Irish get a call at the end that most agree that the ref shouldn't have made the call. Tae Davis makes the free though for the win. Next up is UNC, a team with a much better roster, who we almost beat the last time we played but I will be surprised if we can compete with them.
I saw a social media post from a which referred to Luke Talich as “former walk-on”. Didn’t know but not surprised. IMO he’s a legit high level talent.
Yeah Luke turned down Div 1 scholarships to be a PWO at ND, and he earned a scholarship after his freshman year. He's from somewhere in Wyoming and had a great HS career but it's Wyoming and the competition isn't great, but he believed in his talent and wanted to play at ND. He's been great as a special teams player and did get a pick 6 in a game this year. To me he's a ND kid.
Coach McGraw on the Irish women's BB. Good read. Analyst Muffet McGraw sees the Notre Dame WBB team's flaws as fixable
The Irish were not competitive with UNC today and got beat handily by 20 points. UNC isn't even a great team this year and they are on the bubble. Shrewsberry will lose 8 seniors from this team, he's got some good players in his incoming freshman class, but they will be freshmen. I imagine that he'll also be bringing in some portal guys, but with the Covid exception finally having worked it's way through the system, there won't be any 4 year Seniors who can grad transfer. There is some hint the NCAA is ready to go to a 5 year scholarship and eliminate the need for redshirts altogether so if they do that in time there might be some players.
In a big surprise, Irish Hockey, took down the Gophers in Minnesota to advance in the Big 10 Hockey Tournament. This hasn't been a good season for them and an early exit was expected. This is Jackson's last hurrah as he's retiring at the end of the season. Unlikely we'll sneak up on Michigan in the next round.
Irish Hockey lost to MSU and their season is over and so is Jeff Jacksons tenure at Notre Dame. Good luck in retirement coach. Irish Track has a 3 peat in the Women's Pentathlon. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Jadin O’Brien broke her own school record along with the ACC and facility records en route to earning her third-consecutive NCAA pentathlon champion on Friday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Men's lacrosse got back in the winning column with a solid win in Ann Arbor over Michigan.
The women got a #3 seed, quite a let down from where they were after ascending to #1 for a week. But many feel our draw is pretty good and we still have a good shot at a Final Four.
Irish opened Spring Drills today, Freeman had a press conference today but didn't say much of consequence. They moved this day 2 weeks because of the deep run in the playoffs and will still have the Sprog game.
Irish Women had a blowout win vs Stephen F. Austin, 11 players scored and we hit 106. It came with a cost as Olivia Miles went down in the 4th qtr with an ankle injury, she was able to walk gingerly off the court but it's not known if she will be available at all for the round of 32 game with Michigan and even if she is will it be 100%.
Sorry to hear that kind of news Terry. Moving forward without her will be difficult for the Irish Ladies.
Well Miles was back and had a good game as the Irish handily beat Michigan 76-55. Star of the game was Liatu King who was 7-7 from the field 4-4 from the line and pulled down 15 rebounds. Terrific defense by the ladies. Michigan is very young and has 2 really good freshmen, so they could be a load next year. On to the Sweet 16 for the 4th year to face the winner of the Louisville/TCU game.
Tae Davis one of our best players, after Markus Burton, has entered the transfer portal. Big loss for the team.
Ladies loooked like they have gotten their mojo back. Hope it continues. They're talented enough to go deep.
A lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth over the state of the Irish baseball program. It's basically non competitive in the ACC. Link Jarrett showed what is possible, current coach just not getting it done. Hopefully the new AD will make the changes necessary to field a good competitive program.
Irish ladies go down to TCU, the TCU defense held us to terrible shooting and Haley Van Lith just beat us every way you can do it. Sedona Prince was big, and not just because she's 67", she's a great FT shooter and a presence in the middle. Sad to see it end for these ladies, they had a great year for the most part but something happened to us after we lost that 2OT game to NC State and we never really got our MOJO back. I'll miss Maddie Westbeld, Sonia Citron and likely Olivia Miles. Next years team will be much different
