Just going by the Skybox fans of other schools, they don't really care all that much for the alternate uniforms for special games either. So really it's apparently all about impressing kids. Not that kids shouldn't be considered. But there should be some consistency in the uniforms that are traditional. Irish uniforms are not the same as they were for Rockne, or Leahy, or Ara, or even Holtz. Is the Green that Paul Hornung and Joe Montana wore our traditional colors? Most would say no, but everybody was pretty happy with the uniforms that Joe Montana wore because he won a lot and a Nat'l Championship. If we win a lot and get another NC then all the worry about Jumbotrons, uniforms, etc will die. Heck there are still some who are pissed about the stadium expansion because of the change in the bricks and the view of Touchdown Jesus. If I am correct, Sid did not have a view of Touchdown Jesus when he was a student...because it wasn't built then.
The final months of construction were during my freshman year. It was completed and open for business by the beginning of my sophomore year.
My first thought looking at the new helmets was that it was kind of weird having the shamrocks growing right out of the earholes...then I noticed that the helmets you wore for Michigan had the same thing.... But now I see that it's a tradition since 1959...
