Seems like a lot of players come out of Damian,in more than just football.

Damien is quite an operation. The other coaches in this area call it "The University of Damien" and many of them send their own boys to Damien rather than the public school that they coach at. Since I left there in 1968, the school has won state and national titles in soccer, basketball, swimming and debate. Athletes who have played there include Olympic sprinter Geoff Vanderstock, baseball player Mark McGwire, and football player Dennis Shaw. It's currently undergoing another expansion with the addition of more laboratories and classrooms.

What's the enrollment at Damien? Are they as big as Bishop Amat and Mater Dei?

The last time that I looked, Damien's enrollment was around 1200 boys. Mater Dei is the largest Catholic school in the state. They use every inch of space that they have and their basketball team plays at the Anaheim Convention Center across from Disneyland. They also have no room for their football team, which has to walk a long way to an off-campus practice facility.
Bishop Amat is a strange place. They are Damien's sister school, but all similarities end there. It looks like a public elementary school, because that's what it was. The archdiocese bought an old school in the 1950's, removed the jungle gyms and other playground equipment and began to admit students, including girls. Their current enrollment is around 1500.

I still hear a lot about Mater Dei, and not so much about Amat, seems like some of the other Catholic Schools like Servite and St. John Bosco have risen up...can't remember the last time I read about Amat having a great program at one time it seemed like So.Catholic football was dominated by Mater Dei and Amat..Pat Haden and Kory Minor were a long time ago.

Pretty amazing that Drew Brees and Tom Brady are still leading their teams in the playoffs. Looks like the Saints are going to beat the Bears and the Bucs beat the Washington Football Team yesterday.

Nothing has gone right for the Steelers, Big Ben has 3 picks and Baker Mayfield is playing very well. 35-10 at half, hard to imagine the Browns can collapse and lose this game. Browns RB's look very good. That's all the good news...the bad news is a big win here sends them to Kansas City to face the Chiefs! But I imagine long suffering Browns fans will take that in a heart beat!!

I don't post about the Browns here because it seems most of the folks here aren't avid NFL fans...

But as a long-suffering lifelong Browns fan...last night was special.

No doubt because it was not only a playoff win, but it was against the Steelers.

I'm not a lifelong Browns fan, but as a kid I chose Otto Graham over Bobby Layne as my favorite QB.

Funny how time erases some people...Otto Graham was a truly great QB but he's barely remembered, Bobby Layne was a truly great partier who also was a great QB! He's reportedly a legendary figure back in his day around the sorority houses at Texas.

First game my Dad took us to was Dr. Frank Ryan vs Roman Gabriel. Browns lost and the next game started the Bill Nelson era.

Let's go Saints! Drew Brees HS Team won the state championship yesterday, so it would be fitting for him to win today! Plus I like to see Brady lose! :p

You jinxed Drew Brees, Terry. Please don’t send any negative mojo to the Packers next Sunday!
