Yeah I don't know how they would have corrected that..wouldn't have been needed if Harrison Smith doesn't slip. I haven't watched a replay but some are saying that the MSU guy committed offensive PI. Don't know but that's what's being said.
Just watched it again. One MSU players tangles up both ND backs while the receiver next to him runs by and into the open. Doesn't look like either ND player slipped. Both were knocked down by the MSU player.
Can we PLEASE stop feeling sorry for guys who play the entire game on one side of the ball? My gosh! What has this world come to, that even the game announcers were expressing sympathy for these poor boys. We should be feeling sorry for the defense that they played the entire game. I've never been of such a critical mindset before, but I've concluded that our safeties are too slow and simply cannot tackle. Maybe it's my age making me grouchy, but too many times last night I saw our safeties and occasionally our CBs get either run over or juked out of their jockstraps in space. It seems that they hesitate and wait for the runner to come to them, which is exactly what they should NOT be doing. We have serious problems on defense.
Well it's almost time for another double dose of losing football. The Lions kick off in half and hour. :x
Just saw that Dantonio had a heart attack shortly after the game last night. http://www.freep.com/article/20100919/SPORTS07/100919012/1319/Dantonio-has-emergency-heart-surgery-after-OT-win Wonder if he ran into any ND fans at the hospital.
I hope he recovers and is back on the sidelines soon. He seems like a good guy and an excellent coach.
Very sorry to hear about the MSU coach. He seems like a good one... We must realize that we have a new coach, who's installing new systems, while using somebody else's players. Everything isn't going to fall into place all at once. Remember last week when Michigan scored two TDs, because no one was covering them? This week, we had a play on offense where BK sent out four receivers on a pass pattern and NONE of them turned around to catch it! ALL of them thought that they were last in the QB's progression, which means that NONE of them understood the purpose of the play or where it fit into the overall strategy... The Irish don't have enough players at some positions to do what Kelly wants to do, but he won't change his plans and those problems won't be fixed until recruiting fixes them. That's just the way it is. In the meantime, some changes might still be in order. I still don't understand why Goodman is on the bench and the freshman TJ Jones is playing. Jones was a non factor out there yesterday, because he doesn't know how to get open and Crist rarely looks for him... Watch out for Harbaugh and Stanford this Saturday. He's in the 4th year of running his program and they really think that they're going to go into South Bend and slap us around like little kids... We've lost to two undefeated teams at the end of the game. I refuse to panic. I'm curious to see if Stanford is as good as they think they are, and if we're as bad as they think we are... .........JO'Co
Stanford might just do that, slap us around. We have at best an average defense that so far hasn't show much consistency. Our offense is a good offense but right now we are sort of 1 dimensional, good at the pass sort of spotty against the run. I always hope for the win, but I have to acknowledge we are big underdogs to those guys this year.
Guys, Are you talking about ND or Tennessee? I think we are so similar this year. Too young, not enough Depth, and a new coach that in time will have us turned around.
I look at Zeke Motta and I see another Harrison Smith. You factor in that they are the starting safeties, and that we have little pass rush and it is hard to be real optimistic.
Doctors think Dantonio's HA may have been brought on by continually being shocked that Kelly's went for it on 3rd and 4th and one yard..... from the shotgun.
Here in Alabama, the masturbatorium is out of control with Alabama looking unstoppable and Auburn looking both physical and athletic enough to upset to the Tide.. People are doing LOTS of bitching about Boise here... And I say all that to say this.. I am really worried about Stanford. While Bama was cruising over Duke, Stanford was doing the same thing (at least as bad) to a much better Wake Forest team. What did they score TDs on their first 6, 7 or 8 possessions? They look fast and physical. We'll know more after the game, but right now I am thinking Stanford just might smoke us.
Tom and JO'Co, I hope your fans are more patient that it seems like the fans who now populate the Gator BB are these days. So many of our internet fans just don't know how to be happy. A 14 point win on the road against a SEC team is no longer good enough if it doesn't fit their personal vision. The public BB is almost unusable on game day and the premium board seems to be headed that way. There are a lot of posters who have been around for a long time who just stay away on game day and after a loss. Sign of the times I guess.
Bill....these Gators require a ton of patience and a dose of reality acceptance. This team is not in any way prepared offensively to take on Alabama in Tuscaloosa at the moment. That said...even though I have concerns about every SEC game for Florida including this week's game vs. Kentucky I do think UF has a decent shot at the SEC East title and by the time of a Dec. game in Atlanta a more experienced Gator team just might be...hopefully a little better vs. Alabama than what we are most likely to see in two weeks. In 2000 however a very good UF team had no trouble beating Auburn twice so I suspect the same thing could happen vs. Bama this season. But.....that's why I like the bowl system.
Bill, ND fans are even less patient than UF fans. Gator fans are like fans everywhere, as defined by Lou Holtz. He reportedly said one time, after he'd won the Nat'l Championship, something to the effect that when he first arrived they told him they just wanted him to win games, when he did that, they asked him if he could win them all, when he did that they asked him if he could win by bigger margins. Never satisfied!!
Good article on the Clock issue on the fake FG in OT. Clock The writer makes a good point that the mechanics of the way the officals work on that play are just wrong and need to be changed. Also I think college football needs to follow the NFL and move the Umpire to behind the QB instead of behind the MLB.
Don't really wanna jump in and get myself in trouble. A lot of folks (including that site you posted, Terry) can only see the network play clock. I noticed when I looked at a larger site that I could freeze the network clock at 00 while the scoreboard was at 01. I also noted that I could freeze the scoreboard at 00 before the snap happens...but only just before and it is not nearly as egregious or obvious as it seems if you watch the network clock. Then I found this video which breaks it down...the network clock is a full 1/4 second ahead of the scoreboard clock. The scoreboard clock runs out 1/5 of a second before the snap. That means if you are watching the network clock it runs out almost a half second before the snap and is much more obvious. 1/5 of a second would be tough to catch if you're watching the clock than shift to the play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRup9KsAjHs Please ignore the antagonistic "Deal with it" at the end...That would irritate me too...but I wanted to show the analysis and point out that the network clock made it worse. Maybe they need an audio signal at the expiration of the clock...would that help? Or maybe an electric shock collar on the center that goes off when time expires. Anyhow...I'm glad it wasn't B10 refs.
