    2 things are important for this season.

    1. That we get a little better each week. We had a drive and scored, we had some good defensive series a couple of freshman looked good. If we can keep getting a little better and finish the season on a positive note, where people can say that ND got better as the season wore on, that is very important.

    Because
    2. It will help keep this recruiting class together and it will also help with the 2009 recruiting class. If CW loses the team and in the end we can't really find anything or very little to be positive about it will make it hard to keep all those kids, we'll have a couple of high profile defections. It will also hurt the effort for 2009 as most of the recruits are committed these days before you go to fall camp, so if we have a good year next we won't be able to maximize the impact because so many kids commit early. Not to mention if we finish poorly the negative recruiting will have some bite, they will be telling people Charlie is on his way out or that he wants out and that he's looking to go back to the NFL or something like that.

    Oh yeah...did you see we opened as 21 pt underdogs to Purdue? Has that ever happened in Notre Dame history?

    Sophomore tight end Konrad Reuland (San Juan Capristrano, CA/Mission Viejo H.S.) has decided to leave the University of Notre Dame. The following is a statement from head coach Charlie Weis:

    "After meeting with Konrad Reuland on Sunday, he has decided he will leave the team and withdraw from Notre Dame. I appreciate all Konrad has done for Notre Dame and I wish him nothing but the best."

    O'Connors! Weigh in here. These surfer dudes are having some trouble hanging with the east coast Jersey boyz :wink: Reuland had already been passed on the depth chart by true freshman Mike Ragone from Camden Catholic. What up?

    Reuland was our 4th straight TE and he was behind players his age or younger.<br/>
    <br/>
    Mix in the fact there are more monster TE's coming in....If the kid didn't want to switch positions and help the team.... Cya<br/>

    It's a perfect storm for the media, Charlie has a sort of condescending way about him when he talks to them.....they now have ammo to fire back.

    I posted last year that Charlie needed to STFU, if he'd taken a humble pill along with my advice he'd be better off.

    nope

    <t>I have to disagree Terry.<br/>
    <br/>
    -When Davie stunk it up, they bought into his line of 'Notre Dame can't win because of the academic restrictions.'<br/>
    <br/>
    -When Ty stunk (and sweet Jesus did he stink), they seemingly ignored that he won 'in spite' of those restrictions that were in place on the first year.... they continued to blame Notre Dame.... "Ty's a great man and a great coach, but Notre Dame is too arrogant to join a conference or use the same admission standards as others to realistically expect to win on a permanent basis" was their battle cry.<br/>
    <br/>
    -Charlie SHOULD have perhaps been more humble, but the media would still be attacking... The difference being is that this guy doesn't throw Our Lady's school, or the players, under the bus.<br/>
    <br/>
    And IMHO, that is exactly why Charlie will make it.<br/>
    <br/>
    The haters will write what they write and nothing will stop them. Few go at it by writing off the haters and putting blame squarely on their shoulders. Charlie is doing it right and hopefully he is developing young men who will do the same. At that time, we will have the final pieces to the puzzle.<br/>
    <br/>
    BTW-there are large parts of the media here that are in a frenzy over Saban. This is a guy who has it negotiated in his contract that he will only make 12 public speaking appearances and has REALLY come off as smug. At least Charlie said he believes he gives his team a tactical advantage, Saban doesn't even bother to do that. In fact, he went off today and really have the locals stirred up.</t>

    I also respectfully disagree with Terry. I don't see anything in the way Charlie speaks - other than his Jersey style - that makes him come across as arrogant. If anything, his candor is a refreshing change from the coachspeak of the last two coaches. Different people interpret things differently. I don't have a problem with it.

    Good...

    <t>Luck Konrad we hardly knew ya. With the great kid coming from Ohio and the TE from Cali ND is fine there. <br/>
    What continues to amaze me is watching how slow this OL is and with all the attention paid to this since the season started many that go to the games are watching and have noticed. My guy Duncan who never misses a snap no matter how poorly he plays was exposed yet again Saturday. With the exception of the 80 yard drive they didn't block anyone again.<br/>
    On defense with us trying to stop people with small slow DEs and linebackers that are not only small but slow it was greatly encouraging to see Smith and Neal play and play very well. We will see more of this with Filer and Fleming coming next year.<br/>
    I had my son and his buddy over Saturday and when MSU had the third and 17 I barked out "watch them go right at #22." Bingo he gets beat for 18 but is still on the field. That is the stuff that sends me out of the house.<br/>
    <br/>
    Oh and please lets not forget our punter. That situation is killing the team as well.<br/>
    <br/>
    The good news for me is my wife and I are off to beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado Friday night for a weeks vacation and some cool weather so I won't see Purdue maul us. I need a week off.</t>

    Larry,

    If you get thirsty while you're in Breckenridge and haven't already visited it, Dillon Dam Brewery is only 15 miles away. Best dam beer in the area and good food, too.

    If I'd a cow that gave such milk,
    I'd dress her in the finest silk;
    Feed her up on oats and hay,
    And milk her twenty times a day.

    Ha, ha, ha, you and me,
    Little brown jugs, don't I love thee!

    Are you visiting with friends, Larry? If so, give the wimmens a shopping and lunch day while the boys "find something else to do".
