I did a lot of yelling in the second period. Awful football. Terrible turnovers and a major defensive breakdown. I cut Gray a little slack since he's been our best corner this season. BC receivers couldn't catch a cold. We got to overplay the run and it showed. Like Tim, the best shots were the ones of the crowd. Very funny!
To be honest with you I don't get what George and others are complaining about with regards to Kelly. To me he looks totally undercontrol when he's addressing the players as they come off the field. Sure I get it that he's very animated and gets right up in their faces, but when I look at the players he's got their attention. I liked what he said today with regards to this.
ND <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> I agree. The players need to know they are accountable for their performance. Under Weis if the guys made mistakes they simply walked off the field without anyone saying anything to them. <br/> <br/> When they start doing things the way Kelly wants he will get off their butts.</t>
re: Kelly Lou Holtz was the same way. The teacher IS the example. Sooner or later, every team takes on the character of the head coach who pushes them with his example. Mr. Kelly is doing fine. re: Boston College fans Being able to listen in on the internet feed, I noticed that the mostly Irish crowd there in Boston listens to the Dropkick Murphys during timeouts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-64CaD8GXw With this in mind, it should be remembered, that we have a few real Irishmen on our side as well and I too enjoyed the look of their pathetically sad faces during the game. I couldn't help smiling at their misery as I thought to meself, "The problem with you lads is; you're not Irish enough." (For those of you non-Irish who're keeping score at home, I just hurled at the BC fans the greatest insult that one Irishman can give to another, without mentioning his mother...) ........JO'Co
ND <r>JO'Co,<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> LOL. I know it may seem harsh but thinking back to all the past games back to '93, BC fans got exactly what they deserved <B><s></s>finally<e></e></B> last Sat night in their own house. They've always been terrible. I still remember some of the players like Ron Powlus saying how they spit and cursed the Irish players and threw batteries at them. Yep....they are what their team was Sat night...pathetic losers!</r>
Well I posted it because you have expressed concern that Kelly is yelling at players. Clearly watching him in the lockeroom he is a teacher who loves those guys and is not "yelling" at them in a mean spirited way. BTW: In the past you have posted some things that you have learned from knowing Carlo's family. It was all positive since the new staff took over, so I was suprised that you expressed concern over Kelly's demeanor on the sidelines...do you know something?
Nothing much to report. There was some early tension between the offense and defense as the defense felt that the O was not doing its part. Kelly squashed that. Two unintended consequences of the spread offense up until this point; the deep threat of Floyd has been taken away Kyle Rudolph has been completely neutralized the last two games with 3 catches for 4 yards combined. Here's a blurb from today's Bleacher Report.. "Manti Te’o and Carlo Calabrese are among the best young middle linebackers in the country and are improving each week. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this combination of speed and hitting power in the middle of the Irish defense. Both players had great games again." [/quote]
From the Boston Globe, via Cartier: "The college mentality has been brought back to them," said Spaziani. "How they are playing, how they are organized. You can read between the lines. They are back. Talent has never been the issue at Notre Dame. I've watched them on tape. I have tremendous respect for what they have done. We are going to have our hands full. You can feel the mentality of, 'We are not letting any more games get away.''
ND <t>He's right. If CW was still the HC that game would have gone down to the wire. the team is a long way from good but they definitely have a tougher mentality. <br/> <br/> We really need to win the Pitt game.</t>
Don't worry Tim. I'm going to the Pitt game and I'm undefeated this year. (1-0 thanks to Purdue.) BTW anyone noticed that the 3 teams we lost to are 14-1!!!
Before the season I over estimated how well our offense would play and I figured the defense would be better if for no other reason than we had coaches who would talk to one another and surely we couldn't be worse than we were last year. I saw us going 4-2 to start the season, I thought for sure we'd beat PU, UM, BC, and surely 1 of Pitt, MSU, or Stanford. But UM, MSU and Stanford have all been better than I anticipated, much better. Who would have thought Denard Robinson would be Superman.
Yes. I commented on that in conversations on Sunday. It doesn't make losing any easier, but it puts the losses in perspective.
