Speaking of which.... I had a long chat with Carlo Calabrese Sr who said his son is really down at the moment because of having his playing time cut in favor of Dan Fox. The official reason given was that Fox was better on pass defense but in fact only Carlo has broken up any passes this year with three of them. He also has moved ahead of Fox in tackles even though Fox has more plays. Apparently DC Diaco is a little puzzled as well. I think this situation will correct itself but the kid is confused with how he is being handled
I could understand the original thought, Fox being more athletic and "possibly" better in coverage. But so far that hasn't worked out, and if it keeps going this way I'd expect Carlo to earn the starting nod back in the future. On that last gasp play by Pitt I didn't quite understand why Carlo was in there though instead of another DB.
I'm bringing this back because I spent today's gamecast twitter feed bitching about Dan Fox getting beat in pass coverage. He can't stop the run and now he can't cover the pass. meanwhile, every time I see Carlo on the field, someone (not named Carlo) almost gets killed.. WTF is Diaco doing?
I don't know. Carlo damn near cut the QB in half on one tackle in the open field..... that was a Butkus hit. And his pass coverage drops have been better than Fox and Teo the last three games. He has played in a total of 13 games since last season started including the 50% playing time he has gotten in four games this year. He has a total of 80 tackles!
ND <t>The win over Pitt looks much better in light of the way they took care of USF and ran up overer 40 points. NDs D did a hell of a job on them.</t>
