Yeah I had forgotten about Grossmans injuries. I won't feel sorry for him though, he's still on an NFL roster and as a 1st round draft choice he recieved millions of dollars and seems like the type of kid who wouldn't have blown it. NFL min is 300K or there abouts, so even if Rex spends the next 4 or 5 years as a back up on some roster he'll make a lot of money and be set to move into the business world well positioned for the future. Also had forgotten about John Reeves. Lot of excellent Gators with NFL careers, led by Emmitt Smith of course. But it seems to me you guys have had more defensive people make it in the NFL than offensive. I could be wrong, what do you think?
I think you are right about more defensive players than offensive players Terry. I think if I did a little research there are a number of offensive linemen who did very well also, but not wide receivers.
Todd Marinovich, Ryan Leaf, and Jeff George were all first round NFL picks. Guess it must have been the limo that did Clausen in. The NFL is so particular.
Something did him in. He will probably be OK in the long run but I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that none have felt the sting of a $30M loss.
Terry............... <t>" but he won't even experience the success that David Carr and Joey Harrington had as 1st round draft choices."<br/> <br/> You sure about that? Lets see how a guy with his makeup does. I disagree.</t>
To be sure when I say that I think Tebow isn't going to make it, I'm not rooting against him. I just think he has played his whole life a certain way and to expect he is suddenly going to change to a different style is just wishing. The best he could hope for is to be sort of like Vince Young who has had only modest success in the NFL and most of the success he's had has been bolstered by the Titans having a very stingy defense.
Clausen off the board to Carolina. Good place for him, he will compete with Matt Moore and has a chance to play a lot next year. Don't know much about them other than Weis and Fox were friends and Carolina runs an offense that Jimmy should be familar with right away. I hope he has a great year as a rookie.
nd <r>I don't have any comment on the Tebow situation except to say I'm a little confused by it....I guess it will all play out one way or the other...<br/> <br/> Hate that J. Clausen fell so far in the draft but it looks like a good situation for him. If he had gone earlier he obviously could have had a lot more money but some real ugly situations to step into for a rookie QB. Good Luck Jimmy. it's time for the Irish to move on. Go Dayne! <E></E></r>
Golden Tate to the Seahawks, I'd be suprised if we have any other players drafted. Several will go as free agents but I think that's it for the Irish. Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley in the 3rd round to the Browns and the Bengals. They were great college players Shipley bears the white boy burden and he's barely 6'. Colt was no doubt hurt by arm strength. He'll work hard and he'll get stronger and if the Browns run a short passing game offense he could do well, just wouldn't fit an offense where it's more vertical. I think he'd have also fit the Texans style.
Good draft for the Gators.... "With two more of Urban Meyer's players getting drafted on Saturday, Florida finished with the most players selected in the draft with nine, two more than Alabama, Oklahoma and Southern Cal. The number was one short of the UF record of 10 set in 1978, in a 12-round draft." ......should help with recruiting..... 8)
OK I have to ask, who were the 12 Gators taken in 1978 and what kind of record did the Gators have for that team.
