle with Gino. They're going to have to shoot the lights out to win that one.
Hannah is a refuse to.lose player. 100% effort. Awesome win for this team and great job by the coaches.. UCONN? I don't doubt our heart, our want to, but they have so much talemt that I don't see us winning.
Optimism running high in South Bend. from the podcast world. Carr has made a jump both physically and mentally. Remember he gets all 1st team reps this year. Graham seems to be home run add at wide receiver, Cam Williams seems to have turned the corner. I don't think Will Black is going back to guard. Burgess seems to have everyone's attention at DT. Dallas Golden is a next in line star, where will he play? It's possible he might not even start. Johnson has been superman at safety. Deep talent across the board. First year Markus will have his OC, DC and STC returning (no new systems, verbiage, etc.) Surprised we haven't heard more about Keeley and Walton.
