You want to know how bad it is guys... I've spent 2 days being told 'Man, I'm sorry.' by Alabama alums/fans... and if you don't know how bad that is.. you don't know college football. They all readily admit the same thing I've been saying.. Nick Saban loses his flipping MIND.. at everyone!! reporters, players.. you name it.His wife must beat his ass... Anyway... even they noticed that sometimes you have to be the leader. Sometimes you have to stop yelling.. sometimes you gotta be the one to calm down the team. Instead, he continued to go bat **** and we melted down. This isn't rocket science. I've received the dreaded "man, I'm sorry" from Bama fans, Vol fans, USC fans, Miami fans... this is bad guys.. you're breaking out the broad brush stroke to miss the larger point. The fact that they scream isn't the issue. There comes a point in time when you stop screaming.. our guy doesn't know that and his answer Terry posted just confirms that.
I tend to agree with George here. I keep hoping that if I see more of old Shipwreck Kelly he'll wear on me and I'll get used to it..., but I doubt that I will. I was punched, kicked and dragged around by my facemask too and I learned nothing from the experience, except to use those incidents as bad examples, never to be repeated by me when I coached or taught. How this guy has won that many games using that approach is a mystery to me.
Notre Dame and Michigan history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_%E2%80%93_Notre_Dame_football_rivalry Wow!! Great history and football rivalry, my hats off to both your teams...
Dave/KP Thanks guys.. not helping. Ralph, yeah this is special in that way that neither really likes the other. People whoop about respect and history and blah blah blah, it's ********. Both sides have great fans, although with the very notable exception of Bobda, I have yet to see any concrete evidence of this on the Michigan side. I know for a fact that my most obnoxious Notre Dame fan friends (think about that for a minute) are going to be at this game. I once shared an elevator with John Carney's parents who were as nice as could be... who had to endure a tirade from a Michigan fan about what a piece of sh*t Notre Dame and their son was.. They handled that with much more class than I. My response was to threaten bodily harm (something I believe he wound up meeting with in the lobby), the Carneys just said 'It's Michigan, what do you expect?' They don't like us, we don't like them. Each side likes to play down the importance of the rivalry with the other. I'm good with all of this. I am putting aside my anger at Kelly as of right now. It's Michigan week. I hope we ruin their big parade Saturday.
I don't usually jump in to Notre Dame discussions...It just isn't wise...y'all don't even like folks telling you they're sorry. I usually confine my Notre Dame comments to a painfully written congratulations after you kick Purdue's arse. However...the one thing that struck me as different about Coach Kelly's tirades from the other tantrum throwers you mention; When ND was going for the two point conversion (would have been huge) and called timeout after lining up... THAT was a time for leadership and calming the troops...I don't know what he was so upset about (that there was confusion and the timeout was called giving the defense time to gather, maybe?) but all of his assistants were trying to get the players gathered around and get the play set up...and he was just yelling at everything that moved....and the conversion attempt failed. That just really struck me as a bad thing and prompted me to write the previous comment about his behavior. At the time I did not know that it would be something so widely commented on. Anyway...I'll talk to y'all in a few weeks when you kick our arse again. :?
Ralph, It is a strange rivalry. The team did not play each other from the early 40's until the late 70's. When it resumed, fans from both schools were happy that the series resumed and it seemed like there was mutual admiration between the fans of both schools. That ended pretty quickly. When you log onto ND or M sites now, the level of animosity displayed is akin to A&M and Texas: both sides dislike each other so much that they would be just as happy if they never played or saw each other again. The games are usually brawls and the losing team goes into a emotional tailspin after a loss that last for weeks. ND, with the exception of two recent games under Weiss and Ty, brings its A game to AA. I have no clue how this game will turn out as ND under Kelly has been a Jeckyl and Hyde show. If they show up with the team that thumped SC, Utah, and Miami my Wolvies will be in for a long afternoon as the Irish right now are more physical and more talented than M.
Sorry guys, don't know who Brutus is... Ahh c;mon Doc....it's CFB season....you know I'm the Conrad Dobler of this board...
Sparse turnout from the band of B10 brothers. So far, only the new guy is ready to step up to the plate. Karma is such that this pretty much guarantees that Nebraska will be the B10 champ Re Kelly's crimson-faced outbursts and heavy use of F Bombs when addressing player mistakes on national TV, I do not get to excited about that given that Knight won 3 national championships with a similar manmagement style but I was surprised that K changed the famous "Play Like a Champion" sign in the players tunnel leading out to the field. I thought the new sign might be considered a little over the top:
Experts giving the Irish the edge over Mich 28-24. I had to note that in evaluation of all the areas, they gave ND the edge in coaching!! Brady Hoke must be too calm on the sidelines!! Irish over UM
Lol... that Lucky Charms Lep would probably be better recieved by the ND nation than the shamrock we'll have on the helmets to remind of the Kuharich years.
