I didn't watch but another tough loss for the Irish men at home to UVA . Double OT, but reported that we blew a 19 point lead and had opportunity to win in regulation and both OT but couldn't get it done.
Bob, Please don't miss my point. I realize the back end of their schedule is tough. My point is that ND would get raked over the coals if the start of their schedule was the same as IUs.
Our schedule isn't especially tough either . 5 ACC teams, including Miami. with 3 Big 10 teams along with Rice and Navy. We do open with Wisconsin at Lambeau field. In year's past that would be a strong opener. But not sure what Wisconsin will be like this year
Tim, I just felt that one had to look at Indiana’s entire schedule to judge it. They are playing 9 bowl teams. In comparison, Miami’s schedule certainly looks soft but nobody is focusing on them. Sept. 4 - at Stanford Sept. 10 - vs. Florida A&M Sept. 18 - at Wake Forest Sept. 26 - vs. Central Michigan Oct. 3 - at Clemson Oct. 10 - Off Week Oct. 17 - vs. Florida State Oct. 24 - vs. Pittsburgh Oct. 31 - at North Carolina Nov. 7 - at Notre Dame Nov. 14 - vs. Duke Nov. 20 - vs. Virginia Tech Nov. 28 - vs. Boston College In ND’s case, when they scheduled MSU and Wisconsin, both were solid nationally recognized programs. Can’t fault ND for failing to foresee that both were going to implode.
Thanks, Bob. I've been saying that for years. It's nice to have someone outside the ND "family" acknowledge it. Re: Tim's post. Tim, I understand what you're saying, but after IU won the B10 championship and went on to win the national championship, just like Ohio State and Michigan in the 2 prior years, no one in his/her right mind is going to criticize IU's schedule or the B10 in general. Our friends down south may not agree, but it's apparent to me that the B10 and the SEC are pretty darn close, if not equal, in overall SOS.
For what it’s worth the B10 has currently surpassed the SEC or at best matched them, yeah I know that’s sacrilegious to the networks but it’s becoming apparent. As far as Miami’s schedule it’s a current ACC schedule in a league that’s teetering. 2030 offers the $75 mil buyout that will see Clemson, FSU and Miami eyeing other pastures to feed on.
Strength of Schedule has nothing to do with anyone doing anything wrong. Conferences schedules are set. Sometimes you have a tough schedule and sometimes you don’t. But it should still be a consideration in the rankings. Indiana finished undefeated and won decisively. There is no debating that. If you don’t lose a game, there will never be any doubt about getting into the playoffs. The problem comes when you do lose a game or two and you have played 4, 5 or 6 ranked teams. How do you decide who is number 12 and number 13? I submit that SOS has to be a key component of those decisions. I do think that playing a tough out of conference opponent is stupid under the current system. There is no upside.

Irish women lost at CAL last night. They played hard but had so many fouls, all the players had 4 fouls. It didn't help that CAL shot 70% from 3 point land. Also looks like more turnover on the football staff. Mickens left for Baltimore and Al Washington is leaving for the Dolphins. Freeman has some good candidates for both positions. I guess it's what happens when you have success on the field. Saban had this every year.
Rumours flying around that the Irish are leaving the ACC and all sports, except football, will join the Big East. Football will have a limited scheduling agreement with the Big 10 and the SEC. I wonder where the money is coming from to buyout of the ACC deal
